Youth Scoop is the new, news website aimed for between 12-16 year olds. The name “Youth Scoop” comes from the fact that it’s aimed towards youths, and the “scoop” part is a more quirky and interesting way of saying news.

The focus of Youth Scoop will be a mixture of soft news and hard news. Its also unisex so the colour scheme would be blue and purple, as they are general, cool colours for both girls and boys.

The website will be updated daily so the teenagers will be kept amused and entertained with all the latest gossip and news.

The Treatment

It would mainly be advertised on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter & in magazines.

1. The article on Fabio Capello is relevant to my news website because football is a very popular subject amongst youths. They are very passionate about supporting their favourite teams. Also because it’s not just aimed towards boys. Girls can enjoy sport too so it’s aimed towards my unisex target audience. The fact that England is a famous football team and Fabio Capello is well known to be their manager, his resignation a few weeks before a major event will be a shock and something interesting to those who follow football. It’s new and recent and will grasp their attention because it’s a famous topic worldwide and youths enjoy reading about celebrities. This is because they tend to aspire to be like them one day. Reading all about their role models may help them lead to living a similar future.

Furthermore, it’s a new and recent headline, which would entice teens to read about it even more because they like to be up to date and fresh with all the latest information.

2. The news story on Whitney Houston’s death can be made relevant to Youth Scoop because she is a worldwide famous celebrity. Though Whitney Houston’s songs may not be your average teens first choice of music, they would still know who she is. It would therefore come as a major surprise knowing she has passed away after creating so many songs and being a worldwide star. It relevant because it’s part of the soft news element of my news website.

3. This ‘soft news’ article about the singer Shakira being attacked by a sea lion would be a relevant news story for Youth Scoop. She’s a celebrity so it would be eye-catching to teens to see someone they know. Not only that, this news story is quite humorous. A funny headline like this will definitely draw in attention because everyone likes to have a laugh, and being able to relate it someone you recognise is even funnier.

4. This article is unusual as you wouldn’t expect such a event to take place, especially since it was on valentines day too. The fact it’s quite an odd story and is on the subject of love will make teenagers between 12-16 interested in the story because they are trying to find young love/boyfriends/girlfriends. It’s also relevant because it’s part of the hard news aspect of the website.

5. The final article about the teenage girl being attacked at a party is a relevant news story for Youth Scoop. It was a teenager who was attacked so it can relate to the target audience because they also like to attend parties and go out so the because they can relate to the teenager (although she is slightly outside the target audience range). It could also fit on Youth Scoop because it’s hard news and therefore backs up the idea of a mixture of news stories on the website.
