Message from the President Perry Clarke, President
Dear Fellow Employees;
First, I would like to wish all of you a Happy Holiday Season and all the best in the New Year
for you and your families.
While I was watching television, one evening, an actor made a powerful statement that I would
like to share with you, and I quote;
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of
deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is
marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who error's and comes short again and again; who knows
great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at best, knows in the end the
triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly so that his place shall
never be with those timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat".
As many of you are aware, in 1990, I left the military and commenced my career as a Security Officer in Winnipeg
with Securitas. I was able to move up within the company, but can assure you, that over the years I have failed
many times, while also sharing in the successes with many of my fellow Securitas employees.
As we move into 2016, I would like for you to remember the above quote, and to not hesitate to embrace an
opportunity to succeed, when it presents itself to you as I am also confident, that you can succeed. So in 2016
show your Branch Manager and Area Vice President that you possess what it takes to move up within Securitas.
Again, thank you for all your hard work, dedication and commitment that you continue to display on a daily basis.

Someone You Should Know Trevor Thompson, Area Vice President, Eastern Canada, Shawn Deeley, Branch Manager Eastern Canada
Site Supervisor Jonathan Pickard has proven that he embodies what Securitas Canada stands
for “Integrity, Vigilance and Helpfulness.” Just 22 years old he exhibits an exemplary level of
maturity and a great work ethic. Jonathan has worked as a full time Security Officer at one of
our retail sites in Fredericton, New Brunswick
since February 1st, 2014 and was promoted to
Site Supervisor just over a year ago.
One of Jonathan’s duties this past summer was
“Paw Patrol” which consisted of patrolling the
parking lot, keeping watch for animals locked
inside hot vehicles. Jonathan was there every
shift keeping an eye out for suffering animals, and
found three animals in distress during the August
15th weekend. During this weekend alone, Site
Supervisor Pickard was able to save three animals,
taking great pride and providing a valuable service
to all.
Site Supervisor Pickard continued to show
excellent performance and sprang into action on August 25th, 2015 when a customer at the
mall collapsed. The man was unconscious, not breathing, and had no pulse. Jonathan began
CPR while an off duty police officer stopped to assist him. Staying calm and thinking quickly
Jonathan brought out the defibrillator and started using it on the gentleman in distress. Once
the paramedics arrived, they took over with EMS stating “that if it was not for SS Pickard the
man would not have made it.”
Jonathan has done Securitas and himself much to be proud of so let us take this opportunity to
celebrate him and the excellent leadership he has shown. Thank you Jonathan, wishing you
much continued success!!!
Service Notes
2015 Security Officer of the Year for Performance
Ali Hirse, Greater Toronto and Southern Ontario Area
S/O Ali Hirse joined Securitas in May of 2012 and is
now currently employed full time at one of our
customer sites.
Over the years Ali has progressed from being an on-
call S/O, to a permanent site leader who has built
long-lasting relationships with the client, his tenants,
coworkers, and the Securitas family.
Known at our client site as “a guy you can count on”
for being there for you, even when he isn’t physically
on call. During a terrible Toronto ice storm Ali
coordinated communications for staff to ensure
operations ran smoothly and did not cease. He services a building with multiple tenants, all who enjoy
Ali’s service and know him to be consistently dependable”.
Ali as a guard works proactively, resulting in high customer satisfaction and we at Securitas Canada look
forward to offering Ali the stepping stone he needs in life for continued growth to reach his ultimate
career path of becoming an OPP officer”
By applying our fundamental values of Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness, Ali plays a key role within
Securitas Canada. We really do believe People Make the Difference and on December 9th
, 2015
honoured Ali with the 2015 Security Officer of the Year award for Performance. Congratulations Ali!
2015 Security Officer of the Year for Heroism
Pauline Johnston, Western Canada
S/O Pauline Johnston is currently employed full
time at a site with vulnerable individuals as
clientele. Pauline is known for her exceptional
service and positive attitude for her site and
more importantly with their clients. Pauline has
been observed as being very cordial and inviting
to all clients as they enter the building
acknowledging them with a smile and a “good
morning/good afternoon” without showing any
discrimination towards anyone.
She takes her job very seriously but at the same
time shows just the right amount of empathy and understanding for everyone.
During one of Pauline’s shifts in October she took note that she hadn’t seen an elderly client that usually
comes in daily in a while. Concerned she asked the Alberta support staff to check in on him. The
support staff called the apartment and then did a wellness check. Upon entering they found the elderly
man on the floor of his apartment and he had in fact been there for at least five days. The EMS were
called and he was taken to the hospital…surviving the horrible ordeal, in great part due to Security Officer
Pauline Johnston.
On December 9th
, 2015 Security Officer Pauline Johnston was honoured with the 2015 Security Officer
of the Year award for Heroism. Congratulations Pauline. Truly great work!

Anniversary Recognition Program is
designed to formally recognize
employees on key anniversary
dates. Employee recognition, be it
for number of years of service or for
other reasons, is a crucial
component of employee motivation.
Taking the time to recognize an
employee goes a long way towards
strengthening both employee and
client relationships. Our clients
appreciate the fact that Securitas
understands and demonstrates that
people make the difference!
The Employee Anniversary
Recognition Program is to be
administered locally by each Area
and should include an Employee
anniversary recognition pin
(available for one, three and five-
year anniversaries and every five
years after that), an employee award
certificate and a congratulations
letter to the employee. This
information is all available on the
Knowledge
Library.

What is the Securitas Hotline?
The Securitas Hotline is a secure and
confidential way for employees to report
ethics, safety, and other workplace
concerns.
You can place a call to The Securitas
Hotline at 1-866-528-6556 or file a
report online at www.securitashotline.ca
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Remember, many Securitas employees
work at client facilities and are expected
to observe and report certain types of
situations as part of their job. The
Securitas Hotline is not a substitute for
everyday reporting, but should be used
to report only those conditions or
situations that you were unable to resolve
through local branch management.
What issues should I first take to my
branch management?
Working through your chain of command
is key. Questions pertaining to uniforms,
paycheques, or clarification regarding
Company policy should first be
addressed with your Branch Manager.
However, if you are uncomfortable with
approaching local management or did not
receive a satisfactory response from
them, The Securitas Hotline is an
appropriate option.
What types of concerns should I report
to The Securitas Hotline?
Harassment
Discrimination
Alcohol or drug use
Workplace violence
Policy violations
Pay issues
Health and safety issues
Theft, fraud, or damage to company
property
Ethics violations or any illegal activity
Unfair treatment of any kind
These concerns may arise from
observing the following types of
inappropriate conduct:
An employee exhibiting signs of
violent behaviour.
Someone selling drugs at work.
An employee risking an accident
because of drugs or alcohol use.
A fellow employee taking Company
or client property such as cash,
supplies, inventory or equipment.
Someone vandalizing Company or
client property or equipment.
Yourself or someone else being
treated unfairly or unprofessionally
because of sex, race, national origin,
age, disability, religion or other
protected grounds
A co-worker making a false injury
claim.
What happens when I make a report?
You can either call in a report or submit
one online. When you call, a Securitas
Hotline communications specialist will
answer your call and ask you a series of
questions to understand the nature of
your call. It is important that you provide
information such as the name and
location of your branch office and any
other pertinent information that will assist
the company in researching and resolving
your concern. The communications
specialists will take your information and
prepare a written report that will be
forwarded to Securitas management.
When you make a report online, you are
asked to respond to a series of questions
as well. A report is also generated and
forwarded to Securitas management.
After the report is reviewed, it will be
assigned appropriately to initiate an
inquiry.
Will I have to give you my name?
No, you do not have to give your name if
you do not wish to. The information in
your report will always be confidential.
However, in some cases, management
may need more information in order to
address your concerns, or you might be
encouraged to meet with a management
representative if you were personally
affected by the situation being reported.
But it will always be your decision
whether to identify yourself.
What if I don’t have all the facts?
Securitas wants you to report all concerns
in good faith. We will look into the
information you provide, attempt to verify
it and take appropriate action. If
additional information is needed,
someone will contact you.
How do I check the status of my report
to The Securitas Hotline?
After you submit your report, you will
enter a custom password and be
assigned a unique report key. This
information is exclusive to your report
and is unavailable to Securitas in order to
protect your confidentiality if you chose
to remain anonymous. You can use your
password and report key to contact The
Securitas Hotline either by phone or web
to obtain a response or provide additional
information.

Guidelines to Prevent Workplace Slips, Trips, and Falls
John Coletti, Vice President Human Resources
It’s probably happened to most of us. That
momentary lapse of inattention or distracted by an
activity that ends in a slip, trip or fall. A stumble
down a stairway, a trip over an uneven surface;
slipping on the ice; can lead to a variety of
regrettable events ranging from a simple bruised
shin to an extremely serious injury. The WCB/
WSIB has identified “slips, trips and falls” as one of
the top five causes of workers’ compensation
claims over the last five years.
A ‘slip” occurs when there is too little traction or
friction between the shoe and walking surface. A
“trip” occurs when a person’s foot contacts an
object in their way or drops to a lower level
unexpectedly, causing them to be thrown off-
balance. A trip most often results in a person
falling forward, while a slip most often results in
the person falling backwards. A “fall” occurs when
you are too far off-balance.
There are many situations that may cause slips,
trips, and falls, such as ice, wet spots, grease,
polished floors, loose flooring or carpeting, uneven
walking surfaces, clutter, electrical cords, open
desk drawers and filing cabinets. Loose,
irregular surfaces such as gravel, shifting floor
tiles, and uneven sidewalks, can make it difficult
to maintain your footing. Most slip, trip and fall
incidents are preventable with general
precautions and safety measures.
Injuries from falls may be caused by a variety of
sources. Many of these sources, like curbs,
flaws in parking lots and uneven lawns, are not
of significant height, but have the potential to
cause significant injuries. The best way to
prevent injuries such as these is to be aware of
where you are going while also paying attention
to your walking surfaces.
Some of the Factors Contributing to Slips, Trips
and Falls include:
Wet or Slippery Surfaces
Environmental Conditions
Insufficient or Inadequate Lighting
Changes in Elevation
Housekeeping Issues in Working and
Walking Areas
Especially now that the change of season is
upon us, it is important to keep in mind that no
matter how well the snow and ice are removed
from sidewalks, parking lots and the
surrounding streets, people will invariably
encounter some slippery surfaces when
walking outdoors. Many cold-weather injuries
are the result of falls on ice-covered streets and
sidewalks. Walking on snow or ice is especially
treacherous. Getting around in the changing
weather conditions, calls for planning, caution,
and exercising little common sense to protect
one’s health and safety. In the event of an
injury, regardless how minor it may be, it is
important to report it to your
Supervisor/Manager. It could prevent someone
from experiencing a more serious injury down
the line.
Back Injury Prevention Tips John Coletti, Vice President Human Resources
Preventing a back injury is much easier than
repairing one. Since your back is critically important
to your ability to perform all daily activities including
your job. Most pain arises from using your back
improperly, so learning a few basic rules about
lifting, posture and proper exercises can help keep
your back in good shape. Having strong back and
stomach muscles is important in order to support
the work your back is put through each day. By
doing simple back-toning exercises, you not only
strengthen your back, but can also reduce stress
and improving your posture. The following is a
general list of things to keep in mind when placed in
a situation requiring you to lift an object:
- MAINTAIN GOOD POSTURE
You can prevent many back pains by learning to sit,
stand and lift items correctly. When you sit down,
don’t slouch. Slouching makes the back ligaments,
not the muscles, stretch and hurt, thus putting
pressure on the vertebrae. Learn to stand tall with
your head up and shoulders back.
- PLAN YOUR LIFT
Lifting objects if often a mindless task and
unfortunately many people perform lifts
incorrectly, resulting in unnecessary strain on
their back and surrounding muscles. In order to
lift correctly and reduce strain on your back, it’s
important to plan your lift in advance. This
means to think about the weight of the object
you will be moving and the distance you will be
moving it. Is it bulky? Will you need help? Do
you see any hazards that can be eliminated?
Think about this whenever you do any lifting.
- POSITION YOURSELF CORRECTLY
IN FRONT OF THE LOAD
Once you have planned your lift, the next
important step is to align yourself correctly in
front of the load with your feet straddling the
load, one foot slightly in front of the other for
balance. Slowly squat down by bending your
knees, not your back and stomach. Using both
hands, firmly grab the load and bring it as close
to your body as you can. This will help distribute
the weight of the load over your feet and make
the move easier.
- LIFT WITH YOUR LEGS, NOT
YOUR BACK
Once the load is close to your body, slowly
straighten out your legs until you are standing
upright. Make sure the load isn’t blocking your
vision as you begin to walk slowly to your
destination. If you need to turn to the side, turn
by moving your feet around and not twisting at
your waist.
- GET HELP, IF NEEDED
If the load is too heavy, bulky, or awkward for
you to lift alone, find a friend to help you carry
it. If no one is available, is it possible to break
the load into two smaller loads? Or, can you
locate a cart or dolly to help you move it? Look
for simple solutions to help make the move
easier on you and your back.

With several locations across the Country now experiencing wintery conditions, we want to
introduce our employees to enhancements made to our Securitas Canada Winter Safety
Program through some of the key components in the Scope, Policy Statement and Policy
Objectives.
The Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program is a four page document and also includes
components that speak directly to:
Responsibilities (Securitas Canada Vice President of Human Resources, Securitas
Canada Area Human Resource Managers, Securitas Canada Branch Managers and All
Staff of Securitas Canada)

Incident reporting
In addition to the Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program, the Securitas Canada Cold
Weather Policy will now combine to provide all who work in wintery conditions with two
resources to ensure that we are keeping everyone safe this winter and that tools are in place to
recognize potential hazards which helps eliminate risk of accident or injury.
Both the Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program and the Securitas Canada Cold Weather
Policy are available within all Green On-Site Health & Safety Binders, through download from
the Securitas Canada Knowledge Library and also available upon request from local office
Branch Managers.
Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program Scope:
This policy applies to all employees (including but not limited to full-time, part-time, temporary, fixed term, mobile,
and other classifications of employees) across the Canadian operations.
Policy statement
1.1. The purpose of the Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program is to proactively take all reasonable means
necessary to ensure the health and safety of our staff from any additional risks associated with working during the
winter months and the related elements that accompany the winter season.
1.2. Securitas Canada Branch Managers need to be aware of the particular risks and hazards that our employees
face during the winter months, especially when reviewing Securitas Canada Monthly Health & Safety Site
Inspections, Securitas Canada Hazard Recognition/Step Back Assessments and Joint Health & Safety Committee
meeting minutes as all combine to help produce safe systems of work.
Policy objectives
The objectives of the Securitas Canada Winter Safety Program Policy are to:
Increase staff awareness of safety issues relating to working during the winter months.
Ensure that the risks while working during the winter months are assessed in a systematic and
ongoing way, and that safe systems, equipment and methods of work are put in place to reduce
the risk, so far is reasonably practicable;
Ensure that appropriate training is available to all staff in all areas that equips them to recognize
risk and provide practical advice on safety when working in winter conditions;
Ensure that appropriate support is available to staff who identify hazards/risks as a result of winter
conditions;
Encourage full reporting and recording of all incidents relating to identified hazards/risks with
working in winter conditions;
Eliminate any potential hazards/risks, incidents or potential injuries to staff related to working in
winter conditions;
Ensure monthly communication is scheduled to review, measure and manage the Winter Safety
Program;
Ensure an alert system is in place to communicate throughout each identified
Branch/location/area of potential impending or threatening severe winter weather.
Working throughout the winter months while facing the elements that the season brings with it requires
special consideration – pre-planned working requires the appropriate level of risk assessment to be carried
out.

THE TOP 10 CHANGES TO ISO 9001:2015
The new ISO 9001:2015 Standard was released on September 23 after four years of
development and there are several significant changes to the requirements that wil l
impact our Quality Management System. Below are the top 10 changes:

System Internal Audit scheduled for later this month and with our Annual NQA External
Audit which takes place December 17t h
and December 18th
.

Community Involvement

When it comes to fundraising, the big event each year is the Securitas Canada Annual Cure for Cancer
Ball Hockey Challenge which is held in Toronto, Ontario during the summer months. Together with
Securitas Canada employees and family/friends of Securitas, the event raises both money and
awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society and for Make-A-Wish Foundation. With the event dating
back to 2004, it has grown in both size and popularity but what also has grown over the years is that
many other branch office locations across the country have been creatively finding ways to support
charities in their local area.
One branch office that recently brought employees together to support a local charity is the Securitas
Canada Calgary branch where an unsuspecting Branch Manager spent time behind bars through the
Canadian Cancer Society’s “Jail-N-Bail” event. Alongside Government officials, retail associates,
company executives and many others within the Calgary business scene, Calgary Branch Manager
Stewart Paton helped to raise over $1,700.00 on
behalf of Securitas Canada.
“Two Calgary Police Officers walked into the
Branch and placed him under arrest with him
having had no idea what was going on and quite
panicky through it all”, Paton further explains “that
everyone within his Branch including his wife was
in on it”. Paton was taken “downtown” in a Police
cruiser in handcuffs to Banker’s Hall where his bail
was set at $1,200.00 and was then escorted to his
cell. Anyone wanting to help free Paton from jail
was directed to an online donation site through the
email and social media notifications sent out by
Calgary Branch staff.
Luckily for Paton, Securitas Canada employees, clients, his family and friends all combined to raise his
bail and donate over $1,700.00 to see him set free.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Jail-N-Bail event which was held
on October 7th
raised close to $50,000.00 and was extremely
successful in Canada.
In addition to the Jail-N-Bail event, the Calgary Branch office
recently had several employees donate their time to help
volunteer at the Calgary Food Bank. Food banks and local
businesses supporting Toy and Clothing Drives are great
opportunities to help individuals in need and also allows for great
team building opportunities.
“The best thing I found, especially with the food drive, is that it
brought everyone together. Our Guards, our office staff and our family members…it was really great! We
are all so spread out and by giving back and helping within the community it really allowed everyone to
come together, work as a team, and get to know one another in a different environment outside of the
workplace”, said Paton.

Five-year-old Myles has Simpson-Golabi-
Behmel Syndrome, which is a rare inherited
congenital disorder. Myles will give his
biggest smiles and his high fives, but he
doesn't like to talk much. This trip brought
out the adventurous Myles as he shared in
the trip of a lifetime with his parents and his
sister!
Myles’s magical wish started with a limo
ride to the airport! The whole family flew to
Orlando and stayed at Give Kids the World
Village, which is a special resort just for
wish kids from all around the world. While
there, Myles visited the many waterparks, and visited their park filled with animals. Highlights for Myles including
petting a baby chicken, and a baby crocodile! The crocodile, according to Myles, was “the best!”. Myles also got to
see aquatic life when he went to Sea World. Myles had a huge smile on his face when he remembered watching the
Orca Whale Show with his dad. While at Disney, Myles was also able to meet his favourite Disney characters, Mickey
and Minnie Mouse! He played video games, did lots of swimming, and even got to “eat icecream for breakfast”!
Myles has an amazing attitude and spirit. He is always ready to laugh and have fun. Myles’s two sisters have been
with him throughout his illness and he was so happy to share this adventure with them. For Myles’s family, this was
a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that happened in a place filled with joy, happiness, and hope, where they could truly
leave all their problems behind. Myles’s parents were over-joyed with the trip. None of this would have been
possible without the incredible support of the Securitas Canada team.

Vigilance: A terrorist’s worst enemy Warren Young, National Director of Training
The recent tragic attacks in Paris, France are a powerful reminder that maintaining vigilance, as a Security
Guard and as a private citizen, is more important than ever.
Terrorism is typically the work of extremists who have come to believe that acts of violence are the best
means to achieve their political or ideological goals.
International intelligence agencies believe that many of these extremist groups have operatives located all
over the world, living normal lives within the community, awaiting instructions to initiate terrorist acts.
So what can you do?
As a security guard, or as a private citizen, we need to be vigilant and watch for the following precursor
intelligence-gathering activities:
Surveillance: Are you aware of anyone recording or monitoring activities, taking notes, using cameras,
maps, binoculars or other observation equipment near a key facility?
Deploying Assets: Have you observed abandoned vehicles, stockpiling of suspicious materials, or persons
being deployed near a key facility?
Suspicious Persons: Are you aware of anyone who does not appear to belong in the workplace,
neighbourhood, business establishment, or near a key facility?
Suspicious Questioning: Are you aware of anyone attempting to gain information in person, by phone,
mail, email, or other communication method regarding a key facility or its personnel?
Acquiring Supplies: Are you aware of anyone attempting to improperly acquire explosives, weapons,
ammunition, dangerous chemicals, uniforms, badges, flight manuals, access cards or identification for a key
facility, or to legally obtain items under suspicious circumstances that could be used in a terrorist act?
Dry Runs: Have you observed any behaviour that appears to be preparation for terrorist activity, such as
mapping out routes, playing out scenarios with other people, monitoring key facilities, timing traffic lights or
traffic flow, or other suspicious activities?
Tests of Security: Are you aware of any attempts to penetrate or test physical security or procedures at a
key facility or event?
Recognizing and reporting precursor intelligence-gathering activities can interrupt potential terrorist events,
crimes and other threats before they occur. While on the job, security guards should follow post orders for
reporting suspicious activity, and private citizens should contact the police. Whatever you do, do not keep
it to yourself.
