CROSS COUNTRY We are now in training mode for our annual school and clus-ter cross country. Our school date is the 20th of May with the cluster event following on the 27th May. As always, your help is appreciated.

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE This term ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’ will be part of our pro-gramme in weeks 7,8 and 9. We encourage you to attend the parent information afternoon with Constable Brett Otto on 21st of May, 3.15pm in the hall. Please let the office know if you will be attending.

ELECTIVES

A parent Helper is needed to run Our LEGO elective 9.30am—10.50am each Friday. Please phone the office or see Phil Gurnick if you can help.

Thank you Robin and your helpers for putting on a superb breakfast for our Veterans, it was a real treat. As

always we have sponsors – ‘Butter ‘n Arms’ with eggs and ‘The Mad Butcher’ for discounted sausages. Thank you for

supporting our Big Breakfast and to our tamariki, thank you for your manners, patience and ability to show case our

school in a respectful manner.

On your marks, get set, GO! Cross country is next week. As always, Phil and Robbie have an awesome event

planned. We would love you to come and join in at this event. We require help marshalling, transporting our juniors

and giving places/supervision. Please contact Phil if you are able to support us.

Constable Brett Otto has changed his Keeping Ourselves Safe parent meeting to Thursday 21 May in the

school hall. The meeting starts at 3.15pm. Everyone is welcome.

Bullying is a word that brings up many emotions and pictures for people. We are working on eliminating bullying

however we need your help to find out what is going on. In classes we are talking about what bullying is and how to

ask for help. To support children we have increased the number of teachers on duty each day including sports

activities, and opened the library up for chill out times under supervision. Naomi our new Social Worker in Schools

visits rooms each Monday and Alan Scott is on site Tuesdays. Please keep us informed. Together We Rise Above and

Shine.

READING TOGETHER & MATHS WORKSHOPS WITH MRS LAING

Mrs Laing will be running Reading Together workshops this term out of the Waihi Public Library. Mrs Laing will give you practical tips to help make reading at home fun and en-joyable for all. First session starts this Thursday at 1.30pm. Please contact Mrs Laing or the office to register. Mrs Laing will also be running a Maths workshop on Tues 19th May from 3-4pm for anyone who is interested. Please register your name at the office for one or both of these courses, or for more info please contact Mrs Laing (Nik) di-rect on 022 046 0086.

POOL CLOSURE

The Waihi East School Pool is now closed. To ensure pool is open to whanau again next season, please return all keys to the office.

SATURDAY NIGHT SKATING

Saturday night skating at the Waihi Events Centre. Saturdays from 6—8 PM. $5 entry fee (includes skate hire –adult specta-tors free) Drinks etc. for sale.

MIGHTY PUCKS LEARN TO SKATE

The Waihi Miners Inline Hockey Club are running the Mighty Pucks Learn to Skate programme through Terms 2, Term 3 and Term 4. Fun for all ages and abilities. Registration taken on the day at the Waihi Events Centre. Doors open at 3.30pm and lesson starts at 4pm until 5pm.

GOOGLE COMPUTER SCIENCE FIRST Google CS First is an after school club that started this week in RM 1. Details are as follows:

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Term 2 Time: 3-4.30pm, RM 1 Age: 8 yrs +

Space for 20 students. Please contact Mr McGougan if your child is interest in attending.

The clubs first theme is ‘storytelling’. Students will get a chance to bring their stories to life on computers, developing characters and dialogue, building plots and using computer generated effects to add excitement and mystery to students stories.

In spring the bear came out of his cave. The bear went

into the forest. The bear caught the fish but then the

bear dropped the fish. The bear came to a log. The bees

were in the log. The bees stung the bear and the bear

jumped into the river. The bear caught the fish.
