One main image may be used , this therefore allows all the focus and attention to be on the artist.

Direct eye address is used, this is to engage the potential readers of the magazine.

The image will fill a large amount of the cover because the artist is famous, they can be identified with, this aids in selling the magazine, because of their popularity.

A close up shot is usually used, making certain all the attention is on the main focus of the music magazine. The artists themselves.

Masthead

In this case the masthead is Billboard this title is usually aligned in the top left, stretching right across the top of the magazine for the most pleasing aesthetics.

Only if the magazine brand is well known may the picture of the artist obstruct the name of the magazine, however if done correctly it can look affective as if the artist is in front of the magazine which again stands out on the page and helps sell the magazine.

The masthead must be bold and bright, usually block style letters, kept simple.

Colour scheme

3 or 4 main colours maximum must be used to keep the design simple

Just like in this magazine cover primary colours have been used for the title (red, blue and yellow) as they dont contrast or clash with one another

Simple colours like grey and black used for backgrounds so the fore fronting information stands out.

Text: cover lines

Cover lines are usually vague, this is because their purpose is to give the reader small hints as to what may be inside, enticing them to buy so they can read the full story.

5 or 6 cover lines maximum

Always written in block capitals to grab attention

Frame the main image

Never give away the full story

Text

Same font throughout to maintain continuity.

Bold font but usually smaller than main cover lines
