Sunday Programs - 9:45 am - 10:45 am
Childcare services are available at the POP Nursery during Sunday morning programs. Resurrection and the Afterlife in the New Testament St. Monica Room Central to our Christian faith is a belief in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Dr. Candida Moss, noted Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame, helps us understand the significance of that belief. No session on December 27. On January 3, we will discuss Gospels 3: Hell and Punishment. Facilitated by Sonya Phillips and Mike Brown.
Scripture in “Action” St. Elizabeth Room
Ever think about getting more out of church? Tired of rushing to run errands between masses? Take time for yourself - spiritually and physically! We discuss the Sunday readings including historical context, how they relate to us in present day, and seek ways to apply God’s message to our daily lives. No classes on December 20 & 27. Led by Tom & Elsbeth Germanson.
Religious Education “Silence is Golden”
Silence is the best way to remember the presence of God. When we live in the presence of God, we dance for joy. In order to
maintain this quiet place within us, we must protect it by practicing the virtue of silence. There is a time to speak and a time to remain silent. The virtue of silence lies in knowing the difference. Most of us talk too much. Often people in a group will never stop talking, not because anyone necessarily has anything important to say but because people feel that someone should be speaking. Most people are uncomfortable with silence. By practicing this self-restraint in speech and maintaining this quiet place within, we will always be aware of the presence of God. Then when we do speak, our words will break down the barriers between this world and the next. Words are the tools of the material world, while silence is the mystery of the spiritual realm. The person who is able to exist both in the supernatural realm and in the material realm by maintaining this quiet place within will bring the gifts of the supernatural world to this life. A love of silence reflects a love for those things that are eternal. Silence is the surest and safest way to find our true selves and the fulfillment and joy we desire. A life that honors silence makes a person wise and virtuous. (A Call to Joy, Matthew Kelly)
During this busy next few weeks of our Holiday celebrations, take some time to sit quietly with your children to reflect on how
blessed you truly are and the magic and wonder that this time of year brings to all. Words can sometimes get in the way, but remember the way that you make people feel during this Holiday Season.

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call At this time of year there is an abundance of opportunities to perform acts of stewardship. As we personally strive to
experience a conversion of the heart to live a stewardship way of life, let’s remember the many ways that we can give
thanks for the many gifts and talents that we have been given. Join a bible study group or set aside time to read the
Bible on a daily basis….that is stewardship. Take a meal to a sick friend or invite a neighbor to come to church…..that is
stewardship. The pillars of stewardship (Prayer, Formation, Service, Hospitality) can become the foundation for how we
live our lives looking forward to the new year.
Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.
Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19: 23-24)
Infancy Narrative
Both Matthew and Luke have given us a narrative in their Gospels about the infant Jesus. In Luke’s Gospel, Mary, upon hearing from Gabriel that she was with child says: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done according to your word.” (Lk 1:38) While giving thanks for all the many blessings of the Season, remember how Mary gave herself totally over to the word brought by Gabriel. When we are called, do we respond by giving ourselves over, even a little bit, to the wishes of the Lord?
May the blessings of the Christ Child bring us to a new commitment to serve the poor and disenfranchised, the lonely and
ill, our neighbors in need and any seeking assistance. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. Elsbeth and Tom Germanson
