In 1904, the Temple Neuf was built in the Jar- din d’Amour, on the western tip of the island. This is where the medieval town’s fairs, markets and mystery plays were held. With its arcades, low roofs and the golden glow of the Jaumont stone, it is one of the locals’ favourite places for a night out. Place Saint-Louis. 7 PORTE DES ALLEMANDS AND CHEMIN DES CORPORATIONS (13th – 15th century) A veritable fortress at the eastern en- trance to Metz, the Porte des Allemands today houses exhibitions. A path laid out along the ramparts allows you to discover the banks of the Seille and Moselle rivers. This walk is the best way to discover the town’s heritage while making the most of the surrounding nature. The Chemin des Corporations takes you back into the past with its rampart towers bearing the names of the trades of yesteryear. Closed on Mondays and every morning until 1pm. The stained-glass windows are modern: they were based on sketches drawn by Jean Cocteau. SAINT THÉRÈSE'S CHURCH (1954) Built according to the plans of the architect Roger-Henri Expert, this church is gloriously en- hanced by the stained- glass windows of the Mo- selle artist Nicolas Untersteller (Grand Prix de Rome 1928). FRAC LORRAINE Housed in a mansion whose origins date back to the 12th century, this space is dedicated to exhibitions and experimentation by new, contemporary talents.
