RoadBarking has close east-west access to London’s transport network via the A13, north-south access via the A117 and national arterial connections via the M25.

The first phase of the ELT has been completed and services are running from Ilford to Dagenham Dock station via Barking town centre. Meadowland is currently served by existing bus route 387 running to Barking town centre, and this will be upgraded to a full ELT route as the population of Barking Riverside grows.

Highway upgrading works to enable the ELT to run to Barking Riverside are currently underway and expected to complete by 2013 (further information available at tfl.gov.uk).

BusThe 24-hour East London Transit (ELT) modern bus service provides a fast, frequent and environmentally friendly connection with the wider transport network including National Rail, London Underground and other local bus services.

Meadowland forms a key residential element in the first phase of the regeneration of the Thames Gateway, which will also deliver homes, jobs, shops, open space, leisure and integrated community facilities, including a neighbourhood centre and schools. The Thames Gateway initiative has to date resulted in a diverse range of investments in the area. The Barking Central scheme of 247 new homes, a Lifelong Learning Centre and a new town square was completed in 2008 and won the European Prize for Urban Public Space, 2010. In 2010 a further 232 homes, a Travelodge Hotel, Tesco Metro, offices, shops and restaurants followed.
