FIRE HYDRANTINSPECTIONS

The Kettering FireDepartment will begininspection of fire hydrantsthroughout the city onMonday May 23, 2016 andwill conclude the annualprocess no later thanAugust 19, 2016.  Hydranttesting will take place between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:00 p.m.Mondays ‐ Fridays.

The Kettering FireDepartment will use theCode Red Community AlertSystem to inform residentswhen hydrants in theirneighborhood will beinspected.  Please take amoment to register below

Back again this year ‐ bicycle helmet fitting. Whilesupplies last, the Safety Section of the City of Ketteringwill be providing free bicycle helmet fittings forchildren ages 5 to 16. One of the most popular events ateach year's block party!

The City of Kettering Fire Department will host twopublic open houses of our new Fire Station 32 located at3484 Far Hills Avenue.  Grab the family and bring yourneighbors on Saturday June 4, from 2:00 ‐ 4:00 PM andon Thursday June 9, from 6:00 ‐ 8:00 PM for tours of thestation, activities and a chance to see inside a real firetruck and ambulance.

During hydrantinspections, water mayappear brown from thedisturbance of mineraldeposits.  While thesedeposits pose no threat tohealth or safety, theycould be alarming and theycould also discolorclothing.  The FireDepartment suggests thatif hydrants are inspectedin your neighborhood, you should check water beforestarting laundry.  If brownwater is observed, simplyrun cold water until itclears.

‐Don't answer the door.

‐Keep your screen doorshut and locked (if youhave one) while talking tothe solicitor.

‐ Ask for identification andsoliciting permit.

‐Never pay with cash.

‐Write checks out to acompany, not anindividual.

‐Get a written receipt withbusiness name, phonenumber and address.

 The City of Kettering is committed to investment in projects aimed at preserving our infrastructure andmeeting the commercial and residential needs of ourcitizens.

Work is already underway on the entire length of StroopRoad from South Dixie Drive to Dorothy Lane. FromSouth Dixie Drive to Shroyer Road the projectimprovements will include milling off approximately 2.5inches of the old asphalt off and replacing with newasphalt along with improving handicap ramps to meetcurrent standards at the intersections.

The East Stroop Road portion of the project will involvethe construction of a 10 feet wide sidewalk fromGlengarry Drive to Wilmington Pike plus asphaltresurfacing along East Stroop from Dorothy Lane toShroyer Road. Both portions of the Stroop Road projectwill be complete by mid‐summer.

We have several other repaving projects underway orplanned for this spring and summer including LincolnPark Boulevard from Far Hills to Ackerman, Delco ParkDrive, Gateway Circle and numerous residentialneighborhoods. We will also focus on curb, driveapproach and sidewalk repair in select neighborhoods.To learn more about road construction projects clickhere.

In the coming weeks construction will begin on thePrugh Woods residential development located at theintersection of Dorothy Lane and Prentice Drive nearthe Kettering Recreation Complex.  The initial work willinvolve the clearing of the property to allow forconstruction of the access road and preparation ofresidential lots for home construction.
