The Goal: Reconfigure, renovate and transform old administrative offices into a comfortable and inviting third floor residential lounge. The Restoration: The area set aside for the third floor lounge is quite large, but it isn’t a continuous space. Rather, it is situated around several individual apartments, which led to the creation of three intimate areas to work with. King Business Interiors, our project design partners, and Ruscilli Construction, created multiple conversation/living areas in order to maximize the space. The conversation groupings allow for many people to enjoy the lounge at the same time while participating in different activities. A bright, playful color palette was executed throughout the space. Comfortable modern furnishings in shades of blue and green create inviting seating areas. Accents of orange and yellow add even more fun. Blonde wood tables, new, natural wood floors and clean, crisp linen colored walls anchor the space while three bright white bookcases provide ample room for storage, art, and of course books. Contemporary glass sconces and overhead fixtures add warm, bright light to the lounge while colorful artwork featured on the walls adds interest. And while the inviting, comfortable space naturally draws residents to it, a new flat screen TV is a welcome addition too. Since 1986, the YWCA Columbus has provided affordable housing for women in transition. In March of 2015, work began on the YWCA’s extensive $20 million renovation plan to transform the Griswold Building, the YWCA Columbus’ downtown home at 65 S. 4th Street. The Result:The spacious, warm, inviting third fl oor residential lounge is an ideal space for TV watching, group activities, reading and conversation. The new space positively impacts the lives and families of the more than 90 women living in the building’s residences.

I love sitting here with my friends because it is such a cool place. We talk and have fun and it is nice to have somewhere to go where we can be together in the building. - Mary, YWCA Resident
