Engineered materials are everywhere inour life. From the steel and concretethat build our homes, to the semi-conductor nanotechnology that connectsus, and the biomedical implants thatsave our lives. Nearly all materials thatyou see and interact with have beendesigned to give them exactly theproperties that are needed for theirintended function.
Many challenges we face in the near-future will not be solved without newand better materials . We will needmaterials that can better store energyin batteries, materials for more efficientsolar cells, in health care, displays, safe air travel, nanoelectronics - thelist goes on and on. 1,2

New materials are at the center of just about anymajor challenge we will face in the immediatefuture, from clean energy generation to quantumengineering and health care technology.Computational approaches such as The MaterialsGenome Initiative and The Materials Project arebeginning to revolutionize materials innovation.2
They apply machine learning algorithms tomassive databases, and ‘materials hackers’ usehigh performance supercomputing, propellinginnovation at blazing speed, with less predictive, new outcomes.
Minor undergraduates programmes are availablein Data Engineering, in Artificial Intelligence, andin Technopreneurship, to dynamically stimulateinnovation and disruptive entrepreneurship.1I nc . Our department takes-in a relatively smallnumber of students: about 80 each year, avoiding large classes. The individualized, diverse environment is also supported by theapproximate 3:2 male-to-female studentratio. 1
As undergraduate student, you will havefreedom to engineer your study towards yourown goals and interests, via three Pathways(Industry, Research, or Entrepreneur-focused). Also consider doing an exchangeat one of the many overseas colleges.1www.nus .edu .sg/reg is t rar /s tudent-records/s tudent-s ta t is t i cs
