Indianapolis. Just the name conveys images of speed, motion, and drama. And on May 19-23, 2010, Indianapolis will be ground zero and the Collector Car Epicenter of North America, as 1750 vehicles will roll across the Mecum auction block at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The central location of Indianapolis relative to the rest of the U.S. population makes it a natural site to host “The Largest Collector Car Auction in the World”. Mecum’s 23rd Annual Spring Classic will include cars from the Collections of Don Davis, Kurt Carlson, Richard V. Munz, Robert Lozins, William Ockerlund, Ray Skillman, Michael Waldman, Cinema Vehicles Collection, and Scott Bayrach. In addition to these fine Collections, many other world class, investment grade collector cars will be offered for sale, solidifying this epic event. Mecum is also pleased to announce new 2010 Bidder Registration Guidelines, which offer both Preferred and Gold Membership upgrades. I look forward to seeing you at Mecum’s spectacular event at Indianapolis – and remember, don’t forget to join us in Kansas City as we return to Bartle Hall in just a few short weeks!

Mecum Auctions has been specializing in the sale of collector cars for over 23 years, and has become America’s largest Collector Car Auction Company offering nearly 5,000 vehicles per year. With auctions spanning coast to coast, Mecum is able to provide the utmost in customer service while giving both buyers and sellers the greatest of options.

MECUM101SHOOT FOR THE SALE. Garner More on the Block Through Careful Car PhotographyA picture’s worth a thousand words... or maybe dollars if the picture shows the vehicle in it’s best light. Careful attention to details in photographing a car can render great rewards at sale time. A well represented car can better draw the caliber of buyer you think your vehicle deserves. Poorly executed photography can do a great disservice to a valuable collector car when being used to advertise it’s availability at an upcoming auction.

Some simple tips to remember when shooting are:LIGHTING Shoot outdoors on a bright or slightly overcast day if at all possible. Indoor shooting introduces a ton of problems like weird color changes from greenish florescent or yellowish incandescent light bulbs, distracting reflected objects, and boring ugly walls behind the car. Wide open outdoor locations away from tall objects like buildings or trees that might reflect in the paint allow a photo to give full splendor and attention to the car alone. SURFACE Shoot the car on a solid surface like asphalt or concrete. Anything else dirties the tires and usually creates strange color reflections in the chrome and lower body panels. While often tempting, grass is a bad choice.RESOLUTION Shoot all digital photos at the highest resolution your camera offers. The bigger the original photo, the better it can be used in promotions.CROPPING Shoot the WHOLE car. Leave ample room around all edges of the vehicle. Shoot lots of images of the car at many different angles. Be sure all doors and things like hoods are closed and that no one is included in the photo that will not also be included in the sale. SHOOTING Once you know where and how you want to photograph your vehicle, know what shots are required to best promote it for an auction. For a complete list of shots to include, contact the Mecum office or email [email protected] and request the Vehicle Photography Guidelines. M

MEET THE MECUM TEAM

PATTY SWAN has a long relationship with Mecum going back to 1975 when her husband Jack was a business partner with Dana’s father, when Dana Mecum was just 21 years old. As close friends of the family, both Jack and Patty have watched Mecum Auctions sprout from a kitchen table full of ideas, to the powerhouse auction company it is today. Patty started clerking at the auctions back in 1994 when Jack was invited by Dana to attend an auction in Kansas City. Her intention was to relax and enjoy some time away from home, but instead was graciously appointed the block clerk due to a no-show employee. She was given a list of cars, a pencil, and a chair. Patty has since traded in her pencil for a computer and has been the block clerk at almost every auction since. Patty always says, “I have the best job at the auction, and I love every minute of it!” M

JIMMY LANDIS hits the podium with his rhythmic cadence, lighting up the auction atmosphere, and the “Landis show” begins. Jimmy’s interactive style helps create long lasting relationships with both buyers and sellers at our auctions, and allows everyone to feel like they are part of the show. Jimmy has been in the auction business for over 27 years and working with Mecum Auctions since 2001. When asked what he loves most about working with Mecum, Landis replies, “Working with such an outstanding group of buyers and sellers, the quality of cars being offered, and the pleasure of working for Dana Mecum, who works the floor with us and truly understands our job.” M

JOHN “HOLLYWOOD” KRAMAN wears multiple hats at Mecum Auctions. During day to day operations as one of our top listing agents, John assists sellers in consigning vehicles for our upcoming auctions. His encyclopedic knowledge of collector cars aids in both the placement of consignments and also allows him to assist potential buyers with the ability to answer almost any car question that rolls over his desk. Onsite at our auctions John aka “Hollywood”, works as the charismatic color commentator for our live TV show “Mecum Auctions Muscle Cars, and More” on Discovery’s HD Theater, where his knowledge helps to keep the millions of viewers informed and entertained throughout the show. A member of the Mecum team for over 3 years, John has owned his 1964 GTO for 35 years, sings and plays guitar in the classic rock band “Redline 7000”, and enjoys piloting high performance ex-military aircraft in his spare time. MECUM 2X@BACK TO THE 50’s St.Paul Auction Expands to 2 Days - 400 Cars

The annual Mecum St. Paul Auction has been expanded to two days and will feature 400 collector cars up for bid on June 18-19, 2010, at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Held in conjunction with the Minnesota Street Rod Association’s 37th annual “Back to the ‘50s” rod and custom show, Mecum’s St. Paul Auction has moved within the fairgrounds to the larger Cattle Building to allow more enthusiasts to watch and bid on cars crossing the block. “We are excited to offer bidders nearly twice as many classic cars, muscle cars and street rods at this year’s event compared to the 2009 auction,” said President Dana Mecum. “Combining our auction with the Back to the ‘50s event creates a

fun-filled atmosphere with nearly 12,000 street rods, customs and classics on display as well as vendors, arts and crafts, a swap meet and entertainment.” Car collectors and spectators are welcome to attend the Back to the ‘50s event, with tickets available at the door for $10. There is no additional admission charge to attend the Mecum Auction. Gates will open daily at 8 a.m. for previewing of the vehicles to be offered.Auctions begin Friday at 1 p.m and Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information on the MSRA’s Back to the ‘50s event, please go to http://www.MSRA.com/BackToThe50s.htm.
