STEWARDSHIP

It has been recommended and approved by the

Finance Council of Saint James Parish, that the weekly

reporting of tithing as currently printed in the bulletin,

be consolidated into a monthly report to parishioners.

In the past some numbers have been delayed or not

totally understood. It was felt that a monthly reporting

would provide our parishioners with a better

collective update and accountability throughout the

year. Watch for the new reporting in our August 7

bulletin for July numbers. Thank you!

“Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had

finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to

pray just as John taught his disciples.’” Luke 11:1

Scriptures tell us Jesus prayed before every major action in

His life. We should strive to follow Jesus’ example by

always praying first. In that way, we can ensure we are

doing God’s work and not our own.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23

Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11

Gospel: Luke 12:13-21

As for Mary, she treasured all these words and

pondered them in her heart. –Lk 2:19

REFLECTION. The Rosary has conquered countless

enemies, and many pray it in front of abortion mills.

As we acknowledge Jesus as the fruit of Mary’s

womb, we stand to pray for our brothers and sisters in

the womb. As we honor the greatest mother, we pray

for all the frightened mothers.

PRAYER. Mary, our Mother, lead us to His victory

over all forms of death.

SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY JULY 24, 2016

Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia Sister Augusta, O.P. ~ Growing up in the Archdiocese of Denver, Sister Augusta followed the Lord’s invitation to consecrated religious life after two years of college and joyfully made her final

profession of vows in July 2013. As a sister she graduated from Aquinas College in Nashville, with a

degree in interdisciplinary studies and a license in elementary education. She has taught fifth-eighth grade in schools served by the Congregation in Oakridge and Nashville, TN, as well as in Kennesaw,

GA. She continues her formal theological studies in the summers through the Pontifical Faculty of the

Immaculate Conception, staffed by the Dominican Fathers, in Washington, D.C. In addition to a general love of the outdoors, she is delighted to be heading to the “Blue Grass” state as horses were

her “first love” as a child. Her patron saint is Saint Augustine of Hippo, who displays the powerful

working of God’s Grace not only by relinquishing a life of sin, but converting daily and ever more deeply to life in God. She looks forward with great joy to serving the Lord and His people at Saint James as the Director of

Formation/Education.

Sister Maria Clemens, O.P. ~ Sister proudly claims South Dakota as her home state, and acknowledges the great influence both dioceses there had on her decision to become a religious

sister. Before entering, Sister earned a degree in elementary and special education, which she

then put to use teaching at the Black Hills Children’s Home, a residential treatment facility for children who have suffered abuse. Sister placed these gifts at the service of the Lord and His

Church when she entered the convent during the Jubilee Year of 2000. Since joining the

Congregation, she has taught grades preK-eighth, serving in TN, VA, GA, and IL. She has also managed the St. Cecilia Motherhouse kitchen in Nashville, preparing three meals a day for the

200 sisters who reside there. Sister Maria Clemens received her Masters in Inclusive Education

from Kennesaw State University in GA, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville during the summer months. Outside of her passion for teaching and nurturing the growth of children, Sister

also enjoys gardening, completing crafts, and cooking. The word “Clemens” is Latin for “merciful.” Sister Maria Clemens

selected this name after having prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet in discernment of God’s Will for her vocation. She now

celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday (one week after Easter) as her feast day. With her dual role as first grade teacher at Saint James School and Coordinator of Children’s Religious Education, Sister is happy to assist children and parents alike in

their faith journeys.

Sister Marie Hannah, O.P. ~ Having lived all her life in Texas, Sister Marie Hannah set her heart firmly on the Lord and

in 1999 joined the Dominican Sisters in Nashville. There she continued her previous studies in

education, and graduated from Aquinas College with a degree in interdisciplinary studies and a license in elementary education. While teaching grades ranging from first to eighth in a number of

schools staffed by the Congregation, including those in MN, VA, MO, and TN, Sister earned her

Masters in Educational Leadership from Christian Brothers University in Memphis. Most recently she has served as Principal in Murfreesboro, TN. Sister also holds her Masters in Theological Studies

from Providence College. When not engaged in service to her community and school, Sister enjoys

hiking, working on her Spanish language acquisition, and reading rich spiritual works. While the name “Hannah” means “grace” in Hebrew, Sister first took this name in Confirmation after the Old

Testament woman of faith who famously proclaimed all the good God had done for her. Mary herself

echoes Hannah’s words in her “Magnificat,” spoken on the occasion of her visit to Elizabeth. For this

reason Sister celebrates the Visitation as her feast day. Sister Marie Hannah is delighted to be in E-town and to serve its families as Principal of Saint James Catholic School.
