Welcome to our new Faithful Families!
BATON ROUGE, LA 3
GOD BLESS AMERICA!ose of you who frequent our campus are mostly familiar with our sta5; whether or not you know our names, you are at least familiar with our smiling faces. An employee of once the school and now the church, Mr. Alfonso Mangaoil is one of those smiling faces that has an interesting story to tell.
Mr. Al was born in the Isabela region of the Philippines; educated at Far Eastern University, Mangaoil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. AGer completing his education, Mangaoil moved to the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It was while living in Dubai where he met his sweet bride Rowena, also a native of the Philippines. As coincidence would have it, Rowena also moved to Dubai shortly aGer finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the Philippine Normal College and 33 Master’s level units at the University of the Philippines.
While living in Dubai, the Mangaoils started their family with the birth of daughters Mae Anne and Nathania. Although life in Dubai was pleasurable, the Mangaoils longed for more opportunity.
In 2008, Rowena applied and accepted a job as a Kindergarten teacher at Westminster Elementary School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It wasn’t until 2010 that Al and the girls were able to join Rowena in the United States to once again live as a family.
!e Mangaoils enjoy life in Louisiana. !e climate is very similar to the Philippines and most of all they enjoy the culture and the rich Catholic tradition of South Louisiana.
In September of this year, the Mangaoil family will apply for their Green Cards. As you can imagine, this is a very stressful and costly process, however, the Mangaoils are strong in their faith and remain positive of the outcome. If the family is successful in obtaining their Green Cards, they will begin the process of applying for citizenship once they have waited the mandatory 5-year minimum.
!ose who know Mr. Al and his family know that they are proud of their accomplishments and enjoy living the American dream. As we celebrate Independence Day, let us pause and give thanks for those who bravely paved the way for our freedom and for the opportunities that our great country a5ords to natural born citizens as well as those seeking a better life.

OLOM PARISH NEWS
Rrough the generosity of a faithful parishioner, Our Lady of Mercy Parish will now have access to a subscription of Symbolon. Symbolon: Re Catholic Faith Explained opens up the “big picture” of the Catholic faith in a way that helps us know it, live it and articulate it to others. Rrough beautifully crabed teaching and state-of-the-art video, author, speaker and theologian Dr. Edward Sri leads a team of dynamic teachers who provide a clear and comprehensive explanation of the Catholic faith. Mr. Jason Romero, Formation Director at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, uses the lessons in Symbolon as part of the RCIA curriculum that he teaches.
Symbolon is an immersion in the faith that aims at transforming adults on all levels—how they think, how they pray, and how they live—by immersing them in an understanding of the Word of God and the Catholic Faith. Rrough this dynamic and engaging catechesis, Symbolon helps adults of all ages discover or re-discover their Catholic faith—and how to live it—in order for them to become witnessing disciples for the New Evangelization.

ADORATION CHAPEL
SAINT OF THE WEEK
St. Elizabeth of Portugal (1271 - 1336)
FEAST DAY: July 4
Elizabeth is usually depicted in royal garb with a dove or an olive branch. At her birth in 1271, her father, Pedro III, future king of Aragon, was reconciled with his father, James, the reigning monarch. Ris proved to be a portent of things to come. Under the healthful influences surrounding her early years, she quickly learned self-discipline and acquired a taste for spirituality. Rus fortunately prepared, she was able to meet the challenge when, at the age of 12, she was given in marriage to Denis, king of Portugal. She was able to establish for herself a pattern of life conducive to growth in God’s love, not merely through her exercises of piety, including daily Mass, but also through her exercise of charity, by which she was able to befriend and help pilgrims, strangers, the sick, the poor—in a word, all those whose need came to her notice. At the same time she remained devoted to her husband, whose infidelity to her was a scandal to the kingdom.
He, too, was the object of many of her peace endeavors. She long sought peace for him with God, and was finally rewarded when he gave up his life of sin. She repeatedly sought and e\ected peace between the king and their rebellious son, Alfonso, who thought that he was passed over to favor the king’s illegitimate children. She acted as peacemaker in the struggle between Ferdinand, king of Aragon, and his cousin James, who claimed the crown. And finally from Coimbra, where she had retired as a Franciscan tertiary to the monastery of the Poor Clares a]er the death of her husband, she set out and was able to bring about a lasting peace between her son Alfonso, now king of Portugal, and his son-in-law, the king of Castile.
