March 19, 2009 Guest Speaker: Jackie Paton March 21, 2009 Workshop: “Good Neighbor” Stencilscape

As I look outside today, it's winter again, and a Snow Day! March is doing its

job so far, in like a lion! I'm planning to spend the day completing a new Carry

Case Bag or two - a project I just learned at Ildi's workshop this past Satur-

day. Thank you Ildi, and thank you Gail for organizing! If you were not able to

attend, there will be a beautiful selection of these for purchase at the Quilt Show

in May! Before I go any further, I want to thank Carrie and Signe for the awe-

some job they did on the UFO Auction. It was also great to see some of the fin-

ished results of previous auctions during the Show and Tell. Beautiful! Also,

thank you to Signe Kaleel, Pat Lucey, Bev Valle and Jeanne Robertson for their

workshops. Although I couldn't attend, I heard many compliments. It is won-

derful to be associated with our talented group, and to have so many willing to

share their talents. Thanks to all involved!

Hope to see you all at the March meeting -- looking forward to Show and Tell

from the workshops!

Merrimack Valley Quilters Guild Little Quilt Silent Auction

This year our Quilt Show on May 1st & 2nd, will feature a Silent Auction of small quilts. It will be a good time to start your collection from your favorite guild quilters or for easy gift giving! We are accepting miniature & small quilts, wall hangings, table toppers, fiber art or item which are no larger than approx. 24” per side.

Donations may be brought to any meeting or delivered to Maryanne Karp or Lyn Grenier. Items will also be accepted on Thursday prior to the Quilt Show. For inclusion in the program book, please submit this form prior to April 1, 2009; otherwise by the April 16th Guild meeting. MVQ General Meeting Notes, Feb. 19, 2009 1. Maggie Judd, President, opened the meeting. She stated she needs 2 people to work with Gail Wozniak on the nominating committee to find next year's slate of officers. See Maggie at break to volunteer. 2. To volunteer to work on the new website committee, see Maggie. 3. Bev Vallee, raffle quilt travel coordinator, needs volunteers to sit with the quilt and to 'white glove' during the MQX show on April 16, 17, 18, 2009. See Bev at break to sign up and also, see her for extra raffle quilt tickets. 4. Pat Lucey is still collecting items for this year's community project, Neighbors Helping Neighbors. 5. Carrie Zizza, Program Committee, reminded members of the workshop on this Saturday at Plaistow Public Li-brary. Guild members Signe Kaleel, Pat Lucey, Jeanne Robertson and Bev Vallee will be instructing on silk screen-ing, applique, Sashiko and glitter pins. See the website for the supply list. And bring a lunch. Ildi Tary's bag workshop is on Feb. 28th. Consult website for supply list. Carrie also asked that you see her to sign up for the remaining speakers' workshops. 6. Carrie Zizza, UFO auctioneer, instructed members on the procedure for tonight's silent auction segment. 7. Nancy Dempsey reminded members that there are still MVQ tote bags for sale. 8. Marianne Karp ( "Go Steelers !") spoke of the upcoming MVQ Quilt Show. She said there'll be an auction seg-ment benefitting Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Please donate a small quilt, etc. for auction at a $25 minimum bid. Their will be a sign up sheet to help out with this. 50% of the profits from the sales will go to the charity and 50% to the donor. If the auction items don't sell, the donor gets the item back. 9. Shirley Reed and Bev Condon , Quilt Show Chairmen, stated that the middle school will be available for the show. The sign up sheet for volunteers is available tonight. Please include your email address when sign-ing up. Demonstrators are asked to sign up also. Quilt registration forms are available tonight and in the upcoming newsletters. Advertising postcards are available and members are encouraged to hand these out to friends and local businesses, etc. So far there are 10 vendors, out of a maximum of 15 . Angie Cyr asked for volunteers to post posters. Angie also needs ads for the program booklet, She said the ad space is reasonably priced. 10. Maggie Judd said our group is getting one copy ofthe MA. Quilters' book put out by the Lowell Quilt Mu-seum. She needs a volunteer to attend a luncheon at the Museum and pick up the book. 11. There were no guests or new members tonight!!! 12. Show and Tell was held. We obviously weren't too deterred by the power failures and repeated snow storms this winter! 13. Break for snacks and beverages was hosted by Jeanne Elliott. 14. Carrie Zizza and Signe Kaleel then ably presented the UFO Auction and many 'treasures' were happily bid on by members. 15. Door prizes from the previous meeting and this meeting were presented to all the lucky winners. 16. Meeting adjourned, members left to drive home in yet another snowstorm! notes respectfully submitted by acting Secretary, Mary Jo Ray. Any corrections, notify her or Karen Plant, Secretary. -- finito Maggie has chosen a 9” shaded nine patch– mad of Black and whites– NO SOLIDS! There will be four 31/2 “ black squares, three white squares and two half black and white. Pin your name on the block and give to Pat Lucey Some directions will be at the back table.

There still are about 2 seats left on the mystery bus trip scheduled for Saturday, March 28. 8-6. Check your calendars and sign up at the March meeting. $10 fee this year for seat on bus. If you can’t make the meeting and want to sign up email [email protected] AL-WAYS a fun day for all!
