Masters of the scene

I was just thinking today that unlike watching a human portrait photo, when viewing a skylineimage, many observers hint that the image has a futuristic look, or that the whole scene seems to beas if it was taken from a dream. Such feedback is not common when viewing a person portraitphoto. On the contrary, many times such portraits receive a feedback of an antique look, fromanother era.

This feedback difference is very interesting. A skyline full of a building matrix impress people andtakes their thought to the future, while looking at a person photo makes us think about his/herspast.

When you usually observe a photo or image what you see is the past. That’s no secret. The photowas taken a while ago until it was released and published, sometimes a month ago or even a yearago. Even in today’s instagram or snapchat immediate online social services, these streams containnot only realtime photos but it also items of many who prefer to publish photos of a past trip or amemory of some event that happened in the past.

And still, a person photo does not lead our thought to think about the future but probably abouthow this person looked when being younger. When presenting skylines, it’s totally the opposite.

A skyline photographer usually is a storyteller like any other photographer, he is a master of thescene. Waiting for the exact moment that fits his goals and concept. While the stage is usually ready,composed of moving items and static one, the light is constantly changing. The maestro is like asniper waiting for the perfect moment when the light is perfect and where the moving items and thestatic ones match and ready to be captured. A master of the scene knows that when shooting askyline photo the magic moments are super short, so patience and concentration are essential.

A master of the scene is a composer, a choirmaster, a conductor.
