Gujarat National Law University initiated GLDF (Gujarat Law Dean’s Forum) Meet, a project funded by government of Gujarat. The object of this project is to improve quality of legal education in all law schools and colleges in the state of Gujarat. GNLU selected good law schools in state of Gujarat as a memeber of the project and Navrachana University was one out of twenty five. A Memorandum of understanding was signed between School of business and law, Navrachana University

• Gujarat Law Dean Forum Meet

Dr. Sujatha Patil was invited by GNLU, to participate in Gujarat Law Dean Forum (GLDF) Meet at GNLU on

Meet, a project funded by government of Gujarat. The object of this project is to improve quality of legal

Law faculty, Ms. Stella Joice successfully completed the FDP on E – Content Development for MOOC at

Workshop : Competency based environmental law education

Mrs.Stella Joice and Mrs. Heeranmayee Chandrani, faculties of school of business and law participated in a

workshop organised by GNLU Centre for environmental law, climate change and sustainable development

on 2nd March, 2020. The object of the workshop was :

1) To focus on competency based learning for development of practical and vocational skills

2) Academic skills development;

3) The workshop aimed to open avenues for faculties to exchange ideas and learn new tools and

techniques for competency based environmental law education.

Best Paper

Law Faculty Ms. Stella Joice’s paper “Breaking News and Right to Privacy of Rape Victims in India and USA”

was chosen as the best paper in the National Seminar “Emerging Trends in Legal Sphere” organised by

Faculty of Law, Banashthali Vidyappeth on April 2019. Congratulation to Ms. Stella Joice.

Convocation 2019

The School of Business & Law witnessed the graduation of its first batch of the BBA-LLB program. Ms. Urvi

Sharma had conferred the University gold medal for securing the highest rank in the BBA-LLB examination.

The medal was sponsored by Justice P.B. Majmudar, Retired Judge, Bombay High Court. Justice Majmudar,

himself was present to confer the award.

Students of law@nuv visited GNLU and had an enlightening experience attending the

lecture series organised by CAL GNLU. The session was chaired by Hon'ble Chief Justice of

India (Retd.) Mr. Ranjan Gogoi in presense of Hon'ble CM Shri. Vijay Rupani on " rebuilding

the judiciary : nation building ", the session invoked some valid questions in relation to the

lacunas in the judicial system and the change needed. Another highlight of the visit was the

legal history museum, which was not only informative and insightful but also gave a legal

thought provoking perspective to all the students.

GUEST LECTURES

Sports Law by Adv. Anand Majmudar

A comprehensive guest lecture on Sports Law was organized for all the law students, where Adv. Anand

Majmudar put forward significant insights upon the same.

Students also had the privilege of grasping relevant career prospects with regard to Sports Law.

GST by Adv. Harpinder Sandhu

An interactive session and an informative guest lecture on GST was organized by the School of Business &

Law. Renowned taxation expert, Adv. Harpinder Sandhu addressed the law students with the newly

prescribed developments in Tax Law and resolved queries for the same.

Research Methodology by Dr. Namrata Solanki

A crucial guest lecture in itself, this one was organized taking into consideration the vitality of researching

skills and aptitude of the law students. Dr. Namrata Solanki provided invaluable guidance to the law

students and ensured that they achieve immense clarity regarding the same.

An interactive session with Mr. Ashutosh Rajpathak

An interactive session was conducted by Mr. Ashutosh Rajpathak, Full Time Secretary, District Legal

Services Authority, Vadodara. He addressed the students on various issues relating to Legal Aid and Lok

Adalat. He also invited students to attend a Lok Adalat session in Vadodara.

Lok Adalat

At the behest of the Legal Aid Committee, and on an invitation from the DLSA, several students attended the Lok

Adalat Session at Vadodara, Nyay Mandir. Many students participated as paralegal volunteers.

Opinion writing competition

An opinion writing competition on the topic “One Nation One Language” was organized to spread

awareness about the ideals of the Constitution with special focus on the principles of free speech,

expression whilst generating an opinion. The opinion writing competition garnered a huge response in

which 200 students from all over India submitted their opinions on the topic. The winners of the

competition were:

2. Shahajveer Baweja - Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala

3. Vrinda Garg - Guru Gobindsingh Indraprastha University, Delhi

Lex et Veritas National Law Fest

Students of law@Nuv participated in lex et Veritas national law fest at MSU faculty of law and shined

bright in all the four competitions that were organised at national level with participation of over 14

colleges from all over India.

• Moot court competition:

The winner of the 8th national moot court competition were none other than team Navrachana University

(Anindya, Mahin, Tejas) who bagged cash prize worth Rs. 15,000 !

• 7th National Client counselling competition:

Our team won the 1st Runner up (Shivani kinniwadi and Ayushi Khandelwal) who bagged cash prize worth

Rs. 10,000

• 3rd judgement writing competition:

The 1st runner up was our student of 4th year BBA LLB - Shivani Kinniwadi

(Bagged cash prize worth - 7,500)

Dr. N.N. Jain National Moot court competition, Indore, M.P

A team consisting of Shivani Kinniwadi, Raj Vaghela and Satyam Jaiswal stood on the 10th position

out of 42 teams from all across India in national level moot court competition organised by Prestige

institute of management and research, Department of law.

3rd National moot court competition – Anand law college

A team consisting of Prayrana Singh, Piyush kansal and Trupti pandua secured 11th position out of 21 teams

from all across India in national level moot court competition organised by Anand law college, Anand,

Gujarat.

Article writing competition :

Ms. Ayushi Khandelwal and Ms. Mukti Mistry, students of 4th Year BBA-LLB, submitted their article “Law

Safeguarding the Environment in India” for the 2nd National Essay writing Competition. The article was

accepted and published in the book called “Fortune or Future#Crisis” ISBN 9781701249233.

Ms. Nitya Singh, a student of 2nd Year BBA-LLB, submitted an article on “Strict Law or Better

Implementation”, which was selected for publication in IJLMH National Article Writing Competition.

Khel Mahakumbh Victories

Anindya Bhan a student of 4th year BBA-LLB, participated for the Navrachana Basketball Team at Khel

Mahakumbh and were declared District Level Winners. Congratulations Anindya.

We also Congratulate Isha Mendpara, a 4th year Law student for securing 1st position in 500m and 100m

Speed Skating at Khel Mahakumbh.

Workshop : Common law system – vis a vis Chinese legal system

Students of 1st year BBA LLB s attended a two day workshop on “'common law system vis a vis chinese

legal system” at United World School of Law, Karnavati University, Gandhinagar and secured ‘O’ grade with

successful completion of the workshop.

Legal Aid Committee

Legal Awareness Camp

A Legal Awareness Camp was conducted by the Legal–Aid Committee, Navrachana University at Bhayli Village on

28/03/2017. Shri Mansuri, Secretary to the District Legal Services Authority, Vadodara District & Sessions Court had

presided over the function and had delivered the lecture relating to Land acquisition and the rights of the farmers.

Mega Legal-aid Camp

A Mega Legal-aid Camp was conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, Vadodara at Atladra Village

in which the students of BBA-LLB had participated as volunteers. The students provided legal –aid to the

people who had come there to attend the session and also for legal assistance. Issues related to Aadhar

card and its validity, Election, land-related issues, women and child laws were discussed in the camp. More

than 5000 people had taken advantage of the services offered by the students and other service providers.

IPR Awareness program at NISV

An informative and interactive awareness program was conducted at NISV by students of law@nuv along

with faculty ( Ms. Heeranmayee Chandrani, Shivani kinniwadi – 4th year BBA LLB , Krima Jobalia – 5th year

BBA LLB) about the growing importance of IPR and what a student should know at school level to

understand the essential prospects of trademark, copyrights, patents and geographical indications.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

A one-day workshop was held on 9th Nov, 2019, on Intellectual Property Rights, which consisted of over

100 participants, including students, faculties and industry professionals. The sessions were chaired by five

eminent speakers from industry, academia and bar, namely Dr. Alpesh Pathak, Global IP Head at Intas

(Accord) Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Pujan Vaishnav, Chief (R&D & QC), Ms. Bidisha G. Sengupta, Deputy Manager

(Legal) at GSFC Ltd. Vadodara, Dr. Anandkumar Shindhe, Asst. Professor, Institute of Law, Nirma University

and Mr. Pranit K. Nanavati, Advocate & Partner at Nanavati Associates.

National Seminar on Law and Social transformation in India

The present seminar is an effort to study the innate relationship of law and society. It undertakes to make a serious

enquiry as to how the interface could be better utilized to usher in societal changes that are long overdue. For this

purpose, the seminar contains a series of themes and subthemes dedicated towards understanding the

interrelationship between law and society under different categories and contexts.

The inaugural function of the seminar was attended by Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri, former Judge of Gujarat

High Court and Chief Justice Retired, Odisha High Court and Professor Shantakumar, Director Gujrat National Law

University. The valedictory function was attended by Shri Ashutosh Rajpathak, Full time Secretary, District Legal

Services Authority, Vadodara.

Investiture Ceremony

The year 2019 marked the establishment of Law@NUV – a student body dedicated development of the

students by encouraging them to participate and even manage various functions and programs organised

by or under the aegis of the School of Business and Law.

As a student body, Law@NUV is augmented by three additional committees - the Moot Court Committee,

The Literature and Debate Committee, and The Legal Aid Committee. The committees, in turn, have been

assigned different roles and responsibilities, each of which is unique and particular to the committees’

purpose and goal. The Committees are all run and headed by the students and facilitated in the execution

of their functions by the teachers.

Moot court committee

The Moot Court committee looks after moot court preparation and is also entrusted with organising moot

court competition for the students. The Committee has already organised a Moot Court Training Session

for the students and entrusted with overseeing the moot preparation of students participating in moot

competitions.

Intra-Class Moot Court Competition

Mr. Mahin Dabhoiwala and Mr. Tejas Patel, students of 3rd Year BBA LLB, won the Intraclass Moot court

completion organised by the Law Department. The second place was won by Ms. Jemini Patel and Ms.

Bhumika Khandelwal, students of 2nd Year BBA LLB.

Moot Court training session

A Moot Court Practicing session was organised by the Moot Court Committee to acquaint the students

with the technical and practical aspects of a moot court. The session consisted of simulation exercises, and

other related matters like identifying issues, researching practices, court decorum etc.

Literature and Debate Committee

The Literature and Debate Committee is entrusted with organising, managing and coordinating all

literature related activities amongst the students. The committee has been formed so as to hone the

oratorical and writing skills of the students.

The debate committee has so far organised an intra-class debate, an essay competition and an extempore

for the students.

Debate competition 2019

The Literature & Debate Committee organized a Debate Competition on Saturday, 10th August 2019 - the

first of its kind since Law@NUV was established. This event saw the participation of law students from

various batches of the BBA-LLB program.

In light of the recently trending constitutional decisions pertaining to Jammu & Kashmir, the main subject

of this debate competition was whether Article 370 of the Indian Constitution should be scrapped or not.

The competition commenced at 1:30 PM in Room No. 216, where political enthusiasts, participants, judges,

faculties, committee members, members of the student council and other volunteers marked their

presence.

Eventually, winning teams were announced along with the two best individual performers of the

competition.

The teams Opposition-1 (Shivani Kinniwadi , Jemini , Darsh) were adjudged as the winners.

And the best debaters for the competition were :

Shivani Kinniwadi (4Y BBA-LLB) and Aman Thakkar (FY BBA-LLB)

Debate competition 2020

The literature and debate committee had organised a thought provoking debate competition on

unwrapping CAA : is religion allowed to colour civil right ? Students of law@nuv enthusiastically

participated in this discussion and the winners of the competition were team opposition-1 ( Devyani and

Darshan) and team 2- (Anindya and Pal).

And best debaters for the competition were :

Aman thakkar (FY BBA LLB) and Mahin Dobiowala (TY BBA LLB)

Extempore

As a matter of an excellent opportunity for all the law students to enhance and showcase their

spontaneous speaking skills as well as their political and legal awareness, an extempore event was

organized by the Literature Committee.

Participants were given a topic to speak on by picking up chits. Students discussed comprehensive facets

and facts concerning their respective topics for 5 long minutes.
