Year 6 students from Nambucca Public, Frank Partridge VC Public and
St Patricks Macksville attended two orientation days on the 10th and 17th
May. The first day the students were introduced to experiments that would
help them solve a murder mystery then on the second day they were shown a
murder scene set up at the high school. There had obviously been a scuffle at
the murder scene and, using their new found skills, they had to analyse the
evidence and work out “who dunnit”.
After assessing the crime scene the students then put their new skills into
action to find out who killed Myra Mains. Using chromatography, powder
analysis and “tinkle testing” the culprit was eventually identified.
These orientation days are organised to introduce the Year 6 students to high
school and to familiarise themselves with their new school for 2018. They
also get a feel for what to expect when they begin the next phase of their
education.
Thank you to Ms Louise Lockyer
and Mrs Melissa Waters who
organised and ran the days making
it fun and engaging for the
students. A big thank you also to
Year 9 helpers - Dakirra Williams,
Thomas Robertson, Isabella
Johnston and Amber Jenkins.
Principal’s Report Dear Parents and Community
School funding has been in the national news with the release of the recent federal budget and the
federal government’s creation of GONSKI 2.0. There is no doubt that the implementation of GONSKI
funding through the RAM funding model by the NSW government has had a huge positive impact on
Nambucca Heads High School.
The development of literacy and numeracy skills is the core business of all schools and just this week we utilised some of our GONSKI funding to enable all of our students from Year 7 to 12 the opportunity to access https://www.mathsonline.com.au/ in order to improve their numeracy skills. This program works in conjunction with our subscription to http://wordflyers.com.au/ that we have for our literacy development of students. Without GONSKI funding we would never have been able to provide these opportunities for your children. As a teacher in the public education system and a parent of children in the public education system, I will be following the
national debate around education closely in the lead up to the next federal election in 2019. I would encourage all supporters of
public education to do this as well so that when you utilise your democratic right you are well informed as to where each
political party sits in relation to the funding of public education.
Highlight of the fortnight:
In the last fortnight, we have had great news in regards to four students at Nambucca Heads High School.
Kelli-Anne Ridgeway and Kawana Crowe have been accepted into the 2017 UNSW Indigenous Winter School in which they will
spend a week living at NSW University in Kensington. Winter School is a program specifically for Indigenous students in Years
10, 11 and 12 who are considering further studies beyond high school. The week long residential program is designed to
provide students with the opportunity to experience what university life is all about, through participation in academic lectures
and tutorials, presentations, study sessions, team-building activities, interacting with university staff, current students and fellow
applicants, cultural activities and more.
Tasman Malouf and Olivia Desic were accepted into the very prestigious National Art School HSC Intensive Studio Practice
Program in Darlinghurst. This program is designed to enhance and extend students’ technical, conceptual and intellectual skills
under the direction of experienced, practicing artists, through intensive practical study in one of the following disciplines: black
and white photography, ceramics, digital photography, life drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.
All four girls have proven that your education is what you make of it!
Well-done girls and we look
forward to hearing all about
your experiences when you get
back.
As always, please contact
me at the school if you have
any questions in regards to
your child’s education at
NHHS.

Year 7 Geography Excursion
Cross Country
On Tuesday 16th May Year 7 students along with
staff - Ms Louise Lockyer, Mr Chris Barnes,
Ms Christine Sunley and Mr Jacob Savage - walked
to Shelly Beach to complete fieldwork as part of their
Coastal Landscapes work that they have been
studying in class. They conducted an experiment on
longshore drift by throwing tennis balls into the water
to determine the movement of the water (only one
tennis ball was lost!). Other information about Shelly
Beach was also collected such as temperature, wind
speed and direction and they made a line drawing of
the area. After completing their study of Shelly Beach
they walked across to the V-Wall. Here the students
completed a detailed sketch map of the V-Wall and
recorded how this area is used and by whom.
Students also had to compile questions in order to
conduct a survey about the area (so look out for that
in the near future). There is still more work to be
completed on the booklets the students were given on
the day. Year 7 Cahill will have to have their work
completed and handed in by Tuesday 23rd May and
Year 7 Devana have to have their work completed by
Friday 26th May. Any student who did not attend the
excursion has been given an alternate task. This will
need to be completed and handed in at the same time
as the dates already mentioned. Students had a great
day with perfect weather.
The first Year 7 student to come to the Library with Ms Lockyer’s description of “What is longshore drift” will win a
prize.
Our annual school Cross Country Carnival was run on Wednesday 3rd May after being washed out the previous week. A
large number of students took part in the event. Some were looking to break records , which Bradley Stone did in the 16
year boys. Others were happy to walk the course, which was great as they were being involved. Students who placed in
the top 6 of their age group are eligible to travel to Kempsey to compete in the Zone carnival. Good luck to all those who
will be competing at the next level.

Dear Parents/Carers,
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual
collection that counts the number of school students receiving adjustments because of disability and the level of educational
adjustment they are currently receiving.
The national data collection counts students who have been identified by a school team as receiving an adjustment to
address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA). The DDA can be viewed online at :
https://www.legislation.gov.au/Series/C2004A04426
Please take time to read the information notice below and if you have any questions please call the school and
speak to Simon McKinney or Lyndee Thomas.
Background to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD)
All Education Ministers from Commonwealth, State and Territory governments have endorsed the implementation of a
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disability in all Australian schools (Government,
Independent and Catholic).
The nationally consistent approach to data collection provides all Australian schools, education authorities and the
community with a clear picture of the number of students receiving adjustments because of disability in schools, and the
adjustments they are provided to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students.
Authority for the collection of information for the purposes of the NCCD
The Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation) (https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2016C00958 ) requires the operators of all government and non-government schools that receive Australian Government funding (approved authorities) to provide information to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the Department) for the purposes of the NCCD.
The information that approved authorities must give to the Department is set out at section 58A of the Regulation. This
includes, in relation to each student with a disability at a school operated by the approved authority:
· the student’s level of education (i.e. primary or secondary)
· the student’s category of disability (i.e. physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional)
· the student’s level of adjustment (i.e. support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,
supplementary, substantial or extensive adjustment).
Other details about the information to be collected and the format in which the information is to be provided to the
Department, are contained in guidelines approved by the Education Council (the committee of the Council of Australian
Governments comprising the Commonwealth and State and Territory Ministers responsible for education). The NCCD
guidelines are available on the Department’s website at: https://www.education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-
data-students-disability-guidelines
t The information will not explicitly identify individual students (subsection 58A(3) of the Regulation); no information
that could reasonably enable the Department to identify individual students will be provided by approved authorities to the
department1.
