Dress CodeStudents should wear:

• Shirts – Solid collared shirt (polo-style, turtleneck,

button-down or blouse)– 2nd -5th grd must have shirt tucked in at all

times!!• Pants, Shorts, Skirts:

– Color - Solid black, navy, or khaki (tan or beige).

– Belts - For 2nd grade and up, belts must be worn with any garment that has belt loops.

– knee length– No Jeans or Sweat Pants

• Shoes - Footwear – Tennis shoes– No Backless shoes (ie flip-flops)

Parent Involvement• During the school day

– Scheduled volunteer opportunities• Sign in with the front office and wear your VIP (Very

Involved Parent) badge!

– Teacher conferences - Schedule with teacher– Lunch

• Special guest tables are available in the cafeteria• Outside food can only be given to your child

– Classroom visitations/observations must be scheduled through your child’s teacher or office. Note:

All adults must check in at the office and have driver’s license to enter the

building!!

AM ProceduresBe on time - Very Important!!

• All students should be in the gym/cafe by 7:50am• Morning Assembly begins at 7:50 • Doors open at 7:15am• Car riders:

– One entrance – front of school NOT cafeteria– Please stay in your car, stay in the line, have

supplies and materials ready, drop and go • Students

– Read in the gym until morning assembly – 7:50am– Breakfast is served in café from 7:15-7:50 – No one will be allowed in the academic areas unless

there is a scheduled conference

PM Procedures• Car riders:

– Enter the south Kirby entrance– KN and 1st - follow red arrows

• Circle to the front with red name card visible in window

– 2nd-6th grade - follow blue arrows • Continue to back of the school with blue name card

visible in window– Stay in your car please so that our line can move quickly– Be ready to load and move

• Walkers and Bike riders – will be escorted to sidewalk and not allowed to run

across parking lot– will not be allowed to leave to the right of building– Please talk to your child about street safety

• Daycare students– will remain in cafeteria until bus arrives

Afternoon Dismissal

• PK, K, 1st, & sibling car riders = released at the front of the school by the gym

• 2nd-5th grade car riders = south end of building

• Walkers & Bikers – side entrance

• NO daily pickup from the office

Attendance

Tardy policy• Bell rings at 8:00 a.m.• Student will be directed to office for tardy slip• Excessive tardies are subject to attendance hearings

Attendance • Must have written documentation within 3 days of

absence to be excused - only 10 unexcused absences allowed by law within school year.

• Other excused absences are: Doctors, Religious Holidays, Court ordered

Early Pickup & Transportation Changes

Early Pickup– Students Picked up by 2:45 p.m.– Photo identification and student sign out

• What Does the Counselor do?• The counseling program is dedicated to:

• An ability test is given in three sections

• Must obtain 90th percentile or higher in any of the three sections (verbal, quantitative, nonverbal) for further testing

• Further testing includes an individual IQ test, TAKS scores, and any other standardized test scores available

GT Student Assessment

Committee• Reviews screening data/determines need

for further testing/decision-making body regarding placement in program

KINDERGARTEN SCREENING
