— Metal Bulletin Zine P.O. Box 1339 Lake Stevens WA 98258 USA Metal Bulletin Zine #1-20: (2006-2009): Wisconsin #21-26: (2009-2010): Texas #27(2010)--now; Washington state All album reviews, news, updates below are by MMB, unless stated otherwise. ** Blackslash Blackslash is a traditional heavy metal band from Germany. Their most recent work dedicated to the art of heavy metal that rocks is called Sinister Lightning, perfect for supporters of metal music with singing. The band writes anthems; they have memorable songs, with a good production. Let’s hope that this band won’t be a secret for much longer! Alec (bass) answers this interview. Greetings! I have heard Sinister Lightning many times and the album sounds better with every listen! Hey, guys! For European bands like us it is always great to hear that metal maniacs from the US like our stuff. I'm wondering if you can hear a little bit of a German accent in our vocals? haha Anyway, things are going great right now. We tour a lot and recently began to write new material for the next album, which is supposed to be released in late 2017. (NOTE: No, I have not noticed a German accent, actually, but I have noticed that the songs rock!) What is the history of your band? If you want to get to know us better, check out our page (see below). It's partially in English. We are Christian and Clemens Haas. The older brother Chris is playing guitar, the younger one is our vocalist. Daniel Hoelderle plays the second guitar, David Hofmeier's on the drums and I, Alec Trojan, play the bass.

We formed in 2007 and never changed our line-up. We're good friends. Where can we hear your music? Is your album available for streaming? How was the recording experience in comparison with your previous album Separate But Equal (2013)? I think that there are some streaming websites like Spotify where you can hear our music, but we don't have to do anything with this. I think our label, Iron Shield Records from Berlin, put our music up there. We like to listen to music on vinyl or CD and we highly suggest to buy our music in physical form to support the underground. If you're from the US there are some small labels from where you can buy our album. We recorded the album in a place near Stuttgart. We booked the studio for nearly four weeks and the result turned out great! Separate But Equal was recorded in our rehearsal room by ourselves, so you can hear a slight change of production quality in the end result.

What led you to forming a band? How did you find the right members and the audience? It was a natural process. We all played our instruments from a very young age and we were all friends. It was supposed to happen. Finding an audience isn't too hard with the rising popularity of NWOTHM (New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal). We highly suggest to check out other great European bands of this genre like: Enforcer, Katana (Sweden); Iron

Curtain, Hitten, Witchtower (Spain); Ruler (Italy); Hürlement (France); Stallion, Skullwinx, Forensick, Iron Kobra and many more (Germany) So far, what type of lyrics have you had? Playing shows mainly in Germany, nobody really gives a flip about lyrics because the audience doesn't understand a single word anyway. It's much more important to write a great hook for the chorus, so people can sing along those few words. We don't want to change the world with words but with music and the feeling you get from listening to a certain kind of music. Tell us about the equipment that your band uses. What is your favorite equipment? Is what we hear on the album real drums or is it sound replacement technology? I use an old bass amp from the 60s. But not because I am looking for a vintage sound, but because when we started the band we were pretty much broke and I got this amp for free haha! About the sound replacement technology for drums, don't even get me started man! That's some bull and takes away the energy only a real performance can preserve. Check out SpectreSoundsStudio on Youtube. This Canadian really knows what he's talking about when he loses his cool about programmed drums (see below). What other news do you have? I think that's all for now! Check out our shop to support us and hopefully see you on the road some day! www.facebook.com/blackslashband www.blackslash-band.de/shop www.blackslash-band.de. NEWS: Murdryck Antologi MMXV Black Lion Productions April 01, 2016

Murdryck (Sweden) says that they started out as an ambient project. Thankfully, that's not what they are now, as demonstrated by this album. The recording shows that the band is traditional and classic-style black metal with a modern production. Some people say that black metal bands have recordings that are of low quality and that you can't even hear the music, but if you are curious about black metal and would like to hear a more professional recording, this work right here would be a good place to begin. The band might give you the impression that it is blasting black metal obsessed with speed, tremolo riffs and throat-tearing shrieking, but there is a bit of melody and the songs are not nonstop blasting. There's some variety, including some well-placed slower brief moments. Fortunately, the album in its entirety is available for streaming. Murdryck is recommended for supporters of black metal in general and also for those listeners seeking to hear some direct, no-nonsense black metal with a better production. www.murdryck.bandcamp.com/album/antologi-mmxv www.facebook.com/murdryck **

NEWS: Girlschool Guilty as Sin release date: November 13th, 2015 label: UDR Music The long-running New Wave of British Heavy Metal band Girlschool has added another work to an already staggering discography of albums, EPs, videos, splits and singles. Formed in the late 70s, the band's discography features a "holy trinity" of three energetic albums: Demolition (1980), Hit and Run (1981) and Screaming Blue Murder (1982). Today the train keeps rolling with the most recent album. Never a band to waste your time, Guilty as Sin features the rocking style for which people know the band.

The songs stay within the 2:30 to 4:00 minute mark. They came here to rock and nothing else. Some of the songs are stompers, while others go in the direction of classic rock, others sound a bit more punk. Regardless, it all sounds like Girlschool. How fitting, then, that the band in November and December of 2015 toured Europe with their longtime friends Saxon and Motorhead. Like other British bands whose roots go back to the 70s, Girlschool has so much experience at what they do, that they make it all sound easy. Of course, it's not.

The band even had the temerity to cover a disco song, "Stayin' Alive," on this album. Don't worry, though, it sounds like Girlschool. No need to panic, it's all good. In short, if you support traditional metal and classic rock, the new album will be a great addition to your collection. Now, the only question is: When will they come to the Seattle area? www.facebook.com/girlschoolband www.girlschool.co.uk ** Iron Kingdom (Surrey, British Columbia) and Fallen Angels (Seattle) will play in Everett this Sunday at Tony V's Garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave, Everett, Washington 98201. Both bands have new albums out. Iron Kingdom Ride for Glory release date: July 30th, 2015 Iron Kingdom plays traditional/classic heavy metal. The music is uptempo/midtempo guitar-centered sound in which the drums and the bass are clearly heard, with singing that goes for the high notes. What is important and what is not important to Iron Kingdom? The things that are not important are: playing fast for speed’s sake, having the most computerized sound. The issues that are important: the songs, the riffs and the singing. Would it be correct to say that Iron Kingdom has rebelled against robotized computer metal? It sure appears that way. Vocally, 70s Judas Priest/Rush are good reference points, in that the band is not shy about high screams in the songs. Sing-along chorus lines are part and parcel of Iron Kingdom. The band carries itself with a sense of purpose and seriousness about the tradition that they uphold. You can hear the devotion in the songs, the effort to make a quality album. Supporters of younger bands that have picked up the flag of classic-style heavy metal should certainly seek this band.

Fallen Angels World in Decay release date: August 4th, 2015 label: Cyberdyne Records Fallen Angels preach the gospel of traditional thrash metal. They got Michael Rosen to produce the album. Rosen is a name that thrashers will recognize due to his work with Death Angel/The Organization, Bonded by Blood, Flotsam and Jetsam, Sadus, Lääz Rockit, Forbidden, Testament, Vio-lence, Vicious Rumors and other bands. The album is aimed at the thrash audience, the people that demand that the guitar players have riffs, hooks and solos. The solos may be shred pieces or they may be melodies. Fallen Angels sounds as excited about these songs as they would like the audience to be. In other words, their enthusiasm is contagious. You can hear the 80s influence, but the album sounds like thrash today, traditional thrash. The band began in 2002. Metal Archives says that the band had a demo in 2004 and another one in 2005, and the first album “Rise from the Ashes” is from 2008. The second album “Engines of Oppression” is from 2010. Let’s hope that metal people in the Seattle and Washington and Pacific Northwest area respond to the band’s new album.

www.facebook.com/ironkingdom www.facebook.com/Fallen-Angels-Thrash-Band-336737539688752/ ** NEWS: Hysterica All In release date: April 23rd, 2015 label: Attitude Recordings Hysterica is a modern heavy metal band from Sweden. The band's origins are traced back to 2005 and the first demo is from 2006. After the usual line-up changes and instability, they played Sweden Rock Festival in 2008 and the debut album Metalwar was released in 2009. From the opening tracks "We Are the Undertakers" (a groove-oriented stomper) and "Halloween" (a headbanging, fists-in-the-air song) and throughout the rest of the album, it's a celebration of the music that they love. Whether it's "Louder," "Metalwar," "Heavy Metal Man" or "Girls Made of Heavy Metal," it's more metal as it goes along, all confidence and strength coming out of the stubborn desire to play the music with which they identify and for which they stand: a little bit of power metal, lots of classic heavy metal, a bit of groove, some melody and the right attitude.

In 2012 The Art of Metal was released and it was another success for the band, further consolidating their sound and their reputation. In fact, it's a common opinion amongst some listeners that the follow-up album was better than the first one. The album features a sharper sound and the songs are just as strong and memorable as the debut, if not more so. Perhaps sensing that too much time was passing without new music, their most recent recording is the 22-minute EP called All In, from which they have made a video for "Lock up Your Son." By this point, Hysterica is a group of veterans and the EP continues the tradition of mixing traditional heavy metal with a modern edge, with a bit of the groove sound. The EP seems to be a hint of where they might be going with the next album. The band continues playing shows and they have announced that they have a new record deal. If you have not heard the band yet, check out the video mentioned above. They also have lots of their music on YouTube. www.facebook.com/Hysterica-official-151288304881413/ www.twitter.com/Hysterica_SWE?lang=en www.hysterica.se ** NEWS: Bestial Deform ...ad Leones release date: March 15th, 2016

label: Satanath Records

Bestial Deform is blasting, brutal death metal from Russia. The band began in 1990 and the first demo is from 1992. This year they have a new album, their fifth album, according to Metal Archives. Besides albums, they have several EPs. Let's cut to the case here: a band with such a history, when they started, have long they have been around, it is expected that the album be a professional, no-nonsense recording for the serious death metal supporters. That is exactly what the album is. The band plays true death metal. Even though the music is extreme and brutal, they focus on writing songs, too. They have riffs that get to the listener, they are metal riffs, the vocals are gruff growling and they have memorable hooks for headbanging and for remembering the songs after the songs stop. The recording is also not too busy: you can hear the instrumentation rather well and it's not too chaotic. If you are looking for true death metal and you also want songs, consider Bestial Deform. You can listen to the complete album at the link below. This band will be a good use of your time. www.satanath.bandcamp.com/album/sat142-bestial-deform-ad-leones-2016 www.facebook.com/BestialDeform **

free metal music

Urðarmáni (Sweden) Njorun release date: January 25th, 2016 label: Blodvite Productions

This is a free/name-your-price recording. It is raw black metal with necro, melodic and melancholic elements. It is definitely for the ardent black metal listeners, as the music stays black metal, with the tremolo guitar work and very caustic, abrasive vocals. For the devoted black metal audiences, this recording is promising and has a lot to offer. Good start. This is the band’s debut. 1.Njorun 09:22 2.Í skugga hrafnsins 05:15 3.A Glimpse of Elation 05:29 total time 20:06 www.urdarmani.bandcamp.com/releases www.facebook.com/urdarmani **
