Based on its long-standing commitment to sustainable product development, Kafrit Group has been participating in the global quest for HBCD-free fl ame retardants for use in foamed polystyrene building insulation products. This is as a result of the global ban on HBCD-based fl ame retardants, scheduled to come into effect by the end of August 2015, due to environmental concerns. Reaping the fruits of their endeavors, Kafrit Group has developed a new fl ame retardant masterbatch FR 00R58 PS, based on a new brominated polymeric fl ame retardant, designed for use in extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam insulation applications. The Kafrit Group‘s new HBCD-free masterbatch FR 00R58 PS is especially environmentally friendly, providing innocuous, regulation-compliant fi re safety for XPS thermal insulation foams for buildings, enabling them to meet the increasing demands of the energy effi ciency regulations now being im-posed on the construction industry worldwide. The HBCD-free fl ame retardant masterbatch incorporate heat stabilizer packages, lending them to varying degrees of thermal stability (regular or high) and corrosion resistance, which can be adjusted according to requirements.
