    Disaster Recovery

    A disaster is a sudden catastrophic loss of data Disaster recovery is the process of resuming normal

    business operations as quickly as possible after the

    disaster is over

    Disaster recovery process includes

    -- Executing a written disaster recovery plan

    -- Replacing any damaged hardware

    -- Restoring data-- Testing all hardware and software before resuming

    operations

    Create a disaster recovery plan for performing regularbackup operations

    You must have certain permissions or user rights Only administrators, backup operators, and server

    operator groups are allowed to back up data bydefault on local servers

    You cannot back up your files if there are disk quotarestrictions

    Using the Backup utility, you can Back up files and folders

    Back up System State Data

    Schedule a backup

    Using Volume Shadow copyin Backup Create shadow copy backups of volumes including all open files

    Types of Backup

    Backup types defines what data is backed up Backup types use archive attributes that show the file

    has changed since the last backup

    When a file is modified, the archive attribute is set,

    and when you back up the file, the archive attribute iscleared or reset.

    Backing up data files or System state

    Procedure On the Start menu, point to All programs, prompt

    Accessories, point to system tools and click backup

    On the welcome page of the Backup or Restore

    wizard, click the Advanced Mode link

    In the Backup Utility dialog box, on the Backup tab,

    on the Job menu, click New

    Under C

    lick to select the checkbox for any drive,folder or file, click the box net to each file or folder,

    click the box next to System state

    Procedure

    In the Backup destination box, do one of thefollowing Select File if you to back up files and foders to a file

    Select a tape device

    In the Backup media or file name box If you are backing up files and folders to a file, type the path and file name

    for backup(.bkf) or click Browse

    If you are backing up files and folders to tape, choose the tape you want touse

    To select backup options, on Tools menu, click

    options and then select backup type and log file type

    Click Start Backup and then make changes in BackupJob Information dialog box.
