CALOUNDRA ORCHID SHOW
The first show of the year did not disappoint. Even without our usual donation of display flowers from John Salway
(on holidays), we still managed a good turnout. Our display, without our trusty Kathy on hand (also on holidays),
came 7th – thank you to Loraine for stepping up.
The flowers were spectacular and competition was fierce. We all have a high bar to meet throughout the year.
Congratulations to all the winners. Results for our Society, Duncan McMartin a 1st and 3rd. Rod Aisthorpe had one
1st, two 2nd’s, one 3rd. Mal Wheeler had two 3rd’s. Joe Mercieca had a 3rd. Peter Henssler OAM had a 3rd.
The overall winners were: Grand Champion – Den.Memoria Tony Kapcelovich x Fr by K&R Gowlett

WONDAI ORCHID SHOW
We never seem to cover the Wondai Orchid Show as it is a small hinterland show, frequented by only a couple of our
members, but when John Salway was most successful this year, it needed a place in the newsletter. He captured Show
Champion and Best Species with his Trich.brathiata. Congratulations. Maybe next year, more members will venture a
little further with their Show attendances.

NAMBOUR ORCHID SOCIETY DIAMOND FESTIVAL OF ORCHIDS
As we are well aware, the huge Diamond Festival of Orchids will soon be upon us. This will be one of the events of
the Coast, with over 15 Orchids suppliers having stalls at the Festival. There will be people from interstate and further
up north as bus loads are booked. That being the case, volunteers are needed urgently. Forms are being circulated, so
be sure to sign up. Whatever little time you can contribute will be appreciated, and the Festival’s success is a success
for us all. Volunteers are needed on doors, ticket sales, raffles, kitchen duty, security and assistance.
Entry to the Festival will be $5, irreguardless of whether you are a Society member or not. Volunteers however, will
pay the $5, and get a weekend ticket that allows them to enter continuously over the course of the Festival, and a free
meal at the end of the set up. So, it is in our best interests to become a volunteer as we will no doubt all be attending
anyway. Refer to Duncan McMartin, or Kathy Howatson for any further details, bearing in mind, Kathy is at present
overseas, but will be back before the Festival. Failing that, please contact Alison Parkes – Secretary for Nambour
Orchid Society on 54417201.
WANTED:
John Thelander is still trying to source an Ionopsis. And he is also trying to track down an Ionocidium Popcorn
‘Haruri’. He has had a bad year with the loss of his wife and a run-in with cancer, so anyone who can help with either a
plant for sale or suggestions on where to find them, please contact him on 0412407534.
