Course Objectives

• To learn fundamental principles of biochemistry • To learn and apply scientific terminology • To understand applications of biochemical technologies and their limitations

Past undergraduate students indicated that this course trained them in biochemistry, but also helped establish effective study techniques and prepared them for future graduate studies and professional careers (see course website for student comments). Format This intensive course will include four lectures and one tutorial per week, for 10 weeks from June 6 – August 12, 2011. There will be weekly homework revision exercises, three examinations (two of which will count toward your grade) and one final examination. MBBE/BIOL402 Course Description An intensive 4-credit lecture course that will cover the fundamental principles of biochemistry. In this informative and rewarding class we will address current issues in medicine and disease, topics in research and advanced biochemical methods and instrumentation. We will refer to Lehninger, a widely respected biochemistry text that is recognized by graduate and medical schools worldwide (5th Edition, Chapter 1-20).
