WEDDINGS: Arrangement must be made with one of the priests at least six months before the date of the wedding. Confirm desired date at the church before making other arrangements. At least one of the engaged persons (or their parents) must be a registered and active parishioner of St. Priscilla. Weddings are not scheduled on Sunday.

BAPTISMS: English Baptisms will be held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 1:30 PM. Polish Baptisms will be held on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30 PM. Attendance at Baptismal Preparation class is mandatory. Register by calling the Rectory.

TRWAĆ W PANU

W Biblii często pojawia się obraz winnicy na oznaczenie narodu wybranego. W Ewangelii św. Jana temat winnicy został pogłębiony i włączony w kontekst Ostatniej Wieczerzy. Modlitewna zaduma nad tą przypowieścią pozwoli nam wydobyć z niej istotne przesłanie naszego Pana, zostawione Kościołowi wszystkich czasów.

Obraz winnego krzewu ukazuje nierozdzielną więź, jaka istnieje pomiędzy Chrystusem zmartwychwstałym a Jego wiernymi. Zostaliśmy wszczepieni w Jego mistyczne Ciało i żyjemy Jego życiem. Ojciec niebieski jak dobry ogrodnik troszczy się, aby to wszczepienie było owocne.

Podobnie jak winorośl zawdzięcza życie ogrodnikowi, który ją zasadził i pielęgnuje, tak też Chrystus wszystko otrzymuje od Ojca. Cała Jego egzystencja jest darem Ojca, cała ziemska działalność, słowa, czyny, objawiają miłość Ojca.

Ale treść obrazu winnicy nie ogranicza się do więzi pomiędzy Ojcem a Synem. Chrystus nigdy nie myślał o sobie samym. Winny krzew w przypowieści oznacza więc także cały Kościół, nierozdzielnie związany z Chrystusem Panem. Bo dzięki łączności z Bożym Synem Kościół staje się prawdziwym krzewem winnym. Staje się dziedzicem powołania dawnego Izraela. We wspólnocie wierzących spełniają się ostateczne wezwania dawnych proroków.

Wierni Kościoła mogą przynosić obfite owoce miłości Boga tylko w tej mierze, w jakiej potrafią naśladować swego Mistrza. A On okazał się posłuszny woli Ojca aż do śmierci. Obfity owoc doskonałego posłuszeństwa mogą przynieść tylko ci, którzy trwają w Chrystusie. Przecież to On powiedział te wiele znaczące słowa: „Bo beze Mnie nic uczynić nie możecie”.

Znakiem owego trwania będzie skuteczność modlitwy wierzących: „Jeżeli we Mnie trwać będziecie, a słowa Moje w was, poproście o cokolwiek chcecie, a to się wam spełni”. Uczniowie, którzy trwają prawdziwie w Chrystusie, przynoszą chwałę Ojcu poprzez doskonałe posłuszeństwo. Podobnie, jak Chrystus w Ogrójcu, umieją oni zjednoczyć swoją wolę z wolą Ojca. Dlatego też modlitwa wspólnoty Kościoła może być tak skuteczna i miła Bogu.

Skuteczność naszych próśb zanoszonych do Boga zależy właśnie od tego, na ile umiemy poddać się Jego woli. Dlatego najbardziej właściwym miejscem modlitwy Pańskiej jest Ofiara Mszy Świętej. Tutaj Chrystus uczy nas owego trwania w Bogu, od którego zależy owocność naszego życia. Komunia święta to skuteczne umocnienie tej żywotnej więzi z Panem, bez którego nic nie możemy uczynić.

Reflecting on God’s Word

Hearing Jesus’ words, “I am the vine, you are the branches,” sounds comforting at first. But then comes “and my Father is the vine grower” (John 15:1). The task of the vine grower is to prune and pruning can be tricky. The danger is cutting the main vine and not the branches, or cutting the branches that carry this year’s fruit and not the old ones from last year. But Jesus tells us that it is the Father who is out there with the pruning shears, not some careless hired hand. He is cutting away the dead wood, and cutting back the good branches so they bear even more fruit. Nevertheless, you might think, who wants to be pruned, even metaphorically? Who wants God snipping away? It’s hard to be pruned. There is a dying in that. But that is the ongoing story of Easter: dying and rising, pruning and bearing more fruit. God is there pruning us to bring out life, to make us life bearers and life givers. The Father continues snipping away, separating us from our selfishness, our self-centeredness, and all those things we hold on to that do not give us life: resentments, old grievances, desires for getting even. God is about life, committed to an abundance of life—not just life today but eternal life. That’s the divine plan. Are we part of it?

Jesus tells us: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). Which words of his are calling you to life? Ask him to help you to trust in the Father and surrender to what the Father wills for you.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Catholic Charities is the Church’s way of responding to Jesus’ resounding call “to love one another,” ensuring that help and hope are brought to those who are the least in our midst. On Mother’s Day, we will each have an opportunity to be a part of Catholic Charities’ Gospel mission to love and serve the poor through our donations to the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection. This year on Mother’s Day, we hear Jesus’ command to “love one another as I love you” (John 15:9–17). This Gospel reading is particularly fitting on Mother’s Day because it is through the unconditional love of our mothers and all the special women in our lives that we begin to understand God’s deep love for us, and how we are to share this love with our brothers and sisters in Christ. With 153 programs at more than 161 locations throughout Cook and Lake Counties, Catholic Charities serves poor and vulnerable people of all ages, races, religions, and economic backgrounds. Our gifts to the Mother’s Day Collection will help people overcome the challenges of poverty, hunger, homelessness, joblessness, abuse, and aging. Struggling families, vulnerable children, courageous veterans, and fixed-income seniors rely on Catholic Charities for food, clothing, shelter, and other services. Mother’s Day is the one day set aside for Catholic Charities to request the financial support of each of us in the parishes. Religious Education News

The last class for Religious Education was on April 25th. We have had a very good year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and the children for their cooperation during this past school year. Our attendance was at an all-time high this year, which tells us that both the parents and children know the value of religious education.

I would like to thank the following people: Antoinette Sanders, Sister Agnes Francis SND, Yolanda Gomez, Magdalena Kleszcz, Roman Harmata, Vanessa Aviles, Joanna Rydzewski, William Burns, Stacy Perez, and Anna Babbo for all their dedication and cooperation during the past year. We have an excellent group of people who have volunteered to give up their time to prepare for and come to class every week .

I would also like to thank Father Idzi and all the people on the staff of St. Priscilla Parish. They are always willing to help me in any way they can.

We hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you next year. I will be sending a letter out at the beginning of August to let you know about our program for the 2015-2016 school year. Remember to go to Mass and receive the sacraments during the summer months.

Catholic Charities Collection on Mother’s Day

After spending years in a Nepali refugee camp, the Jha family arrived here with nothing. Catholic Charities met them at the airport and took them in hand, helping them learn English, find work, enroll in school, and get medical care. They were among the 469 refugees we resettled last year.

Kolekta na Katolicką Organizację Charytatywną w Dzień Matki

Po wielu latach spędzonych w obozie dla uchodźców w Nepalu, rodzina Jha przybyła tutaj bez niczego. Katolicka Organizacja Charytatywna powitała ich na lotnisku i otoczyła opieką pomagając w nauce języka angielskiego, znalezieniu pracy, zapisaniu się do szkoły i korzystaniu z opieki zdrowotnej. Byli oni w grupie 469 przesiedleńców, którym w ubiegłym roku pomogliśmy się zadomowić w nowej ojczyźnie. W Dniu Matki złóż ofiarę na rzecz Katolickiej Organizacji Charytatywnej, pomagając w ten sposób przesiedleńcom budować nowe życie pełne nadziei.
