Welcome
H ello and Welcome to West Street for what is the middle of three home games on the bounce. Today we welcome Lincoln Moorlands Railway from just
down the A15 for what is a pretty big game for both sides, at the wrong end of the table. Rangers will be looking to bounce back after the disappointing per-formance in midweek against Appleby Frodingham which saw us knocked out of the Lincs Senior Trophy. A return to the type of foot-ball played against Nostell (which should had given Rangers a de-served three points, but a floodlight fire brought the game to a prem-ature end. When your luck is out its out.) the week before would be ideal Reports from Staveley between these two games spoke of a good performance against a good side that was spoilt by a key errors, but a young side are prone to dips in performance and we hope Wednesday was just that. Heads up lads, onwards and upwards.

Competing one step above Lincoln Moorlands and ourselves are Lincoln United. Only a single point gained from the first seven games has left them rooted to the foot of ta-ble in the Northern Premier League (South). Unless an improvement is forthcoming the Ashby Avenue club could well find themselves competing in the Northern Counties East next season. In the same division as United, our neighbours Brigg Town are hov-ering around mid-table, not threatening to chase the leading pack but similarly well away from trouble at the foot of the table. The Zebra’s have found the going tough in recent seasons but continue to battle and stay in the Northern Premier League. De-spite competing at a slightly higher level nowadays, their glory days of FA Vase finals and regular high finishes in the NCEL, seem a long way off. Gainsborough Trinity (Football Conference, Northern Section) came within 90 minutes of promotion to the National Conference last season. Failure to beat Nuneaton in the play-off final at the Northolme, meant Trinity missed out on the chance to compete against county rivals Grimsby Town and Lincoln City on an even keel. Chairman and main backer, Peter Swann, has revealed he is to stand down at the end of the season on medical grounds. He suffered 'Thunderclap Headaches' in May this year and medi-cal tests done at the time discovered a 12mm lesion on the right side of his brain. While it has not been confirmed whether that was causing the headaches, Swann has decided it is time he focused on his health and his family. "I am struggling," Swann added. "I am certainly not the person I was. The good news for Trinity fans is that Swann has promised to leave them with no debts. Gainsborough currently sit in mid-table after a steady start to the new campaign. That has covered all the mid and northern Lincolnshire football clubs who play at a higher level than ourselves. There are of course, several teams who play alongside us in the NCEL. In our own division, Barton Town are making a real effort to stay with the leading pack after stabilising last season following promotion from Division One. We are due to visit Marsh Lane on Saturday 10
th November with the return fixture taking
place here at West Street on Boxing Day. In Division One, the best placed Lincolnshire clubs are Louth United and new boys Cleethorpes Town. There is a real chance one of them may go on to gain promotion. It is also pleasing to see Bottesford Town and Grimsby Borough in the top half of the table. Appleby Frodingham, visitors to West Street in cup competition last week, continue to struggle and come the end of the sea-son, their place in the NCEL could be in real jeopardy. Finally today, enjoy the game and have a safe journey home. Up the Blues Wintonian

Welcome to Moorlands Lincoln Moorlands have made the relatively short journey up the A15 for this afternoon’s league game. We welcome their players, officials and supporters to Winterton for a vital battle at the foot of the table. I
think it is fair to say, everyone at West Street is still getting over the huge disappoint-ment of the last league game played here at hq. The team were so close to grabbing their first home win of the season, against Nostell Miners Welfare when the floodlights failed. Hopefully we can put that right this afternoon when another vital three points are at stake. Like ourselves, Moorlands have struggled to get results this season and will also be hoping for a morale boosting victory today. On a day when we welcome county rivals, it seemed an opportune time to look at how the local football teams are faring this season. Down the road at Glanford Park, Lincolnshire’s only football League club are struggling once again in League One. The club only just managed to stay up last sea-son, following their relegation from the Championship. Despite Alan Knill reshaping his squad during the summer, there has been precious little sign of improvement. Ironically, last season’s survival owed a lot to the goals scored by loan signing Jon Parkin and currently the Iron are being bolstered by loan striker Leon Clarke from Charlton Athletic. Parkin netted six goals in 14 appearances for United whilst Clarke recently scored in his first five games for the Iron. Stepping into non-league (if you can call the almost all full-time Conference clubs non-leaguers these days), Grimsby Town are making a better fist of it as they bid to re-gain a place in the Football League. In recent weeks the number of home supporters at Blundell Park has surpassed those attending games at Glanford Park. We have already mentioned todays visitors Lincoln Moorlands of course, and down the A15, the city of Lincoln is going through a depressing time from a footballing point of view. The Red Imps of Lincoln City are once again battling too close for comfort at the wrong end of the Conference table. They openly admit it is difficult to compete from a financial point of view against many fellow Conference clubs. On a more positive note, it appears there are backers in the wings who may join the club and inject some much needed funds.

Welcome
Lincoln Moorlands Football Club was founded in May 1989 and began their football in the Websters York-shire Bitter Central Midlands League Premier Division. The first season was a very successful one under manager Stan Dye, winning the Lincolnshire County Senior B Cup and finishing an excellent 4th position in the Premier Division. Former Lincoln City player, Trevor Thompson took over before the commencement of the 1990/91 season. Trevor’s first job was to bring in the very well known Barry Ramm as his assistant and they began a ‘rebuilding job’ in readiness for the new C.M.L season. That season saw Moorlands finish in 6th posi-tion and very nearly retain their Lincolnshire Senior Cup crown losing to eventual winners Harrowby United in a close semi-final. 1991/92 season saw the C.M.L split into North and South sections. Moorlands playing in the Northern League finished 7th (after a poor start) but once again figured in both cup competitions reaching the quarter-finals. It was a during the close season of 1992 that the Central Midlands League took the decision to only allow clubs with a minimum ground grading into their League. Moorlands, although with the required financial backing and plans, were ‘thrown out.’ This left the club in a difficult position as all other Leagues were nearly all full but thanks to the Lincoln & District Football League, Moorlands found themselves a ‘home.’ The 1992 season was an enjoyable one. Moorlands finished in a joint top position along with AFC Friendship and Limestone Rangers and went on to win the Amateur Cup against Hykeham Town on the ground of Lincoln City. The 1993/94 season saw the club gain acceptance into the Lincolnshire League. The following season saw a reserve side formed which duly became champions of the Lincoln & District Saturday League Division One. 1995/96 saw the club win another major honour, this time the Lincolnshire League Challenge Cup. A 2-0 win over Appleby Frodingham saw manager Stuart Gordon complete a county ‘double’ as he had recently previ-ously managed a team that won a County Sunday Cup. 1996/97 Moorlands began their 4th campaign in the Lincolnshire League with Stuart Gordon and Dave Wil-kinson in charge and during the campaign additionally secured the services of former Lincoln United Reserves manager Graham Clarke. The club compiled their record points and goals tally in a single season and also won the County Senior B Cup outplaying Limestone Rangers 4-0 at Sincil Bank. 1997/98 – Graham Clarke took over team affairs but was replaced in October by former Lincoln United player & manager Gary God-dard. Gary took Moorlands to a top 5 league spot and retained the County Senior B Cup following an exciting 2-1 win over Sleaford Town. 1998/99 – Moorlands moved into the C.M.L and Gary was assisted by well known player Stuart Park. Moorlands won the Premier Division and created C.M.L history by going through an entire sea-son undefeated. Moorlands also came close to retaining the Coun-ty Senior B but went down 2-0 to Barton Town Old Boys. 1999-2000 This season saw Moorlands move up into the Supreme Division of the C.M.L and at the first time of asking won the league by one point from Shirebrook Town who had led for the majority of the season and looked like certain winners. Also in that season Moorlands made more history by reaching their 4th successive County Cup Final. In that Senior A Cup Final they lost to highly rated Brigg Town 2-0. 2000-01 season saw Moorlands finish 2nd behind Shirebrook who won the title on goal difference. The club did however gain promo-tion to the Northern Counties East League for the first time. In reaching the final of the Senior A Cup, Moorlands had the distinc-tion of requiring a penalty shoot out in every round including a 5-4 penalty win in the final to win the title.

2001/02 season saw Moorlands finish a creditable 4th in their first North East Counties league campaign. Manager Gary Goddard departed for Lincoln United and took several players with him. John Priestley took over and Moorlands retained the Senior A Cup with a 1-0 win over Holbeach United at Sincil Bank creating a record 6th Cup Final appearance in as many seasons. The Youth team won the Intermedi-ate League Premier Division and also reached a County Cup Final. 2002/03 season saw the club consolidating their position in the Northern Counties League although silver-ware eluded the club. 2003/04 then saw an excellent 6th place finish. The highlight of the season was reaching the 3rd round of the FA Vase eventually going out to Billingham Town in the north east. The club was also awarded the FA Cup Club of the Round Award after knocking out Arnold Town 1-0. 2004/05 season saw John Priestley lead the side to a 4th place finish and also lifting the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. 18 year old Sean Cann’s 29 league and cup goals were a tribute to John’s youth development policy. The season finished on a high with the legendary Peter Lorimer attending the clubs presentation night. 2005/06 season finished with a disappointing 7th placed finish and the departure of John Priestley as Man-ager to be replaced by Player/Manager Rick Ranshaw. 2006/07 Assistant Manager Darren Dye took charge following the departure of Ranshaw and the club end-ed on a high by beating Deeping Rangers in the County Senior A Cup and gaining the coveted promotion albeit at the expense of Sutton Town. 2007/08 season was Moorlands first in the North East Counties Premier Division. It proved to be a difficult step-up and the club narrowly finished in the last relegation position. However the club received a reprieve from relegation and began season 2008/09 in the Premier Division. 2008/09 season began with a run of 14 league defeats, the only respite coming in a couple of cup victories. The first points were finally gained on the 8 Nov with a remarkable 8-0 home win against Eccleshill. Points still proved hard to come by but to the immense credit of the management and players 6 victories and 2 draws in the final 9 games saw off relegation and an 18th place finish. 2009/10 season was as much a struggle as the previous one although the first league victory came early against the much fancied Scarborough Town. The highlight of the first half season were two FA Vase vic-tories. Points remained hard to come by and after a 6-0 home defeat before Xmas the writing was on the wall. An enforced 6 week break caused by poor weather and a couple of changing room break-ins didn’t see the team play again until late Jan 10. Feb 2010 saw a new management team come in with Chris Moy-ses and Baz Barker replacing Darren Dye and Darren Stamp. New faces brought an immediate improve-ment and in a remarkable repeat of the previous season safety was gained with a late run of results. From taking over the new management team managed 7 wins and 3 draws from the final 19 games and comfort-ably avoided relegation. 2010/11 season saw Moorlands finish in their highest ever league position of 6th. The highlight of the sea-son was a fine FA Cup run before losing in a 3rd Qual Rd replay at Mossley. The team played some attrac-tive attacking football characterised by some exciting performances including a 8-2 victory at Armthorpe and a remarkable final day 7-4 win at Brighouse. In the summer the management duo of Moyses and Barker stood down, Moyses taking up a post at Lincoln City. The club moved quickly and appointed player coach Danny George as manager and former Burnley player Dean West as his assistant. Danny has brought in former Lincoln Utd manager Seamus Lawless as coach to form a very strong partnership that will hopefully see the Moors continue their steady rise. 2011/12 Will go down as a forgettable season with Danny and Dean finding it difficult to field a regular side and it was little of a surprise that the club struggled most of the season. Moorlands were to end in a second from bottom position and were expecting relegation, but the expulsion of Handsworth and an increase to 22 teams per Division meant a reprieve Danny left and Dean after initially accepting the job to continue then left for Stamford It was after a number of interviews with interested candidates that ex Lincoln City and Scunthorpe player Matt Carmichael was appointed for the new season, bringing experience and enthusiasm to what will be a very young squad of players. Despite last season’s difficulties the future is definitely looking rosy

The Non-League Paper Programme Column By Matt Badcock EVERY football team has been wronged on the pitch at some point in
their history. Be it a goal against allowed to stand even though the striker was two yards offside or a stonewall penalty that is waved away. Of course these occurrences happen, somewhere, every week. It’s the decisions that come along once in a blue moon that really get the supporters’ goat. Take the recent FA Cup replay between Bashley and Gosport Borough. Evo-Stik Southern Premier Bash lost 3-2 after extra-time. But before that they had gone into a 3-2 lead themselves. Or so they thought. James Stokoe’s effort had crossed the line only for Gosport keeper Nathan Ashmore to kick the ball through a hole in the net in frustration at conceding the goal. Referee Will Bull then awarded a corner. Now this was clearly an unintentional mistake, albeit a grave one, from the match offi-cials. Bashley, managed by Frank Gray, are understandably annoyed that Gosport players didn’t own up, or let their visitors score from the resulting corner. According to manager Alex Pike, more than half a dozen of his players came to him saying it was unquestiona-bly a goal. None of them told the ref. Gray has previous in good sportsmanship. When he was in charge of Woking in 2007 he ordered his side to stand aside and allow Grays a free goal. Gentlemanly acts restore our faith in a game that is often seen to be sinking further into a pit of despair particularly at the cash-rich levels where diving and faking is common prac-tice. A lot of people have been quick to criticise Gosport. ‘We wouldn’t want to win like that,’ they say. But can fans really preach the ‘holier than thou’ line? Would you really have the same feelings if it was your team benefitting? If it meant winning the league or getting one over your rivals? Be honest now. It’s easy to justify it in your mind. When Ukraine looked to have scored against England in Euro 2012 only for the officials to wave on play, thoughts immediately turned to South Africa. At the 2010 World Cup Frank Lampard’s shot against Germany had clearly crossed the line but it wasn’t given. Two years later was payback for that, we told ourselves. Sometimes it’s just too tempting to take the gift and keep schtum. A bit like Monopoly when the banker gives you too much change. In an ideal world you’d give it back. But you know at some point in future the board game gods will deal you a bad hand. And, especially in sport, we don’t live in an ideal world

Louis ( Dougy ) Reed – A combative midfielder whose hard work and desire some-times goes un noticed. A player who has stepped up from Harworth Colliery who will be looking to stamp his authority on the team. Luke Anderson – Luke is a wide midfielder who has come on in leaps and bounds over pre- season, been really impressed with his attitude and hard work, will continue to improve. He’s a player who likes to get the ball to his feet and run at the defenders, will be an important player for us. Robbie Start – Robbie is proving to be a player who can play in a few posi-tions for us, finding the right one that suits him is proving to be difficult. A player that likes to get the ball and run with a few tricks up his sleeve, needs to learn how to do it in the right areas and for the team, but can be the match winner we need. A big season for Robbie, let’s hope he can step up and be the player we know he can be. Aaron Draper – Striker who has the ability to play at this level, but the question is does he believe? Needs confidence but he has worked solid over the pre- season and I hope he gets his just rewards. Former Chesterfield. F.C player. A player who holds the ball up well and creates for players around him. Josh Batty – The baby of the team at 17!! , we saw the potential in him from day 1, released from Doncaster Rovers in the summer. Really looking forward to working with him and developing him as a footballer, already scored some goals in pre-season, will play a big part this season and for the future. Tom Finnigan – Another local lad who has something to prove this season. Holds the ball up and looks to play off the shoulders and play behind the defence. Former Lin-coln Moorlands player who can score goals at this level.
Lewis Hilton – A player who likes to be on the ball, strong and can finish. Had a bad
injury last year which affected his confidence, if we can get him fit and confident will be
a great addition. Ex Rossington Main player.
Lee Herrick – Former Scunthorpe United School boy, played for Lincoln Moorlands Last year. Very vocal in the changing
rooms, great all round keeper and a wealth of experience. Steve Wibberley – Been at university for last few years so hasn’t been playing on a regular basis, but he has come in for pre-season with a great attitude and worked hard and will push hard for the number 1 jersey. Another great all round keeper and a former Harworth Colliery player. Robbie Spence – A young but commanding centre half who was released by Scun-thorpe United this summer. Since coming in he has been a breath of fresh air, certain-ly one for the future. Great to work with and always willing to learn, former clubs in-clude Scunthorpe United and Thorne Colliery. Glenn Rafferty – Tall, strong Centre half who is fully committed to the cause and wins everything in the air but is also comfortable with the ball at his feet. A massive player for us who our young lads will look up to. Thorne Colliery and Askern Villa being his old clubs. Jordan Pickering – A left footed player who can play anywhere down the left side of the pitch and will be used in both positions throughout the season. If he realises his own potential, he can go on to bigger and better things. Former Retford United and Harworth Colliery player. Alex Jenkins – Full back who will give much needed cover throughout the season. Starts back at University in September. A full back who likes to join in the attacks, very fit. Josh Turgoose – Left footed player who can play in a few positions. Needs to realise his own position but a player who we feel can be very important, another player who if he realises his potential can do great things. A local lad who has played for Appleby Frodingham in the past.

G ood afternoon everyone and welcome to West Street for todays big game against Lincoln Moorlands.
After our 8-0 win on Monday night against Askern Vil-la, myself Matt and Steve decided to give the lads the week off and get ready for a big training session next week and an even bigger game against the cup hold-ers from Bradford. I don't think as a club we could of had a harder start to
our U19s careers. Placed in the toughest Division, our first two games against the two best sides in the league and now we face the cup holders. Would we want it any other way, not a chance! This is what tests the lads week in week out and we don't want to be facing teams that we beat 8-0 every week, we want challenges and we want to face the best to become the best. New Assistant Manager and Coach Introduction: Like I said last week, Matt Hammond (Assistant Manager) and Steve Jen-kins (Coach) have joined me in the dugout and Im over the moon with how theve worked with the lads and me. Matt has bags of experience at this level, he's a person that knows the cir-cuit very well and he really is very good when it comes to training and talks in the changing rooms. Like Steve, he wants to play the same way and has the same philosophy as myself to what we want, now and long term. Matt is a massive asset to the U19s and for the club in general. Steve again very much like Matt, Steve likes to watch the game than rather bark out orders, he's the cool head of the set up by there's nothing he doesn't know about U19s football and football in general. The little things like pre-match warm ups have been raised a level and I know the lads are delighted to have him with us. As a group, we want to play the same way. We want to make this an enjoyable place to play football and to develop these young local players into the first team. We hope to see you all at the ground next week for the BIG cup game. Winterton Rangers v AFC Field - 11th October - 7:45pm Kick Off Thanks
