MEETING NO. 12 CLARENCE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT MARCH 12, 2018 A Regular School Board of Education meeting was held on Monday evening, March 12, 2018 at the Clarence High School Lecture Hall, 9625 Main Street, Clarence, New York. It was moved by Mr. Priore and seconded by Mr. Stock that the Board approve the following: the Financial Reports for January 2018; Schedule of Bills; Check Warrant Report; Annual Budget Hearing Notice; Ledgeview Emergency Driveway Repair; Capital Project Bonding Resolution; Two Clarence High School Clubs and to accept the Auditors report as submitted and recommended.

144. It was moved by Mr. Boglioli and seconded by Mrs. Stock that the Board approve the following Instructional Staff Personnel Changes as submitted and recommended: RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the District’s negotiations team has negotiated a successor tentative agreement to the current collective bargaining agreement between the District and the Clarence Teachers Association for the period July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021 (the “Tentative Agreement”); and WHEREAS, the Clarence Teachers Association has ratified the Tentative Agreement; and WHEREAS, the Superintendent is recommending the Board of Education approve the funds for the implementation of the Tentative Agreement; and WHEREAS, the Board of Education has reviewed the terms of the Tentative Agreement; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby approves the funds for the implementation of the Tentative Agreement; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Board directs the Superintendent of Schools to execute a successor collective bargaining agreement embodying the terms of the Tentative Agreement. Mary Kay Barrett, Clarence Center Special Education teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Barrett earned a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from SUNY College at Buffalo and a master’s degree in Special Education from Mansfield University. Mary Kay began her career teaching in the Southern Tier and Ohio. She joined the Clarence faculty in September 1991 accepting a special education position at Clarence Center. Mary Kay has been at Clarence Center for the duration of her employment and retires after 27 years of service. Deborah Bartolone, CMS Grade 6 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Bartolone earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from SUNY College at Buffalo and began her career teaching in the Depew District. Debbie joined the Clarence faculty in 1990 as a Grade 6 teacher. She initially taught at Clarence Center until the middle school was formed. She has served as a mentor to new teachers and participated in various staff development programs over the years. Mrs. Bartolone retires after 28 years of service. Julia Bastin, CHS Social Studies teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Bastin earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Ohio University, as well as teacher certification and a master’s degree from SUNY College at Buffalo. Julia began employment as a .4 FTE Social Studies teacher in September 1996. The following September she was appointed to a probationary position. Her entire career was spent teaching various levels of Social Studies at the high school. Mrs. Bastin retires after 22 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Karen Bossert, Clarence Center Grade 2 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Bossert earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SUNY College at Buffalo and a Master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY at Buffalo. Karen began in September 1993 as a Regular Substitute Teacher. She served in this capacity for two years until September 1995 when she was appointed to a probationary position. Karen taught in the Primary grades at Clarence Center for the duration of her career. She retires with 25 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Carol Bunce, Sheridan Hill Grade 1 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Bunce earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Bonaventure University and a master’s degree in Reading from SUNY College at Buffalo. Carol joined the Clarence faculty in December 1988 initially as a Gifted and Talented teacher at Harris Hill and Sheridan Hill. In 1992 Mrs. Bunce transitioned to a Grade 1 teaching position at Sheridan Hill

where she has worked the past 26 years. In addition to attending to her teaching duties, Carol also served as a primary grade (K-2) department chair, participated in curriculum development projects and taught summer school over the years. Carol can be described as someone who is totally immersed in her career and has high expectations for her students which results in excellent learning. Mrs. Bunce retires after 30 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Susan Dubill, Clarence Center Grade 4 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Dubill earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in Reading from SUNY College at Buffalo. Susan began teaching reading on a part-time basis in 1986. The following school year she was appointed to a probationary elementary position teaching Grade 2 at Clarence Center. Over the course of her career, Mrs. Dubill has split her time teaching Grade 2 or Grade 4 with a brief period teaching in the Learning Assistance Center at Clarence Center and Sheridan Hill. Over the years she has served as an after school math tutor, taught summer school and this year serves as a Grade 4 department chair. Mrs. Dubill retires after 30 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Elizabeth Dunne, CMS Physical Education teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Ms. Dunne earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from SUNY College at Oswego and a master’s degree in Physical Education from Canisius College. Elizabeth began her teaching career at Clarence in 1978 as a coach and substitute teacher. She continued on a part-time basis until September 1995 when she was appointed to a probationary position. Elizabeth was involved in coaching Boys’ Track, Girls’ Basketball, Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball and swimming. She continues to be involved in middle school activities including Grade 8 co-advisor, Supervisor of Spectators and Grade 6 Intramurals. Ms. Dunne retires with 40 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

William Eicher, CHS Music teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mr. Eicher earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in music conducting from Western Michigan University. After beginning his career in Michigan, Bill joined the high school faculty in September 1996 where he served as the conductor of the wind ensemble and jazz ensemble. Mr. Eicher retires after 22 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Joanne Furlano, CMS Science teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. Mrs. Furlano earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from D’Youville College and a master’s degree in General

Science from SUNY College at Buffalo. Joanne began teaching science at what was then the Junior High School in September 1990. In addition to her teaching duties, Joanne served as an advisor to the Marine Biology Club, All Sciences Club and for the duration of her career as advisor to the Drama/Dance Workshop. Mrs. Furlano retires after 28 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Christopher Gawlak, CMS Music teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mr. Gawlak earned two bachelor’s degrees, a bachelor’s in fine arts, music education and a bachelor of arts in Music as well as a master of music education all from SUNY at Buffalo. Chris began his Clarence career in September 1991 joining the faculty of the middle school as an instrumental music teacher. Over the years, he has been involved in the Stage Band, Stage Crew, Stagecraft as well as marching band. Mr. Gawlak retires after 27 years of service the majority of which were spent at the Junior High/Middle School. Donna Ghodbane, Ledgeview Reading teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Ghodbane earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from the University at Texas, Austin, and a master’s degree in Reading from East Texas State University. Donna began employment with the Clarence Schools in September 1996 on a part-time basis working as a Reading and Special Education teacher at Ledgeview. She continued on a part-time basis for four years until September 2000 when she was appointed to a probationary appointment continuing to teach reading and special education. In 2004 Donna accepted full-time duties teaching reading. Mrs. Ghodbane retires with 22 years of service all at Ledgeview Elementary. Stella Gillick, Clarence Center Special Education teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Gillick earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary & Special Education from Mercyhurst College and a master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY College at Brockport. Mrs. Gillick joined Clarence in September 2001 as a part-time Special Education teacher at Clarence Center. The following year she was appointed to a full-time position being shared between Clarence Center and Ledgeview and after one year remained at Clarence Center on a full-time basis. Stella retires after 17 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Janet Glor, Ledgeview Grade 2 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Glor earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Canisius College and a master’s degree in elementary education from SUNY College at Buffalo.

Janet began as a regular substitute Grade 5 teacher at Clarence Center in October 2002. In September 2004 she was appointed to a probationary position. Janet’s first four years were spent teaching at Clarence Center and in September 2006 she transferred to Ledgeview teaching in Grade 2 for the duration of her time. Mrs. Glor retires after 16 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Sharon Greenauer, CMS Grade 6 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Greenauer earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY College at Buffalo. Sharon began her teaching career as a Grade 4 teacher at Sheridan Hill in 1992. Over the course of her career she taught Grade 4, Grade 5, and in September 2013 she transferred to the middle school to teach Grade 6. While at Sheridan Hill, Sharon was involved as director of the Grade 4 play, taught summer school and served as an after school tutor. Mrs. Greenauer retires after 26 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Virginia Habberfield, Sheridan Hill Library Media Specialist, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Habberfield earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Art Education from SUNY College at Buffalo and a second master’s in Library Science from SUNY at Buffalo. Betsy began her Clarence career in September 1997 as a regular substitute librarian at Sheridan Hill. The following year she was appointed to a probationary position. Mrs. Habberfield served as the librarian at Sheridan Hill for the duration of her employment with the exception of the 2013-14 school year when she was itinerant between Sheridan Hill and Clarence Center. In addition to attending to her duties as the Library Media Specialist, Betsy served as the department chair for librarians and also served as the computer specialist at Sheridan Hill. Mrs. Habberfield retires after 21 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Cheryl Keller, CMS Home and Careers teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Keller earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Home Economics Education from SUNY College at Buffalo. Cheryl began teaching in Clarence in September 1982 as a Regular Substitute Teacher in Home Economics working at the Junior and Senior High Schools. She continued in a Regular Substitute or part-time role for five years until September 1987 when she was appointed to a probationary position. The majority of Mrs. Keller’s career was spent teaching at the high school until June 2013 when budget cuts eliminated the Home and Careers program at the high school and Cheryl transitioned to the middle school for September 2013. Mrs. Keller fully embraced her teaching career and has been very active throughout the years. She served as advisor to the Home & Careers Club, Helping Hands Leadership Club and Hearts of Hope. In addition, Mrs.

Keller served as department chairperson and mentor to new teachers. She also taught Health for a few years while at the high school. In 2012 she was honored as the Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year. There is no greater honor than being recognized by your peers. Mrs. Keller retires after 36 years of service to the Clarence Schools. William Lambert Jr., Harris Hill Music teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mr. Lambert earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Theory from SUNY College at Fredonia and a master’s degree in music education from SUNY at Buffalo. He began teaching at Harris Hill in September 1986. Over the years Bill has remained at Harris Hill with itinerant work at Clarence Center, Ledgeview and the middle school. Mr. Lambert retires after 32 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Robert Neubauer, CHS Social Studies teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mr. Neubauer earned a bachelor’s degree in History at Roberts Wesleyan College and a master’s degree in education from Canisius College. He began his career in September 1973 as a part-time high school Social Studies teacher. The following year he was appointed to a probationary position. In addition to his teaching duties, Bob was involved in various extracurricular activities. Some of the activities included serving as a Grade 11 Advisor, Mock Trial Advisor, Honor Society Assistant Advisor and department chair in the 1990’s. In 2001, Mr. Neubauer became the coach of the rifle team, a position he has held through this past season. He also serves at the advisor to the Rifle Club. Bob retires after 45 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Kathryn Oedbauer, CHS Social Studies teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Oedbauer earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in History from SUNY at Buffalo. She began teaching at the high school in September 1992 as a .4 FTE. In September 1993 Kathryn was appointed to a probationary position. Over the course of her career she has touched many lives and made a difference in students’ success. Kathie retires after 26 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Kevin Starr, CHS English teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mr. Starr earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education and a master’s degree in English from SUNY College at Buffalo. Kevin joined the faculty of Clarence High School in 1989. For the past 29 years he has enriched the lives of students creating a passion and love of learning. In his unassuming way he has reached all students and has a remarkable ability of championing for the under-dog and bringing out the best in the students he teaches. Since 1990, in

addition to his work in the classroom, Mr. Starr has served as advisor to the Student Council and coach of the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball team. Under his guidance the student council has embarked on many community focused events such as the Red Cross Bloodmobile and the annual sleepout for the poor and homeless. The annual sleepout has raised over $500,000 since its inception under Mr. Starr. In 2012, Kevin was inducted into the Western New York Volleyball Hall of Fame for his contribution to the sport of volleyball. In the fall of 2014, Kevin reached a milestone of 400 wins over his career as a volleyball coach. He is only the 4th coach in Western New York history to reach this lofty feat. Mr. Starr retires after 29 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Barbara Steffan, CHS Physical Education teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Miss Steffan earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in physical education from Canisius College. Barbara began teaching in September 1988 at the high school. Over the years she was not only a teacher but also served as a coach for Boys’ Varsity Tennis, various levels of the Girls’ Basketball program and for over 20 years as a coach in the Girls Volleyball program. In recent years she has served as a Supervisor of Spectators. Barb has always taught a rigorous physical education program striving for student success. Miss Steffan retires after 30 years of service to the Clarence Schools. Cynthia Stone, CMS Grade 6 teacher, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. See letter attached. Mrs. Stone earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Hillsdale College in Michigan and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Syracuse University. In 1988 Cindy was appointed to a Grade 4 position at Ledgeview Elementary. She continued teaching at Ledgeview until September 1994 when she transferred to the middle school to teach Grade 6. Her concentration was in the area of Social Studies. Mrs. Stone retires after 30 years of service to the Clarence Schools. approved the following Non-Instructional Staff Personnel Changes as submitted and recommended: RESIGNATIONS

Acceptance of the following non-instructional resignations:

Janet Carberry, bus attendant, resigns effective March 9, 2018.

Gail Henderson, bus driver, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 1, 2018. Mrs. Henderson began employment as a substitute bus driver in September 1990. The following May, Gail was appointed to a regular driver position. She retires after more than 27 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Sharon Teresi, teacher aide, resigns for retirement purposes effective June 30, 2018. Mrs. Teresi began employment with the Clarence Schools in April 1993, when she was appointed to a teacher aide position at Clarence Center Elementary. Sharon has spent her entire time at Clarence Center working in various grade levels as well as staffing the before school cafeteria program for students dropped off prior to the school day. She has been described as very cooperative and well organized. She has a firm, fair and beautiful way of working with students and approaches all job tasks in a conscientious and enthusiastic manner. Sharon retires after more than 25 years of service to the Clarence Schools.

Name: Tracy Connolly Assignment: Teacher Aide (Temporary) – Sheridan Hill Effective: March 27, 2018 – June 30, 2018 Salary: $12.05/hour, 6.5 hours/day

Additional Information: Ms. Connolly earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Medaille College and a master’s degree in Special Education from SUNY College at Buffalo. Tracy brings 20 years of experience having worked at the Cantalician Center, Buffalo Hearing and Speech and Community Action organization of Erie County. She fills a new position working with a special needs student.

Name: Joseph Moronski Assignment: Custodian (Permanent, pending a 26 week probationary period) Effective: March 13, 2018 Salary: $18.02/hour, plus $.70/hour longevity and $.55/hour shift differential 8 hours/day Additional Information: Mr. Moronski has been a Buildings and Grounds employee since October 1999. Joe has held the positions of cleaner, custodian, maintenance mechanic and laborer. He now returns to a title he held from July 2003 through May 2006 and replaces Paul Lagowski who retired.

It was moved by Mr. Priore and seconded by Mr. Stock that the Board approve the Committee on Special Education recommendations as submitted for the meetings of February 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 15, 16, 20, 22, 23, 26, 28, March 1, 5, 6, and 7, 2018. The Board also approved the Committee on Preschool Special Education recommendations as submitted for the meetings of February 16, 28 and March 7, 2018.

A Special Budget Study Session School Board of Education meeting was held on Monday evening, March 26, 2018 at the Clarence High School Lecture Hall, 9625 Main Street, Clarence, New York. Mr. Michael Fuchs, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
