Here at Sketchley: We have a very robust Maths policy which includes a Calculation Policy that develops in complexity throughout the 7 years. We ensure that children develop their own understanding by following the model below.

SATs

Last year was the first year of the new tests: They were hard! Expectations have been ramped up ! Test for the following (3 papers): PAPER 1 Arithmetic – Methods and mental calculations PAPER 2 & 3 Reasoning & Problem Solving – Explaining reasons for answers and making links complex ‘real life’ word problems We will now look at some examples of questions that were actually in last years tests for Year 6.

Homework: How can you help? Practise the basics EYFS Help your child to count objects, add single digits of objects, draw what a number ‘looks like’, use money etc Y1, Y3, Y4, Y5 Mad Maths sheets Even if your child is ‘stuck’ on a sheet that is obviously a basic skill that your child needs to learn. Time Tables By the end of Year 4 the expectation is that all children are able to recall the times table facts to ‘rapid recall’. In Year 3 and 4 we have developed new sheets that test this. Year 2 and Year 6 (SATs years) Work through the SAT books provided to help your child with the understanding of the concepts they will encounter. PLAY GAMES – MEASURE – COUNT - USE MONEY - DISCUSS SHAPE/PATTERNS
