PROBLEM #1At the road upon going to

school, Charisse spots her two other classmates behind her; Rabelle and Anne. The angle from Rabelle to Charisse is found to be 43°, and the

distance between Anne and Rabelle is 5 meters. How far is

Charisse from Anne?

5m ?43°

Anne

Charisse

Rabelle

5m ?43°

tanθ = opposite adjacent

SOLUTION:

tan(43 °) = ? 5m

tan(43 °)(5m) = ?

4.66257545m = ?

4.66m = ?

> Charisse is 4.66m away from Anne.

ANSWER:

PROBLEM #2Mae who is 1.5m tall, saw her classmate at the second floor of the building which is 4.2m away from her. If the angle of elevation from Mae’s head to her classmate’s head is 49°,

what is the height from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor of the said

building, if the height of her classmate is 1.7m?

1.5m

1.7m

4.2m

?

1.7m

4.2m?

39 °

x

SOLUTION:

tanθ = opposite adjacent

y__ 4.2m

tan(49°) =

tan(49°)(4.2m) = y

y = 4.83m

To get the height from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor:

( y – the height of her classmate) + Mae’s height = height from 1st to 2nd floor

( 4.83m – 1.7m ) + 1.5m = height from 1st to 2nd floor

4.63m = height from 1st to 2nd floor

> The height of the 1st floor to the 2nd of the certain building is 4.63m.
