SERVICE YOU CAN RELY ON SINCE 1930

MBA Pierce members who participate in MBAs’ Group Retrospective

Program (GRIP) and BIAW’s Return on Industrial Insurance (ROII) will receive their distributions in July. MBA Pierce is

excited to celebrate our members receiving a distribution of 455 checks totaling more than $1.4 million.

GRIP will be distributing 242 checks totaling $841,560

ROII / ROII Select will be distributing 213 checks totaling $630,512

Are you a member of MBA Pierce and not participating in Retro? It is not too late to enroll in either program, both GRIP and ROII Select offer quarterly enrollment. The next enrollment deadline is for an October 1 start and applications are being accepted now.

Not even sure what a “Retro” program is and how one can benefit you? If your company performs a construction activity AND currently pays premiums

to Washington’s Labor & Industries for employees’ workers comp insurance, you probably qualify for a Retro program. It is quick and easy to find out – just fill out an inquiry form with your L&I account number, your company information and signature and you will get a summary statement of what your company has paid in premiums and in claims for the past three years as well as a letter letting you know if Retro is a good fit for you.

As a member of MBA Pierce, you have an option of two Retro programs to participate in – MBAs’ GRIP and BIAW’s ROII Select. For more detailed information about either program, please contact Kim Taylor at the MBA Pierce office at [email protected] or 253.272.2112 ext 103.

MORE ABOUT YOUR RETRO CHOICES

GRIP is a joint program operated by MBA Pierce and MBA of King & Snohomish Counties, GRIP offers members access to programs and services that may lower your quarterly L&I payments and experience ratings and earn refunds on your L&I premiums.

• $99 Annual Enrollment Fee• Average 25% Refund of Premium over the last 3 years• 10% of whole refund is distributed to the member’s local Association as a marketing assistance fee

ROII Select is a program operated by BIAW and offers members the knowledge and experience from one of the state’s largest and oldest retro programs with outstanding refund results.

• Annual Enrollment Fee is currently 1.125% of L&I premium or $150, whichever is greater• Average 29% Refund of Premium over the last 3 years• 20% of whole refund is distributed to the member’s local Association (10%) and BIAW (10%) as a marketing assistance fee

Both programs offer

• Claims Assistance with professional claims agents• Safety Program Assistance & Consultations• Education Programs and Classes

TACOMA:The City of Tacoma is seeking applicants to fill three (3) upcoming vacant positions on the Planning Commission, representing

“Public Transportation”, “Development Community”, and “Council District No. 1”. Applicants seeking the “Public Transportation” and the “Development Community” positions should possess expertise or experience in the respective areas, while applicants seeking the “Council District No. 1” position must reside in that district.

Applications are being accepted through July 23, 2014. Please visit this website for the directions to fill out and submit an application: http://www.cityoftacoma.org/government/committees_boards_commissions/.

UNIVERSAL BASE PLAN PROGRAM:Update--Universal Building Permit Application Form and Multi-Jurisdictional Base Plan Approval Process: MBA Pierce has been working with local governments to create 1) a single building permit application form that could be used at local governments throughout our area, and 2) a way for builders to submit a house plan for full review one time, and have other cities or the County accept that review with just a “light” review by their own staff. Jurisdictions participating in this program now include Tacoma, Pierce County, Lakewood, Edgewood and Auburn. An implementation meeting for this program will be conducted for the jurisdictions in July.

GIG HARBOR: Tree Preservation, Landscaping and Screening Code Amendments: Gig Harbor is updating their Tree, Landscaping and Screening

requirements under Chapter 17.78 of their municipal code. Late last year, city staff met with the Planning Commission to discuss a “Green First” program to make major overhauls to the landscaping requirements for residential and commercial properties. Gig Harbor City Staff informed MBA Staff that revisions are not expected to be completed and back before the

Planning Commission until sometime in July. Once finalized, these amendments will begin to be presented to the City Council sometime in September.

PUYALLUP:Puyallup City Staff has been presenting potential regulatory code amendments to the Planning Commission which

included adding a provision to require residential rear yard setback averaging for structures in the rear yard and changes to the Conditional Use Permit Time Extensions. It is expected that a final draft of the amendments will be ready for approval from the Planning Commission sometime in July and will be presented for a public hearing.
