CITY IDENTIFIES POTENTIAL LOCATION FORFIRE STATION IN WEST KETTERING
For several years the City of Kettering has exploredpotential locations for a new fire station on the westside of the community.
On Tuesday, April 12, 2016 City Council unanimouslyapproved the purchase of .5 acres of property fromHeapy Engineering on Dorothy Lane. This land combinedwith the city owned parcel at 1300 W. Dorothy Lane hasbeen identified as the potential site for the new firestation. The next steps in the process will be acommunity meeting, the rezoning of the parcel anddesign of the station to suit the location.
The City of Kettering will construct a total of four newstate‐of‐the‐art fire stations in coming years. For moreinformation click here.

Kettering Safety Village isa transportation and lifesafety mini‐camp forchildren ages 5 or 6 whoare entering kindergartenin August 2016. SafetyVillage is offered eachsummer by the City ofKettering's EngineeringDepartment Safety Sectionin collaboration withKettering City Schools andDor‐Wood Optimist Club.

The City of Kettering Mayor's Award for VolunteerService honors outstanding volunteers who are makingvaluable contributions to the community throughvolunteer service in a wide variety of categories. Incelebration of National Volunteer Week, Vice‐Mayor RobScott presented this award to Andrew Waker, and Billand Marynel Bradley at the April 12, 2016 City Councilmeeting. Spring Leaf Collection
The City of Kettering will make one final passthrough the entire city this week April 18‐22 tocollect any leaves remaining from fall.Please rake any remaining leaves to the edge ofyour yard near the curb, but not in the street.Please make sure to only place leaves in thesepiles. All other yard debris should be placed inWaste Management toters or taken to the YardDebris Center for disposal.

Residential yard debris may now be placed in yourWaste Management toter for disposal on yourregular collection day. Yard debris must fit insideyour toter, Waste Management will not collectyard debris bags placed next to toters.If the yard debris will not fit in your toter you maybring it to the City of Kettering Yard Debris Center

Brush, limbs and trimmings should be cutdown to be no larger than 6 feet in lengthand 4 inches in diameter. Items exceedingthese specifications will be refused.Our Yard Debris Center cannot accept: GrassClippings, Thatch, Sod, Dirt, Rocks, Concreteor Building and Construction Materials.
Residential Compost and Mulch
The leaves that we collect in the fall are taken toour "leaf farm" where we recycle the material tomake leaf compost. In the spring, when the leaveshave formed a rich compost, it is made availableto the residents of Kettering for free! Compost andmulch material may be picked up from the bins atIndian Riffle Park on Stroop Road. Bring proof of Kettering residency with you. Volunteers will be on hand to spot check vehiclesto make sure those taking compost and mulch liveor work in Kettering.Please note that the City of Kettering does notload or deliver compost or mulch to residents.

EMERGENCY ALERTS
The City of Kettering is committed to investment inseveral major roadway construction projects aimed atpreserving our infrastructure each year.
Work is already underway on the entire length of StroopRoad from South Dixie Drive to Dorothy Lane. FromSouth Dixie Drive to Shroyer Road the projectimprovements will include milling off approximately 2.5inches of the old asphalt off and replacing with newasphalt along with improving handicap ramps to meetcurrent standards at the intersections. The East StroopRoad portion of the project will involve the constructionof a 10 feet wide sidewalk from Glengarry Drive toWilmington Pike plus asphalt resurfacing along EastStroop from Dorothy Lane to Shroyer Road. Bothportions of the Stroop Road project will be complete bymid‐summer.
We have several other repaving projects underway orplanned for this spring and summer including LincolnPark Boulevard from Far Hills to Ackerman, Delco ParkDrive, Gateway Circle and numerous residentialneighborhoods. We will also focus on curb, driveapproach and sidewalk repair in select neighborhoods.To learn more click here.

The Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural ArtsDepartment has the perfect summer activities for yourchild, from traditional day camps to specialty art,sports, and environmental camps.
Choose from one‐day drop in camps, full and half daycamps for children ages 3 through 18. Our summercamps are led by experienced staff and are held in asafe, secure environment.
To meet the demands of family schedules, many of thecamps have extended care (for an additional fee) from 7to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Camps take place at theKettering Recreation Complex, Rosewood Arts Centreand the Habitat Environmental Center.
