SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE

COMMUNITY OF WORDSPOET.SHE is a Piedmont Triad spoken word and literary organization that seeks to give a space for women & others to tell their story and express themselves through spoken word & creative writing; to build and strengthen the artistic gifts of the women in the community through seminars, classes, and workshops; and to enrich the community with poetry, art, and literacy events, fes-tivals, workshops for both youth and adults.

The group is dedicated to fostering and build-ing strong young writers throughout the Greensboro area. Poet.she believes that encouraging youth to express themselves through writing and spoken word gives them the skills needed for many of life’s challenges. The organiza-tion hosts events statewide.

Poet.she was founded in 2010 by Kelly Rae Williams and Paula Latham.

“Louder Than A Bomb is…a celebration of the talent of our children and our young adults here in our city.”

-Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago

“Writing a poem does not change the world. Learning about new people, and understanding new people, and really feeling inspired by people that are different from you—I would like to say that that’s changing the world.”

Adam Gottlieb, Louder Than a Bomb competitor

Join Poet.she as we invite 12 North Carolina youth teams to compete in the region’s first Louder Than a Bomb (LTAB) poetry festival to be held at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro during April, 2013.

Now in its 12th year, LTAB is a highly anticipated, awe-inspiring celebration of youth voices. The largest youth poetry slam in the world, LTAB uses friendly competition to gather the best and brightest young writers from the Chicago area. The festival creates a safe space that emphasizes community building, education, and youth empowerment. By carrying on the rich tradition of oral storytelling and the spoken word, LTAB directly involves more than 650 youth participants representing over 75 schools and community organizations. Participants share their stories and break stereotypes, challenging themselves and their audiences.

ATTENTIVE YOUTH AUDIENCES

Louder Than a Bomb was a featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) as part of its documentary showcase earlier this year.

The film Louder THan a Bomb premiered in March 2010 at the Cleveland International Film Festival, where it won both the Roxanne T. Mueller Audience Choice Award for Best Film and the Greg Gund Memorial Standing Up Film Competition for films that celebrate social justice and activism. Since then, praise and awards have followed at film festivals all over the United States. Notably, Louder Than a Bomb won audience choice awards at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Philadelphia Film Festival and won Best Documentary Feature at the Austin Film Festival.

Guilford County School system (third largest school district in North Carolina serving more than 71,000 students) has some of the best and the brightest youth in North Carolina. Our county has a large urban and minority youth population, many of whom do not get the opportunity to participate in enrichment programs that have limited availability. As an alternative, students seek a creative activity that is both fun and educational while providing a sense of accomplishment and pride. The Louder Than a Bomb (LTAB) project was designed in response to this need. LTAB exposes high school students and staff to the world of poetry, literature, and spoken word through creative writing techniques, teamwork, project timelines, and other fundamental critical thinking and social skills.

We are trying to show the world the tremendous talent and unity among our communities’ youth reading, writing, and poetry communities. A critical piece of this project is being able to raise awareness of the project, and to immerse the community in a state-wide movement. An aggressive effort to get the word out is invaluable to the success of the project. There are several high profile benefits of sponsorship depending on your level of support that might interest your organization.
