GONE STREAKING: The Dodgers continued their hot streak as
they won their fifth consecutive game following a 12-0 shutout
victory over the Mets last night, which was the largest margin of
victory by the club this season. Los Angeles, which has won 11 of
its last 12 contests since June 7 and leads the big leagues with a 19-
6 (.760) record since May 25, continue its nine-game homestand
tonight (2-0) as they play the third game of a four-game set against
the Mets. Following the series against New York, Los Angeles will
continue its homestand with a weekend series against the Rockies
and a two-game set against the Angels.
With the shutout victory last night, Los Angeles has
blanked opponents five times this season, which is the
second most in the National League behind just the St.
Louis Cardinals’ six shutout wins.
In 18 games during the month of June, the Dodgers hold
the second best record in the Major Leagues with a 13-5
mark (.722), trailing just the Rockies’ 14-4 (.778) record.
With the 12-run victory last night, the Dodgers are
currently atop the Majors with a +114 run differential,
taking the top spot from the Astros (+113).
The Dodgers, who have won their last six games at Dodger
Stadium, are 27-10 (.730) at home this season, which is the
second best home record in the Majors, behind only
Arizona (26-9, .743).
The Dodgers, who took the 2016 series from the Mets 4-3,
have won 11 of their last 16 games against the Mets at the
Ravine since July 1, 2012. Los Angeles has also gone 9-3
(.750) against NL East opponents this season, which is the
second best winning percentage against that division
among NL clubs, trailing the Cardinals 11-2 mark (.846).
BOMB SQUAD: Corey Seager (3 HR), Cody Bellinger (1 HR)
and Yasmani Grandal (1 HR) provided the Dodgers with a season-
high tying five home runs last night, which were the most since
recoding five longballs on April 29 against the Phillies. The club has
stroked 27 home runs in its last 10 games and according the Stats
LLC., it is the most homers hit in Dodger franchise history during a
10-game span. It is also the most homers recorded by a big league
club in a 10-game span since the Nationals hit 27 in 2012.
The Dodgers have recorded at least four home runs in each
of their last three home games, which according to Elias
Sports Bureau, tied the Major League record for
consecutive home games hitting at least four longballs. The
feat, which has been accomplished six previous times, was
most recently done by the Yankees earlier this season (April
19-29).
Los Angeles is averaging 1.57 home runs per game at
Dodger Stadium this year (58 HR/37 G), its most in
Stadium history. The team’s previous high was 1.33 HR/G
in 2000 (108 HR/81 G).
HILL-TOPPER: The Dodgers will send veteran southpaw Rich
Hill to the mound tonight for his ninth start of the season, as he seeks
his fourth win of the year. Hill has gone 3-3 with a 5.14 ERA (20
ER/35.0 IP) in eight starts this season, while striking out 35 batters
in 35.0 innings.
Since joining the Dodgers last season, Hill has gone 4-3
with a 2.65 ERA (10 ER/34.0 IP) in seven starts at Dodger
Stadium. He has struck out 34 batters against 18 walks,
while holding the opposition to a .208 average at home.
Hill has been excellent with runners in scoring position this
season as he is holding batters to a .158 (6-for-38) average
in those situations, which is tied for the fourth-best mark in
the NL with the Cardinals’ Carlos Martinez (min. 45 batters
faced) and behind just the Mets’ Matt Harvey (.123), the
Cubs’ Mike Montgomery (.116) and the Nationals’ Gio
Gonzalez (.107).
CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF CODY LOVE: Today, the Dodgers
announced the latest addition to their “Bobblehead Lineup:”Cody
Bellinger on Sept. 8 against the Rockies! Bellinger extended his
National League leading home run total to 22, with a two-run blast
in the first inning in last night’s contest. Bellinger has recorded 10
homers in his last 10 games, becoming just the second Dodger in
franchise history to record 10 longballs in 10 contests, joining
Shawn Green (May 2002) and became the only rookie in Major
League history to accomplish the feat. He also becomes the last
player in the big leagues to hit 10 homers in 10 games since Troy
Tulowitzki, who hit 11 bombs in 10 games from Sept. 8-18, 2010
with the Rockies.
Since his promotion on April 25, Bellinger leads the
Majors in home runs, RBI (49) and home runs per at bat
(8.91), while ranking third in slugging percentage (.726).
He is also hitting .270 (53-for-196) with 40 runs scored,
10 doubles and a triple, along with a .342 on-base
percentage in 52 games this season.
YOU GOTTA VOTE FOR HIM: MLB revealed its fourth All-Star
balloting update on Monday and Corey Seager continues to trail
Cincinnati’s Zack Cozart for the top spot at the shortstop position by
321,560 votes. Seager is vying to be the first Dodger shortstop to
start in the All-Star Game since Bill Russell in 1980. Fans are
encouraged to #VoteBlue at Dodgers.com/Vote.
Seager blasted a career-high tying three home runs in last
night’s contest (also: June 3, 2016 vs. ATL) with a two-
run shot in the first inning, a solo-shot in the fourth and a
three-run shot in the fifth. Seager also recorded career-
highs with four hits (5x, last: Aug. 22, 2016 at CIN) and
six RBI, as he collected his team-leading 23rd multi-hit
game of the season (T-8th, NL). His 51 runs scored
currently ranks fourth in the National League, while also
ranking among the league leaders in doubles (19, 6th),
walks (44, T-6th) and OBP (.399, 7th).
Seager posted his fifth career multi-homer game last night
(last: Aug. 8, 2016) and according to Elias Sports Bureau,
he became the second youngest player in Major League
history to record two three-homer games at 23 years and 54
days old since Boog Powell did so at the age of 22 years
and 315 days in 1964.
ROSTER MOVE: Prior to tonight’s contest, the Dodgers recalled
right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow from Triple-A Oklahoma
City and optioned right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart to Triple-A
OKC. Morrow, who will make his second stint with the big league
club, has gone 2-0 in five relief appearances for the Dodgers this
season and has yet to allow a run in 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
Stewart made his first appearance of the 2017 season last night
against the Mets, recording his first-career save after tossing 3.0
scoreless innings with four strikeouts against one walk.
DOWN ON THE FARM: Three Dodger minor leaguers last night
represented in the Single-A Midwest League All-Star game, as Great
Lakes Loons INF Brendon Davis, C Keibert Ruiz and RHP Dustin
May all had successful showings in the game. Great Lakes skipper
Jeremy Rodriguez, who managed the East Team, gave May the
starting nod as he allowed just one hit and struck out one in a
scoreless frame. Davis, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the
ninth inning, blasted a solo home run to record one of the two runs
scored by the East, while Ruiz finished the game going 1-for-2,
knocking in a single in the ninth.
