Decision

The two double page spreads i found in my NME magazine were both contrasting page spreads, one brighter which stood out more but certain aspects of the other made me favour this one such as the new songs being released, like it was the viewers own prize of buying the magazine as it was a first inside and peak to the new songs being released soon.

In addition the use of the picture came out to me as one was more writing than pictures, because of this I choose the other, because a picture can speak a thousand words to the reader (top one).

About The article of David Bowie revolves around him , the article is written about Bowie in the third person as the producer Tony Visconti gives us an insight to the how the songs were written, when they were and how they had to choose out of 20 songs to be in the album, it also contains information about the bonus CD containing the 4 unheard songs.

Purpose

The double page spread of David’s producer taking about him, is there for a purpose and that is, there is a demand to know about Bowie, and this intrigues the audience.

Letting the audience have an insight to Bowie as a real person, as the producer knows him first hand.

The layout of the double page spread is quite basic, it fills the two pages. What is good about it is, it has red writing to symbolise the importance of certain things such as exclusive song titles and block out text.

What does the big ‘W’ Mean? The drop cap is there in order to draw you into the article.

Columns

The columns are necessary when creating a double page spread because they help the reading be guided to where they need to read as well as making it look neat and ordered.

Image

What really intrigues me about the picture taken is, he is gazing into something we can not see, as if he has his own vision and this is how he is when he works on his songs.

In addition, the corner we see Bowie in, doesn’t look like a traditional music room or studio, it is bare, empty and simply; only having a piano and his thoughts portrays real talent and focus to what he is creating.
