2) the POSSIBILITY that in 2012 changes of globalmagnitude COULD happen that would bringcatastrophic consequences if we are not prepared

The relationship with 2012 is basic due to the factthat it is the deadline that is established by theMovement for a Change of Consciousness (MCC)

However, you do not need to consider 21/12/2011as a deadline for achieving a change inconsciousnessyou can simply start NOW
