For Immediate Release

MAISON&OBJET ASIA RETURNS IN 2015 WITH A BIGGER SHOW

Singapore, 2 March 2015 - MAISON&OBJET ASIA returns to Singapore for its second edition from 10 to 13

March 2015 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

This second edition will feature an expanded selection of the best of high-end decoration and home fashion by

prestigious brands and designers in the Interior Design and Home Decoration sectors. Featured in the Interior

Design section are leading brands offering the highest quality in decoration and design, ideal for residential,

contract and hospitality projects. Within the Home Decoration section, an eclectic group of the most coveted

and innovative brands in furniture, lighting and decorative accessories will be showcased.

The very same spirit of creativity and sophistication that characterises its Parisian event, and which

distinguished the first Asia edition, will continue to be evident in MAISON&OBJET ASIA 2015. The salon

will bring together the arts of living, gather together players in the sector, decipher new trends, offer new

sources of inspiration, unveil new talents, stimulate the market, promote creativity and provide a springboard

for brand enhancement - all under one roof. The salon offers an exclusive trade-event format where export-

oriented MAISON&OBJET PARIS exhibitors can develop lasting business relationships with the

economically dynamic Asian region, opening the door to new markets. Regional manufacturers and designers

will have the opportunity to leverage on MAISON&OBJET’s well-established international business platform

and reputation.

To reinforce their commitment to the region, the MAISON&OBJET ASIA team embarked on its second pre-

salon tour, the first was in 2013. This time, the team visited the cities of Jakarta, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai and

Beijing promoting MAISON&OBJET ASIA to cultivate a strong Asian visitor base to the salon and to attract

even more Asian brands to showcase their works.

3

“At MAISON&OBJET ASIA, we are committed to being a unique platform that brings together a wide

offering of brands together with a large diversity of visitors. These visitors range from retailers to buyers,

from interior designers to architects, and from property developers to hotel and restaurant owners. In 2014,

we had more than 13,700 visitors with Asian visitors making up 51% and a total of 265 brands with 30% of

them from Asia. For 2015, we are delighted to now have 300 brands from 26 countries, of which 32% are

from Asia. There are 153 brands which are new exhibitors and 47% are exclusive to the MAISON&OBJET

ASIA, not having exhibited in Paris before,” says Philippe Brocart, Managing Director, MAISON&OBJET.

The year 2015 also marks an important milestone for MAISON&OBJET as it celebrates its 20th anniversary in

Paris in January and will launch the first MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS in Miami Beach, which will take

place from 12 to 15 May.

Highlights for 2015 in the Asia edition include the staples which make up the salon’s distinctive traits:

Designer of the Year and Rising Asian Talents, as well as the Interior Design & Lifestyle Summit which will

feature keynote addresses by renowned industry personalities and presentations on market trends.

Designer of the Year 2015

To kick off the second edition, MAISON&OBJET ASIA takes great pleasure in announcing the 2015

essence of Asian culture, Asian roots and with an international approach to their works. Lyndon Neri and

accolades. They exemplify the very qualities we seek. We are delighted to recognise their creative efforts and

congratulate Neri&Hu on being MAISON&OBJET ASIA’S Designer of the Year 2015,” said Mr Philippe

The daily programme for MAISON&OBJET ASIA 2015 Interior Design & Lifestyle Summit can be found in

Annex D and also at http://www.maison-objet.com/en/asia/program/events

To commemorate SG50, a year-long celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence

and the enduring friendship between France and Singapore, MAISON&OBJET ASIA will dedicate a series of

conferences and talks on Friday 13th March to the milestones that led Singapore to establish itself as an

internationally acclaimed nation of design.

Special Projects

For the 2015 show, MAISON&OBJET ASIA will also be presenting a series of special projects that they have

embarked on with selected designers and brands. These projects have been initiated by MAISON&OBJET

ASIA to demonstrate their commitment and strength in connecting together designers and brands with

markets.

One such special project ties in with the SG50 celebrations at the salon, which will see the launch of special

Jubilee editions of Neri&Hu’s Ming Collection and Utility Collection. The Ming Collection – Jubilee Edition

comprises a series of Ming chairs and a Ming coffee table in different shades of green, highlighting

Singapore’s reputation as the greenest city in Asia, while the Utility Collection – Jubilee Edition consists of

six chairs in green and black suede leather. Co-presented by MAISON&OBJET ASIA and STELLAR

WORKS, these two collections will be exclusively shown at the salon.

Another special project at the salon is a new mini collection called Volupté that was designed by Singapore’s

own Chef Janice Wong in collaboration with Luzerne and Swarovski Elements. Dedicated to dessert, Volupté

comprises a series of ornate show plates and dessert platters that are accentuated with crystals that resemble

stars in the sky. The mini collection can be seen at both Luzerne’s stand i15 at the salon, as well as at the press

lounge, and will be plated with Chef Wong’s signature dessert.

7

The third special project is a design installation that examines the concept of “now” and how it is part of a

constant flow of time. Called Fragments of “Now” by TWOTONE, this project is organised by OryZa Design

for MAISON&OBJET ASIA and is made up of a series of mirrors that simultaneously reflect glimpses of

passing time. The installation is located at TWOTONE’s booth at Stand O44.

The Official Champagne for the salon, luxury champagne brand Perrier-Jouët, will be co-presenting a concept

champagne bar with MAISON&OBJET ASIA called Jardin des Délices at Stand O8. Designed by last year’s

Rising Asian Talent Melvin Ong of Desinere together with Tofu Design Studio, Jardin des Délices is a

journey into a whimsical landscape adorned with floating paper clouds and beautiful floral motifs. The

landscape comprises a Perier-Jouët bar placed by the entrance of a surreal cocoon-like installation that

beckons visitors to enter, where they will be greeted by over 200 pleated paper sculptures.

MAISON&OBJET ASIA is organised by SAFI and will be held from 10 to 13 March 2015 at the Marina Bay

Sands Expo and Convention Centre. MAISON&OBJET ASIA 2015 will be part of SINGAPORE DESIGN

WEEK 2015, a week that celebrates the very best in design. SAFI is a subsidiary of Ateliers d’Art de France

ABIE ABDILLAH, INDONESIA

Since his college years, Jakarta-based designer Abie Abdillah, has

been passionate about working with rattan. Though some 80% of the

world’s supply of rattan comes from Indonesia, the popularity of

rattan furniture has been waning.

Abie’s passion goes beyond just rattan as material for his designs.

Through his contemporary furniture designs, he hopes to

rejuvenate interest in rattan as furniture and thus, also revive the

rattan industry in his country.

For his furniture pieces, Abie focuses on rattan's inherent

qualities; strength and flexibility. He combines modular units of

bent pieces into well-ordered shapes. He draws inspiration from

a variety of sources: His Pretzel Bench is based on a bowl full of

the snacks; his Doeloe Lounge Chair is modeled after the Oplet,

a popular car in the Jakarta of the 1970s; and his Madu Lounge

looks to honeycombs.

Abie has a Bachelor in Industrial Design from the Insitut

Teknologi Bandung. He has exhibited his works in his home

country as well as in Germany and Singapore, and speaks

throughout Indonesia about his rattan craft and sustainability.

MONICA TSANG, HONG KONG

20

Monica is sincere, playful and fun-loving. She applies her character and her design philosophy “Live your life

from your heart and be inspired every day” on her collections. She likes dark humor and things that are odd

and strange, but she has a very feminine taste too. The contrast of divergent and unusual sensibilities

fascinates her. The world isn’t black and white.

She likes mixing cultural influences having experienced life living in the UK, Germany, Italy and China.

Everywhere she has lived, studied or worked has profoundly

influenced her design aesthetic. Hong Kong is her base. Berlin

opened her mind and universe. England taught her culture, craft

and self expression. Working in China was a practical lesson in

production and humility. The interaction with different kinds of

people has been a source of her creativity.

A Product and Industrial Design graduate of The Hong Kong

Polytechnic University, Monica made an important contribution

to a well received Siemens VDO project at Germany's

Kunsthochshule Berlin-Weissensee. She then went on to earn

her Masters Degree in Ceramic Design from Staffordshire

University, UK. In addition to a 2006 Red Dot Design Concept

Award and Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award. Her other

career highlights include earning a placement at the prestigious

British ceramics brand, Wedgwood.

In 2013, she launched her own studio in Hong Kong to develop her own collections in addition to

commissions for private and industrial clients. Her designs are sold and exhibited worldwide.

OUTOFSTOCK, SINGAPORE The multi-cultural design collective was born out of a fortuitous

meeting in Stockholm, hence the name Outofstock. Gabriel Tan and

Wendy Chua from Singapore, Gustavo Maggio from Argentina and

Sebastián Alberdi from Spain met at Electrolux Design Lab 2005.

They decided to collaborate in 2006 and what started out as a

creative experiment grew into an integrated practice offering

product, furniture, lighting and spatial experience design.

Operating from Singapore with branch offices in Barcelona and

Buenos Aires, Outofstock works with international clients such as

Ligne Roset (France), Saazs (France), Bolia (Denmark), Industry+

(Singapore/ Japan) and Environment (USA), designing product,

furniture and lighting for their collections. Apart from art direction of

photography and short films, Outofstock also crafts dining

experiences through their restaurant designs.

The Outofstock team was featured in Wallpaper’s Graduate

Directory 2009 and awarded the Elle Decoration Spain’s Young

Designer of the Year 2008. Other accolades include ‘Naked’ chair

with the Furniture Design Open Category Grand Winner in 2009

and ‘Black Forest’ table that was awarded the President’s Design

Award 2010 - Design of The Year. More recently, Outofstock was

POETIC LAB, TAIWAN

Based in London, Poetic Lab design studio was founded

by Taiwanese designers, Hanhsi Chen and Shikai Tseng.

The duo share a core design philosophy; ideologies and

materials to write poetry with objects. Having acquired

very diverse experiences before they decided to work

together, this enabled them to shape products, lighting and

furniture from multiple perspectives.

Shikai Tseng has a Bachelor of Product Design in the

Taiwan Ming-Chuan University, an MA in Industrial

Design from the National Taiwan University of Science

and Technology and an MA in Design Products Course,

Royal College of Art, London.

23

WONMIN PARK, KOREA

Wonmin Park was educated in Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands

and worked with a couple of design companies in the Netherlands before he

established Studio Wonmin Park in 2011, based in Eindhoven.

He has exhibited his works in Korea, the Netherlands, Italy, German and USA.

His awards include the 2014 Wallpaper* Design Awards 2014 as Winner, best

Transparency and 2014 winner of the Global Star Designer, Korea Institute of

Design.

Park’s furniture designs are sculpture-like, that appeal to the visual senses. To

maximize the visual appeal of his pieces, Park uses resin, and the end results

are visual feasts, reminiscent of an abstract painting. His design furniture

demands equal consideration as both practical commodity and fine art.

Park will soon be exhibiting solo shows at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in

Paris and London and he will also be working with a French premium luxury

brand.

24

ZHANG ZHOUJIE, CHINA

Chinese designer Zhang Zhoujie was trained in classical arts in the city

of Ningbo and founded his eponymous digital laboratory in 2010 after

graduating from MA Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins.

When he returned to Shanghai and set out to produce his innovative

designs, every factory and workshop refused him, claiming that what he

wanted to create was impossible. Undeterred, he spent 18 months

learning welding, cutting, polishing and manufacturing. He gained an

intimate understanding of the manufacturing process and created an

inhouse workshop.

Zhang has shown at over 30 exhibitions, including in London and Milan.

In the last three years, he’s acquired prestigious awards including the

ELLE Deco Young Designer of the Year, the IF Design Award China

and the SHDC 50/100 Young Talent of the year.

Zhoujie’s works is based on the concept of ‘Spontaneity’. It pays respect

to the logic of mathematics and objects are generated following the law

of the digital environment. It is designing without anticipation, He

believes that his role to be a designer is ‘Actionless’, to interfere as little

as possible and give space for imagination. In his work, he reveals the

true properties of material and forms, and he blends Chinese traditional

art perspectives, western design methodology, digital engineering and

handmade craftsmanship into a single project.
