• Melbreck Technical Recruitment was set up in September 2012 by Owen Humphreys – 10 years’ previous technical recruitment experience – frustrated by not being able to pursue his own ideas in a corporate recruitment environment

• Set up with the idea of offering excellent delivery but with flexibility, open-mindedness and integrity – to give an overall outstanding service and encourage repeat business relationships

• Started with one person in a room with some ideas – saw success quickly - hired consultants with similar experiences and views – consistently grown the business with the same ethics and goals – now have two offices (Lancaster & Reading) and cover the whole of the UK

• Within our first year already had agreed terms and had successfully placed with over 50 clients and over half of our business was repeat business. We had 27 exclusive clients within our first year

• The above has consistently increased and we now have a large, mixed client base of SME’s and larger organisations, and a mixture of UK based clients and global clients

• We are experienced recruiters within Engineering & Manufacturing – but we also have the knowledge, technique and experience to turn our hand to most niche recruitment requirements

There are a lot of recruitment companies out there – and they will all tell you that they are the biggest or best in the world and that you have to use them. So why should you use Melbreck instead?

Like many other agencies, we are specialists, and like many others we have a large database - but how does Melbreck deliver more effectively than other recruiters you may have used?

What really makes Melbreck stand out is something we have already mentioned, our vision and values – but they are not just words, they are a philosophy that runs throughout our business and positively effects everything we do for our clients and candidates.

What we do here isn’t rocket science, so we try and keep it simple.

We undertake a lot of hard work in the background to make sure we can deliver when called upon, and everything we offer has the end goals of finding the right candidates for our clients, finding the right roles for our candidates, and making sure our customer experience is the best available. We don’t waste our own time on activities that don’t help in these aims.

In addition we are here when you need us, however appreciate that you also have other things to do. In the times when you don’t need our services we will not constantly phone you or email you with irrelevant updates or news. We also don’t engage in mass mail outs or e-shots. When you do need us we will be there to work quickly and in a way that you want us to.

We won’t waste any of your time, we’re not arrogant and we won’t try and tell you how to do your own job. What we will do is help you recruit more effectively and more efficiently, finding the people you need to drive your business forward.

At Melbreck we spend all of our time recruiting and speaking to clients and candidates, and as such we have a lot of knowledge around what works in order to successfully recruit within UK Engineering & Manufacturing.

Along with the technical knowledge we have of the markets we recruit within, and on the pulse data and understanding of the job and candidate markets within these areas, the thing we can really help you and add a lot of value with is our experience and knowledge of recruitment practices, processes and techniques.

This doesn’t mean that we have to be pushy or arrogant, but it does mean that we can work with you to truly understand the best way to help you succeed in your individual requirements, and work in partnership with you to get the result you need.

Here are a few tips and guides to what we know works that can help you assess your own recruitment practices;

RatiosOne of the things we can do at Melbreck as recruiters is analyse the large number of placements we have made and come up with the average ratios of what it takes to successfully place a relevant candidate in to an opportunity;

Permanent roles – 5 relevant CVs, 4 interviews – candidates found within 2 weeks, interviews happened within 2 weeks, offer within 35 daysContract roles – 4 relevant CVs, 3 interviews – candidates found within 48 hours, interviews happened within 1 week, offer within 1 week

If you are recruiting and you have seen a lot more CVs or people than this, or it is taking a lot longer than these timescales, it doesn’t mean that there is no answer or that there is nobody out there who can do the role you need doing, but there may be a better way of going about it and it may be time to revisit what you are looking for and how you are going about it

Not just about ratios

Sometimes it takes more candidates to fill a niche or specialist role, or there are more good people available – and sometimes there is only one suitable candidate. Some roles take longer to fill than others, and hiring managers normally have a lot more to do than read CVs or interview.

What matters is open and consistent communication and getting the role filled in the most effective way possible for the individual requirement and business.

How effectively you manage the below factors will make biggest difference to whether you successfully recruit or not;

1. Time2. Flexibility3. Regular, open & honest communication4. Detailed, open job specification conversations at the beginning with all interested parties – you need to fully understand

what you truly want and need before trying to recruit for it5. Setting and managing expectations (both for the hiring manager and for the candidate)
