Component designs are becoming more and more complex, the demands for thermoplastic polymer formulations higher and higher. The challenge is an ever increasing desire for more stable and durable polymer formulations. Complex tools should be filled rapidly and friction-free and allow smooth and easy demoulding. Therefore high demands are placed on the flow and cooling properties of the polymer melt.

»LIFOSLIP« is a masterbatch portfolio of Lifocolor, consisting of processing aids and functional additives. It combines flow and mould release agents as well as plastic surface modifiers.

Used as a processing aid, »LIFOSLIP« im-proves fluidity of the melt during processing. It ensures easier filling of the mould and facilitates the demoulding of components. »LIFOSLIP« allows surface modifications of the final product. For example gloss level, surface feel and slip behaviour can be adjust- ed as required and according to the function of the product.

Internal and external lubricants are differenti-ated because of their different effectiveness and polarity of the respective additive and its specific compatibility with the polymer used.

Internal lubricants reduce viscosity and in-crease fluidity of the polymer melt at constant temperatures. This decreases internal friction and protects the polymer melt against over-heating. The increased fluidity of the polymer also improves mould filling.

External lubricants are more or less in-compatible with the polymer matrix and are therefore pushed to the surface of the plastic, creating an invisible and durable lubricating layer. It prevents excessive adhesion to machine parts, which in turn leads to a reduction in friction with other surfaces. Further advantages are the appearance of a durable lubricating effect on the finished part and a reduction in melt fracture and deposits on nozzles during extrusion.
