Dear MomThis is a letter to all the mothers out there from those of us who no longer have our mothers with us

We would like to borrow your hearts for just a moment so we can, in our selfishness, make amends

for some of the things we neglected to say to our own mothers.

We would like to thank you for all the sacrifices you’ve made in your life so that ours would be fille

with security and joy.

Thank you for the endless nights you spent wondering if you’ve done enough. Asking yourself over

and over again if the choices you’ve made are the right ones.

Thank you for the hugs and kisses especially those we really didn’t deserve but needed anyway.

Thank you for all the times you told us, while rubbing our fever soaked foreheads, “mommy will

make it better.” You always did!

Thank you for loving us enough to instill discipline in our lives, even though it broke your heart

o do so. Now that we’re older we understand what, “this hurts me more that it does you.” really

means.

Thank you for, despite being taken for granted, humbly taking on the task of maid, cook, nurse,

eacher, mentor and friend often times in the face of ungratefulness.

Thank you for placing our need above your own without exception or regret.

Above all thank you for knowing we love you even when we’re mad and don’t realize it, try to den

t, or just simply don’t show it.

This list could continue forever and not come close to being complete. Motherhood is one of those

obs that never end. So thanks again for not only being a good mother to your own children, but for

also allow us, whose mothers are no longer with us, the opportunity to remember how nice it is to

have a mom to tell our feeling to.

Happy Mothers Da

TESTIMONIALS

Thank you Jesus, Hi my name is Greg Mann. I entered the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Miss

“Newlife” recovery program on July 17, 2001 and I became a staff member on July 17, 2002. Istill here and remain clean and sober thanks to the power of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I was addicted to Drugs; alcohol, cocaine, heroin, tobacco, pot, pills and many other drugs. I

a hard time keeping a job, I neglected my rent, I spent all my money on drugs and women, I ra

talked to, or even, seen my children. I was living in my car and bumming around from hous

house. Then I lost my car.

I dabbled in religions like Hinduism and Buddhism and

thought they were ok. Thefi

rst time I met Lee Cage,my son’s adopted dad, he gave me a bible and told me

Jesus is the way. For years I pondered whether or not

Jesus was really the way for me. In the mean time I

continued to abuse drugs. Then one day I decided to

give Jesus a chance.

At the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission I attended

morning bible study classes taught by brother Don. In

the evenings I would attend the daily chapel services

offered everyday of the week here at the Mission.

“IT WORKED!” I surrendered to God and his word absorbed into my heart. I finally underst

what God was trying to tell me. I let him take the lead and he has lead me into a personal relations

with him Jesus. He has restored my relationships with my children and grandchildren. I h

recently become engaged and have purchased a condo. He has put my life firmly on the right tra

I still have problems but they are no longer with drugs and alcohol. My problems are the every

problems of life and I trust the Lord to lead me to the solutions.

Praying, Praying, Praying, giving thanks to Jesus and studying his word makes life so much m

worth while even with it’s challenges. I know God is there all the time.

But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentlen

and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

I first became homeless back in 1995. Before I had a job and my own place to live, I was

living the “good life.” I was drinking, smoking pot and crack, happy as a clam at high tide.Till the day I lost my apartment, girlfriend, and job.

I never thought my life could change so drastically in the blink of an eye. I no longer had

a place to stay and I don’t have an income because I lost my job due to alcohol. This was

way different than what I was use to. I didn’t like it.

I blamed my girlfriend for being in the position I

was in because she left me. I started staying at

the Brother Francis Shelter and bounced back andforth from there to the Anchorage Gospel Rescue

Mission. I did this from 1995 till 2002.

On two separate occasions I was working and

had an apartment but they didn’t last long. The

drinking and drugs, once again, caused me to

lose everything I had gained. I finally realized it

wasn’t my girlfriends’ fault that I was homeless. It

was mine! I was addicted to alcohol and drugs.

I finally asked Jesus into my life and in August of 2002 I joined the “Newlife” Recovery

program at the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission. I graduated the program in 2003 and

was blessed by the Lord by being offered the opportunity to stay with the mission as a

member of the staff.

I tried for years to change my life but was unable to achieve success on my own. It was

only after I asked Jesus Christ to help me that the door of success was opened for me by his

hand. Through his grace and his grace alone am I allowed to continue to grow in his love

and work here at the Rescue Mission. He is the reason I’m here today. “Ask and you will

receive” I am living testimony to the power of those words.

Assigning Blame

Spiritual Needs Are Always Priority! DIRECTOR’S

DESK

A Christian Gospel Rescue Mission is just that! Rescue a person from where they are and

bring them to restoration. We take a person as they are and meet their most critical immediate

need—usually their first need is a meal. After that need has been met there is a time forregistration. At this time we may find out other needs in their life. We do everything we can

to make them comfortable and feel at ease. Coming to a Rescue Mission can be a traumatic

experience, especially if you are down on your luck, cold, hungry and feel all alone. But that

is what we are here for—to offer help in their time of need.

After we have assisted with all of these problems, we address the spiritual problems. This

is by no means secondary but we have found if we provide for a person’s physical needs first,

then it is much easier to find out what spiritual needs they may have. If a person is hungry

or emotionally upset it is hard to reason with them about spiritual problems. That is why

we take the approach we do. The spiritual needs of our clients or guests are a prioritywith all of the staff, especially if the person is not a Christian. We provide all of the above

services and more so that we will be able to talk to them about spiritual needs. Then, we help

them with other things in their life that is troubling them by counseling, talking, listening

and then referring them to our Chaplain for further counseling. We may even refer them to

a local Pastor for more advice or counseling. But we strongly believe there are no problems

that cannot be solved by prayer and yielding it to the Lord.

I have to admit we are guilty at times of being so busy trying to provide for the physical

needs of the people we serve, that perhaps, we are negligent in meeting their spiritual needs

immediately. However, I have reminded the staff of our Mission policy and our Missiongoal. And that is being a witness for Christ through word and deed. As a result we have

dedicated ourselves anew to fulfilling our responsibility of putting first things first and that

is the spiritual concerns of those that come to us for help.

We want people to know that we care about them spiritually by providing a warm Christian

environment while they are here with us. Without a doubt we want our clients (guests) to

know we are concerned for their spiritual well being.Proverbs 11:30, The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

“Living Memorials” and “Honorariums” are a very

good way to honor the memory of loved ones and

friends. Giving a gift to the Mission in the name of

that person is a very personal, lasting expression of

your love. Your thoughtful remembrance can hav

eternal value when invested in the lives of people

These gifts become a part of the general operating

budget of the Mission. This allows us to continue

to do the things we do. By giving a person a mealshelter, clean clothing, Chapel service and persona

witness by our staff. That may be all that is needed

to bring a person to the saving knowledge and

acceptance of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

We will notify the family of the person memorialized

that a gift has been given to the Mission in the name

of the person you specify but not the amount of the

gift.

The person memorialized and the person giving the

memorial gift will be listed in the Newsletter.
