Act 1 – The setup
• First 10 mins• Show the audience who main character is and
why they should care what happens to them• Style/genre of film• Next 20 mins• Show nature of the problem hero has to face• PLOT POINT 1 (important piece of plot that
changes relationships, alters the tone etc)
Act 2 – The confrontation
• Longest act – hero in more and more extreme problems/situations
• They are helpless against the opposing forces• There may be a mid point where they start to
turn things around but not until plot point two will they realise the way to succeed
• PLOT POINT 2 (important piece of plot that changes relationships, alters the tone etc)
Act 3 – The resolution
• The hero wins out (often confronting the opposing forces on their own territory)
