[email protected])CourseSynopsisThecoursewillexplorethe contemporary discourse around menstruation asakeyentrypointforgender justice in global and local contexts.Therecent shift inpublicdiscoursearoundmenstruation is crucial because efforts to support menstruators across the lifespan notonly confer health benefits but are also part of an enduring project of pursuing genderequality andwomen’s rights. Centering attention onmenstrual health resists pernicioussocial control of women’s bodies and recognizes the body as foundational, urgent andpolitically relevant. This is why menstruation matters: it unites the personal and thepolitical,theintimateandthepublic,thephysiologicalandthesocio-cultural.Thecourseexaminesgenderjusticeandwomen’srightsthroughthelensofmenstruation,discussingquestionsofgenderstereotyping, transnational feminism, andgender identity.
