PRELUDE “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!” Miller

WELCOME

*CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.

Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, the God of manna, the God of miracles, the God of mercy. Amen.

Drawn to Christ and seeking God’s abundance, let us confess our sin. Silence is kept for reflection.

God, our provider, Help us. It is hard to believe there is enough to share. We question your ways when they differ from the ways of the world in which we live. We turn to our own understanding rather than trusting in you. We take offense at your teachings and your ways. Turn us again to you. Where else can we turn? Share with us the words of eternal life and feed us for life in the world. Amen.

Beloved people of God: in Jesus, the manna from heaven, you are fed and nourished. By Jesus, the worker of miracles, there is always more than enough. Through Jesus, the bread of life, you are shown God’s mercy: you are forgiven and loved into abundant life. Amen.

*HYMN “Glorify Thy Name” Father, we love you, we worship and adore you, glorify thy name in all the earth; glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth.

Jesus, we love you, we worship and adore you, glorify thy name in all the earth; glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth.

Spirit, we love you, we worship and adore you, glorify thy name in all the earth; glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth.

Father and Son and the Spirit we adore you, Holy Trinity, the Three in One. glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth. Words and music: Donna Adkins, ©1976 Maranatha! Music, admin. by The Copyright Company

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE

INSTRUMENTAL MEDITATION “Blessed Holy Trinity” Eliot

SERMON

*HYMN “God Loved the World” God loved the world so that He gave His only Son the lost to save, that all who would in Him believe should everlasting life receive.

Be of good cheer, for God's own Son forgives all sins that you have done, and justified by Jesus' blood, your baptism grants the highest good.

All glory to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Three in One! To You, O blessed Trinity, be praise now and eternally!

5 *APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH

*SHARING OF THE PEACE Please wave to maintain safe non-contact and social distancing. The peace of the Lord be with you all! And also with you.

*OFFERING PRAYER Jesus, Bread of life, you have set this table with your very self, and called us to the feast of plenty. Gather what has been sown among us, and strengthen us in this meal. Make us to be what we receive here, your body for the life of the world. Amen.

*GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

*PREFACE

*HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

*EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

*LORD’S PRAYER Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.

Postlude “Prelude in E-Flat Major” J.S. Bach Bach wrote a collection of organ works called the Clavierübung (“Keyboard Practice”). Part III was written from 1735 to 1739, and is often called the German Organ Mass, containing chorale preludes and set-tings of sections of the Lutheran mass. This begins with the Prelude in E-Flat Major and ends with a Fugue in the same key. Both the Prelude and Fugue have references to the Trinity and after Bach's life, they have often been played together. We first see the Trinity in the key signature: E-flat has three flats. The prelude is based on three musical themes, each suggesting a Person of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The opening has an over-ture-style, processional feel with a dotted rhythm that might suggest a roy-al procession. This is the “Father” theme. The “Son” is represented by short phrases of staccato chords which descend and then the phrase echoes on a softer setting. This portrays Jesus descending to earth, and the two volume levels indicate His two natures: human and divine. The “Holy Spirit” makes Himself known as a mighty, rushing wind with quickly moving sixteenth notes which really might sound like a swirling wind. These three are heard at different times and the Prelude concludes with God the Father in all His majesty.
