PART ONE - "MASTER AND SLAVE"

TEASER

DEEP SPACE - PEACEFUL

Suddenly, the TARDIS zips by, zigzagging through space.

INT.TARDIS

As Donna and her grandfather Wilfred watch, the Doctor andanother man fight for control of the TARDIS. The intruderlooks slightly older than the youthful Doctor, but sports adistinctive, well-trimmed light brown beard. They runaround the hexagonal TARDIS control panel flipping leversand trying to stop the other, all the while yelling at eachother over the lurching, out-of-control TARDIS.

DOCTOR

Don’t touch that! Very sensitiveequipment! Not something forbeginners.

INTRUDERQuiet, I’m working.

DOCTOR(straining to get the intruderaway from controls)

Then you might want to get your ownoffice!

INTRUDER(pushes back to controls)

Sorry, haven’t got time for that.

DOCTORYou know, most people ask beforetraveling with me.

INTRUDERDo I look like people?

DOCTOR

Nah, you’re a little hairier thanmost.

The intruder sheepishly rubs his beard.

INTRUDERDonna likes it.

The Doctor stares at Donna.

WILFREDOh, thanks.

DOCTOR(to Intruder)T-M-I. If you want to be anassistant I’d gladly consider, butthere are application forms andpapers and passports andlicenses. Very complicatedprocess.

INTRUDERSaying "Ooooh, it’s bigger on theinside!" seems to get most anyoneon board.

The Doctor grabs a photo of Rose Tyler off the console andshoves it in a drawer. The intruder does not notice.

DOCTORHow would you even know what youare on board?

INTRUDERTARDIS. Time and RelatedDimensions in Space.

DOCTOR, WILFRED, DONNA (IN SYNC)

Relative!

DOCTORNow where are you even taking us?

INTRUDERJust a little detour. A coursecorrection, if you will.

DOCTORNo, no, you don’t do that!

INTRUDERI know what I’m doing! It’s inboth our best interests.

DOCTORThen you must be mistaken. Now getout, this is my room!

DOCTOR(pausing)

The intruder throws a lever.

The Doctor pauses, realizing who he’s dealing with.

INT.DONNA’S HOUSE

SUPERIMPOSED:

Donna’s grandfather Wilfred and her mother Sylvia eatbreakfast.

SYLVIADad, where’s Donna got off to?

WILFREDEh? Oh, I don’t know.

SYLVIAShe’s been gone for two days.

WILFREDOh, a lot longer than that, Iimagine.

WILFREDDon’t worry. She’ll be back in herown time.

The familiar sound of the TARDIS can be heard outside.

SYLVIAWhat’s that sound?

WILFREDDonna.

EXT.NEIGHBOURHOOD

Wilfred and Sylvia come outside just as the TARDIS finishesmaterializing on the lawn. Donna comes out.

DONNAMum, granddad!

WILFREDDonna!

SYLVIA(to Wilfred)

What was she doing in that box?

The Doctor stumbles out of the TARDIS dressed in a Hawaiianshirt and shorts that are just the slightest bit too small

for him.

SYLVIAWith...him?

WILFREDI thought you knew him. Don’t tellme you’ve never met the Doctor.

SYLVIAIf only.

DONNAIt’s great to see you again,Mum. How are things going on theol’ homestead?

SYLVIAWe’re fine, Donna. We can survivetwo days without you.

DONNATwo days? Oh, yeah. Lost track oftime.

SYLVIAWhere on Earth have you been?

Donna brushes past her into the house.

SYLVIAAlright, really. Be serious for asecond.

INT.DONNA’S HOUSE

Donna, the Doctor, Wilfred, and Sylvia are gathered in theliving room.

SYLVIASo tell me, why did you two bringus a police box?

DONNAWell, it’s his box.

DOCTORMy box.

SYLVIABut really, what have you beendoing? You never even called me.

WILFREDShe’s just got back, don’t pressher so much.

SYLVIAI have a right to know what mydaughter is doing with her life.

DONNAOh, you know. Things. Very boringthings. You wouldn’t beinterested.

SYLVIAAh. Well, let me go get you somesnacks.

Sylvia heads toward the kitchen but hides around a corner,able to hear the conversation in the living room.

DOCTORBoring things? You could be moreappreciative.

DONNAI am! It was amazing, Doctor. Ijust don’t think I’m ready to tellher. Not yet.

DOCTORWe--

He pauses as Sylvia comes back in with snacks.

SYLVIAOh, don’t let me interrupt you.

DOCTORWe were just talking about...howlovely your house is.

SYLVIAReally? Donna used to tell me howrepulsive the place is. Funnyshe’d change her mind in two days.

DONNAMother!

SYLVIASo how long are you and yourboyfriend planning to stay?

DONNAHe is not my boyfriend!

DOCTORI should think so! At my age I’dbe her man-friend!

DONNAIt’s a term, Doctor.

DOCTORAh. Yes. Just making a joke.

SYLVIALook, you don’t have to hide itfrom me. I heard what you weresaying about not telling me, butI’d love to know your plans.

The Doctor and Donna glance at each other.

DOCTORCan I tell her?

DONNAMay as well.

DOCTORAlright, here goes. I’m a TimeLord from the planet Gallifrey, andDonna and I have been travelingtogether in my spaceship.

SYLVIADon’t kid, kid.

DOCTORI’m not kidding! We’ve been flyingthrough space!

SYLVIANever heard it called that before.

DOCTORI mean we’re literally flyingthrough space! In aspaceship! You just saw usland! That groaning,remember? The...

The Doctor imitates the TARDIS sound.

DOCTOR(gesturing between him andDonna)

That was us.

Silence. They all stare at the Doctor.

DOCTORUh, what I mean is--

SYLVIAWhy are you covering yourselveswith this ridiculous spaceshipstory? Kids, I want to hear thetruth! I’m happy for you two!

DONNAMum, this is the truth. We’re nottogether, not how you mean. TheDoctor is a Time Lord. He comesfrom another planet. Remember, hesaved us from the Daleks!

WILFREDThey’re telling the truth. I’vebeen in his ship.

The conversation is interrupted by the telephoneringing. Wilfred answers it.

WILFREDHello?

EXT.STREET

The Master, the man seen in the teaser, stands at a phonebooth talking on the phone.

MASTERYes, hello, is this the Nobleresidence?

INTERCUT -- PHONE CONVERSATION

WILFREDYes. Who is this?

MASTERMr. Quentin Anax.

WILFREDAnax? Oh, you’re Donna’sfriend. She’s talked about you.

MASTERI’m flattered. Just checking by,seeing if Donna is in.

WILFREDWell, this isn’t really a good

time.

MASTERCould I stop by later?

WILFREDUh, I suppose. I’d have to askDonna--

The Master hangs up.

INT.DONNA’S HOUSE

WILFREDApparently your friend Anax iscoming over later today.

DONNAOh, him.

DOCTORWho?

DONNAQuentin’s just a guy I know. A bitawkward but he’s nice enough. Alot like you, actually.

EXT.STREET

The Master exits the phone booth and walks down thestreet. He pulls a small communicator out of his pocket.

MASTEREn route. I will be on Gallifrey

in a matter of hours.

VOICE (V.O.)Good. Contact us when you arethere.

The voice is that of Dalek Caan!

INT.DONNA’S HOUSE

The doorbell rings, and Sylvia answers. The Master iswaiting outside.

SYLVIAMr. Anax.

MASTERAh, Mrs. Noble! Pleasure to seeyou again.

WILFREDHey, Quentin. Come in, come in!

The Doctor watches as the Master speaks quietly to Donna asthey go into another room. Wilfred and Sylvia come backinto the living room.

DOCTORSo, who is this guy?

WILFREDAn old friend. They workedtogether for a while.

DOCTOR

Ah.

After an awkward silence, Donna and the Master come back.

DONNAMum, Dad, can I talk you you for amoment?

SYLVIASure, honey.

DONNA(walking away)

He’s just asked me out. I don’tknow what to say...

They walk into another room to talk, leaving the Doctoralone with the Master. There’s another bit of silence.

DOCTORSo, uh, how about that weather?

MASTERHm? Oh, yes, the weather. Very...

DOCTORVery...weathery.

MASTERYes, quite. Weathery.

Silence.

MASTERDo you watch sports?

DOCTORSports? Oh, you know,sometimes. Football...

He motions swinging a golf club.

DOCTOR(continuing)

...and all that.

MASTERSo, what else do guys from aroundhere talk about? I’m not a local,you see.

DOCTOR

Oh, you know. Politics and girlsand fishing. Guy stuff.

MASTERAh.

Silence.

MASTERSo, uh, how about that weather?

DOCTORStill weathery.

MASTERAh, yes. Just checking.

As they talk, the Master tries to secretly reach intoDonna’s purse to retrieve her TARDIS key, but stops whenDonna, Sylvia, and Wilfred reenter the room.

DONNASo, got anywhere in mind?

MASTERHuh?

DONNAFor our date, silly!

The Doctor is clearly shocked.

MASTEROh, yes, of course. I know thislovely restaurant very nearhere. Italian and Mediterranean.

DONNA

Salads?

MASTERAnd calzones.

DOCTOR(under breath)

What a ham.

DONNAThat sounds lovely. Tomorrownight, then?

MASTERYes, that would be excellent.

DONNASee you then, Quenty.

The Master seems surprised, and genuinely smilesfaintly. The Doctor is disgusted.

MASTERI look forward to it.

The Master leaves the house.

DONNAHe’s sweet, isn’t he?

DOCTOR(sarcastic)

Oh, yes, Quenty is just amazing.

The Doctor sees Wilfred and Sylvia are there.

DOCTORCould I speak to you outside for amoment?

Donna and the Doctor head outside.

EXT.NEIGHBOURHOOD - NIGHT

The Doctor and Donna exit the house and stand halfwaybetween the house the TARDIS.

DOCTORDonna, what are you doing? We were

going to Metebelis Seven tomorrow!

DONNAI know, but Doctor...I...I don’treally want to go.

DOCTORFine! We can go toFelspoon. There are mountains thatsway in the breeze--

DONNAI mean I want to stay here.

DOCTORWhat?

DONNAI want to stay on Earth. WithQuentin and mum and granddad.

DOCTORQuentin? But I...

DONNAIf you wanted to go out with me,you could have just asked! I stillwould’ve said no, but you shouldhave asked!

DOCTORNo, it’s not that, it’s--

DONNAOh, I see. It’s that I can get adate and you can’t.

DOCTOR

I wouldn’t put it like that--

DONNAThen how would you put it?

DOCTORDonna, the only person who’s everloved me in the past thousand yearsis trapped in another universe.

DOCTORThen I feel sorry for that version

of me, because I would never marrythat psychopath! Point is, thisalways happens. People always findanother person, and leave mebehind.

DONNAThen find someone yourself!

DONNA

Fine!

DOCTORFine!

The Doctor walks to the TARDIS and Donna walks to thehouse. They both slam the doors behind them.

INT.TARDIS

DOCTORFine. I’ll find someone.

Pushing buttons and flipping levers, his hand hits thepicture of Rose on the console. He picks it up and looks atit for a moment.

DOCTORI’ll find someone else.

He fires up the TARDIS.

INT.DONNA’S HOUSE

Donna slams the door behind her.

WILFREDDonna, what’s wrong?

DONNANothing.

WILFREDThere’s something wrong, and I wantto know what it is.

DONNAI’m not sure I want to travel withthe Doctor any more. I want my own

life here.

WILFREDHave you told him?

DONNAHe’s getting an idea of it. Andhe’s not taking it well. I mean,this must happen for everyone whotravels with him long enough. TheTARDIS, the time travel, it’s allamazing and fun and all, but I wantto come back home. For

good. Because I think if I staytoo long with him...

WILFREDWhat?

DONNAHe makes you feel safe, like heknows exactly what he’s doing andeverything will be okay. Butsomewhere you just know...you knowhow much danger you’re alwaysin. Danger that, some time, the

Doctor won’t be able to save youfrom. It’s just a matter oftime. Ironic, isn’t it?

WILFREDIt’s your choice. If you want tostay here, it’ll be great to haveyou back. If you want to stay withthe Doctor a while longer, I’llwait for you. You’ll always have ahome here.

EXT.STREET

The TARDIS lands on a sidewalk. The Doctor comes outdressed in the same outfit the First Doctor would normallywear. A group of women walks by, and the Doctor smiles andnods at them. They pick up their pace and continue on. TheDoctor glances down at his gettup.

DOCTORCome on, this used to work like acharm.

Another woman walks by.

DOCTOR

(seductively)Hey. I’ve got two hearts, and oneof them is for you.

She looks disgusted and walks on.

DOCTORThis is hopeless.

He gets back in the TARDIS and dematerializes. Secondslater, the Master walks by and pulls out his communicator.

MASTER

Master to Dalek Caan. Master toDalek Caan.

DALEK CAAN (V.O.)What is the meaning of this? Youwere told to contact us when youreached Gallifrey.

MASTERJust reminding you of ourterms. My place in the HighCouncil.

DALEK CAAN (V.O.)I am aware of your demands. Youwaste time by reminding me.

MASTERI am making a new demand, Caan. Iwish to have the galaxy splitequally between us after takingover.

DALEK CAAN (V.O.)Impossible! You will receive your

ten percent, and no more.

MASTERI demand it!

DALEK CAAN (V.O.)This is unacceptable. Any moreinsolence and the arrangement willbe revoked.

MASTERAnd then what? You know as well asI that you have no army left. Nomeans to take over a single planet,let alone the entire galaxy! Youare stuck alone on a single

spaceship, and only I can secureGallifrey for you.

DALEK CAAN (V.O.)Very well. Your terms areaccepted. Proceed with yourmission.

MASTERA wise decision, Caan. For yoursake. Master out.

INT.DALEK SHIP

CLOSE UP: DALEK CAAN

Dalek Caan switches off the communicator and turns around.

DALEK CAANSuccess. The Master believes thereis but one of us. Once he securesGallifrey, he will beexterminated. With the power ofthe Time Lords, even the Doctorcannot stop us! The Daleks shall

be victorious!

PULL BACK to reveal a massive room full of Daleks!

DALEKS

Victorious! Victorious! Victorious!

PULL BACK even farther to reveal a massive fleet of hundredsof Dalek ships!

INT.RESTAURANT

Donna and the Master eat dinner at a table together.

MASTERGood food, isn’t it?

DONNADelicious. Thank you so much.

They both smile at each other. Both smiles fade as they seethe Doctor enter the restaurant and sit by himself at atable across the room.

MASTERSay, isn’t that your friend...whatwas his name?

DONNADoctor.

As Donna looks over at the Doctor, the Master secretly leansdown and retrieves the TARDIS key from her purse. TheDoctor sees this and his eyes widen as he stares.

DONNA

Ugh, he’s staring. Of course hewould.

MASTERShall we leave, then?

DONNAYeah.

They get up and leave the restaurant. The Doctor follows ata distance.

EXT.STREET

Nobody else is near the two as they walk, except for theDoctor, who is still at a distance.

DONNAI’m so sorry. The Doctor is soclingy.

MASTERNo, Donna, I’m sorry.

DONNAIt’s not your fault.

MASTERI’m truly sorry.

The Master holds a handkerchief of chloroform over Donna’sface. He catches her fall and gently lays her down.

MASTERI’m so sorry.

The Master runs away. The Doctor runs over to Donna and

wakes her.

DOCTORDonna! Donna!

DONNAWha...what happened?

DOCTORWe’ve gotta get after him. He tookyour TARDIS key.

DONNA

Where’d you park it?

DOCTORBack at your house.

DONNAIt’s always about me, isn’t it.

She gets up and they run after the Master.

EXT.NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Master unlocks the TARDIS outside Donna’s house andheads inside. The Doctor and Donna run into the yard,yelling at him to stop. Wilfred comes out of the house.

WILFREDWhat’s going on?

DOCTORAnax got inside the TARDIS.

The Doctor, Donna, and Wilfred enter the TARDIS as it beginsto dematerialize.

INT.TARDIS

INT.TARDIS

The Doctor locks the TARDIS doors from the console.

DOCTORSo you did regenerate after all.

MASTERJust waited a bit for everyone tothink I’d died.

MASTERMaking you think you were was good

DONNADoctor, what are you talking about?

DOCTORSo. Even the Master can get a datebetter than I can. What aconfidence booster.

MASTEROh come now Doctor, it’s been that

way since the Academy.

DOCTOR(defensive)

Whaddya mean? I was the mostpopular guy there. I was the man.

MASTERYes, I’m sure everyone was veryimpressed with your 51% on yourproficiency test.

DOCTOR

51% is quite good!

MASTERThe lowest passing score. On yoursecond try.

DONNACould someone please explain whatis going on?

MASTER(to Donna and Wilfred)

Did you know the Doctor neverpassed the test to pilot a TARDIS?

WILFREDIs that why it’s always a policebox?

DONNA(suddenly forceful)

Alright, that’s enough! If you twowould quit throwing insults liketwo insecure pre-teens, I for onewould like to know what the hell isgoing on here!

DOCTOR

The Master. Renegade Time Lord,stole a TARDIS, not particularlypopular with the Gallifreyangovernment.

WILFREDYou just described yourself.

DOCTORDifference is, I like to think Ihelp people. He just helpshimself. Or tries to. Over andover again. I’d think it gets

rather monotonous.

MASTERTo each his own.

DONNAAnd this Master was Quenty?

DOCTORStop calling him that!

MASTERI don’t mind.

DONNAHe was my friend! Hell, he was mydate! And you’re telling me he’san evil Time Lord?

DOCTORI’m sorry, Donna, it’s thetruth! Now I’d like to know why

he’s in my TARDIS!

DONNA(to Master, like an angryparent)

WILFREDSo, if he has his own TARDIS, why’dhe take yours?

DOCTORBecause he’s a top-priority

criminal to the high-ups here. Ifhis TARDIS were detected onGallifrey, the Time Lords wouldmake short, short work of it.

WILFREDThen how come yours isfine? Aren’t you also--

DOCTORAs far as the Time Lords areconcerned, the Master is afelon. I just annoy them. Which

makes me wonder why exactly he’dwant to be on this planet.

MASTERIf you unlock that door I’llexplain everything.

DOCTORNo doubt yelling over your shoulderas you run away. No, I want to seeexactly where we are.

The Doctor checks the scanner.

DOCTORWell, it’s Gallifrey allright. But...why here?

DONNAWhat is it, Doctor?

DOCTORWe’re in Arcadia. Great big city,but I doubt the Master’s come herefor the nightlife. No, if I knowone thing about the Master it’sthat he won’t pass up anopportunity to get his grubby

little hands on some real power.

MASTERCan you blame me, Doctor?

WILFREDSo I take it Arcadia is thecapital, then.

DOCTORThat’s the thing. It’s not. Noreal power has ever been here,except...

DONNAExcept what?

DOCTORExcept during the Time War. TheCouncil relocated toArcadia. Safest place onGallifrey, they said.

MASTERThey were wrong.

DOCTORI was getting to that. Before theDaleks destroyed Arcadia theybesieged it, left the governmentsearching for a foothold. That’swhere we are now. The feds are allholed up in the Central Tower andat the moment have pretty much zipjurisdiction over theplanet. Meaning this is theperfect opportunity for a certainsomeone to take control.

MASTERPrecisely, Doctor. Though not forthe reasons you may think.

DOCTOROh, I suppose you’re here purely ona humanitarian mission?

MASTERAs a matter of fact, I am. You mayhave heard about the siege ofArcadia, Doctor, but you don’t knowwhat really happened.

DOCTOR

What do you mean?

MASTERThere are Gallifreyans and thenthere are Time Lords, Doctor. Youmay have ignored it until now, butthe Time War showed the differencebetween the two. The differencebetween the masters and theslaves, between the elites and theexpendables, and soon enough,between the living and thedead. Open that door, Doctor, and

consider who really killedGallifrey.

EXT.ARCADIA

The TARDIS door opens and the four step outside. The dustystreet is unkempt and broken. Impoverished Gallifreyans siton sidewalks and beg on corners. A group of people gathersaround the TARDIS. None of the four speak as they walk pastthe begging crowd and down the dusty streets ofArcadia. One could hardly guess this was once a great,powerful race.

DOCTORThis...this never happened.

MASTERLike I said, you don’t know whatreally happened.

WILFREDDoctor, what is he talking about?

DOCTORThe Time War had spread all acrossthe universe, all across timebefore the Daleks came toGallifrey. They attacked, and thatwas when I left. But before thatthey besieged the entire planet. Iwas always told the siege lastedabout a month, but...

MASTERThe Time Lords told youthat. Right now, you’re somewherelocked up tight in Central Towerwith no idea what’s going onoutside.

DOCTORThat was for our protection. Youknow that.

MASTERPerhaps. But it was also to hidethe truth from all but the highestup in the Council. Theybrainwashed you.

DOCTORThe Council would never keepsecrets like that from us.

DONNABut maybe the fact that they keptsecrets was itself kept a secret,so you wouldn’t secretly suspectthey were keeping secrets. Hm,sounded better in my head.

MASTERThat is precisely whathappened. Really Doctor, thisone’s cleverer than you.

DOCTORYou still haven’t said, how longwas the siege?

MASTERThe siege lasted for over ninetyyears.

DOCTORWhat did the Council do?

MASTER

Nothing. Like I said, they’re alllocked up in Central Tower rightnow.

DONNAYou mean they left all these peoplehelpless?

A beggar approaches the group.

The Doctor pulls out a Hypercube, puts it on the TARDISconsole, and begins using the controls.

DONNAWhat are you doing?

DOCTORSending an e-mail.

He finishes with the controls, and the Hypercube vanishes.

DOCTORNow he--the me in the Tower--isgoing to unlock the West door inexactly eight minutes.

DONNAWhy eight?

DOCTORBecause he likes that number. Nowit’ll only be open for a minute ortwo, so we’ll have to hurry.

WILFREDSo let me get thisstraight. You’re inside the Towerright now?

DOCTORA younger version of me. And he’sgonna let us in.

WILFREDHow do you know he’ll help?

The TARDIS materializes near the Central Tower. Donna andWilfred follow the Doctor and Master out, but the Doctorstops them.

DOCTORNot possible. Only Gallifreyansare allowed in the CentralTower. Two humans would give usaway immediately.

WILFREDWell what can we do?

DOCTOR

Wait in the TARDIS. We’ll be backsoon.

DONNA(sternly)

DOCTORFine. Come to think of it, I’vegot something special for you twoto do.

The Doctor, Wilfred, and Donna head back into theTARDIS. The Master waits impatiently outside. After a fewseconds, the Doctor comes back out.

DOCTORJust something to keep thembusy. So how are we going topersuade the Time Lords to change?

MASTERWe? Doctor, I just need you to get

me to the top floor. I have my ownmethods of persuasion.

INT.CENTRAL TOWER

The front door opens by itself and the Doctor and Masterstep inside. The huge entrance hall extends several storeyshigh with upper-level balconies lining the edges. There areno lights on.

MASTERI can’t see the other you. Too

dark in here.

DOCTORHe’s probably nowhere nearhere. Dangerous to know too muchabout one’s own future.

MASTERAll the Time Lords are on the topfloor. They’ve been up there fordecades with no idea how much timehas passed.

DOCTORAnd no one bothered to check theirwatch?

MASTERTime flows strangely in thisbuilding. There are warps andfolds everywhere here. That’s halfthe reason the building is sosecure--it has to be contained.

They observe parts of the building flickering in and out ofexistence as areas shift through time.

DOCTORAnd why we couldn’t land the TARDISin here.

The Doctor examines the black, smooth perimeter walls, whichnever change.

Wilfred watches as Donna repeatedly pushes the same buttonon the TARDIS console. She is cycling through a seeminglyendless series of radio stations, communications, and otheraudio transmissions.

DONNAOh, yeah, you two stay in theTARDIS while I take my arch-nemesisto do the important stuff!

WILFREDDonna, I’m sure the Doctor has areason for us to do this.

DONNAWhat, for scanning everytransmission on Earth from the daywe left?

WILFREDHe gave the TARDIS some instructionbefore he went. It must be doingsomething useful.

DONNA"Contact me when you find somethinginteresting" he said. What’s helooking for, a football game? Hisfavorite song?

Suddenly, Dalek voices and the Master’s voice can be heardfrom the scanner.

The Doctor’s cell phone begins ringing, but the pitch bendsand distorts. The Doctor answers.

MASTERWho is it?

The Doctor examines the phone.

DOCTORDunno. It dropped. Let mejust...it’s dead.

The Doctor continues following the Master upstairs, but moreuneasily now.

INT.TOWER TOP FLOOR

The two Time Lords reach the top floor, which is a meetingroom with displays all around the perimeter. Dozens of TimeLords sit in an ovular auditorium-like pit. The Window tothe Time Vortex is at the bottom of the pit, surrounded byTime Lords, who turn to look at the newcomers. As theDoctor and Master talk, they walk down in front of the

Window. The Master glances at the Time Vortex and clutcheshis head, turning away. He positions himself between theDoctor and the Window, facing toward the Doctor.

DOCTORYou were right.

MASTERI can’t look at the Time Vortex, soI’ll take your word for it.

INT.TARDIS

DONNAThis phone won’t work!

WILFREDAny other way to contact him?

DONNAThere’s one way.

INT.TOWER TOP FLOOR

MASTERDoctor, I never told you how sorryI am for leaving Donna on thestreet like I did. I’m so, sosorry.

The Doctor jumps forward and tries to wrestle the gun out ofthe Master’s hand. He fails, and the Master holds the gunto the Doctor’s head.

DOCTORYou’re joking.

MASTER

You know I’m not one to joke,Doctor.

DOCTORIn front of the entire HighCouncil?

MASTERThey’re tyrants, I’m abackstabber. I think we fit nicelytogether.

DOCTORIn light of things, I won’tdisagree there.

The TARDIS lurches through the Time Vortex.

INT.TARDIS

WILFREDAre you sure about this!

DONNANope!

INT.TOWER TOP FLOOR

MASTERSorry, Doctor, but this is how itmust be.

The Master whips around and shoots the Time Lord. In theconfusion, the Master glanced at the Time Vortex again. Fora brief moment, the sound of drums can be heard and theMaster’s eyes widen. The Doctor tries to take his gun butfails again. He is once again held at gunpoint.

MASTERCareful, Doctor. My finger mightjust slip.
