  • 5The company

In 1925 Timoteo Martini, father of the current chairman, founded Lampadari Martini, a small company producing professionally crafted lighting fixtures in Milan. The Martini Illuminazione Group comprises Martini S.p.A. (established in 1971 at Concordia sulla Secchia in the province of Modena), Sames S.p.A (purchased in 1995 and transferred from Moncalieri to the same manufacturing premises) and, since 2006, Sothis (a company specialising in the production of decorative STRASS glass lamps). In over eighty years of commercial activity, the group has become a leading organisation within the industry. The Martini group conducts in-depth research into product design and construction, and monitors the technical lighting performance of the resulting fixtures. This means a vast array of products can be used in a variety of ways, from indoor lighting for offices and workplaces, commercial environments, reception areas, cultural sites and museums to outdoor applications such as urban and street lighting. 170 people are employed at the Martini Illuminazione group manufacturing sites, which cover a total area of 21,500 square metres.

Through the consolidated experience of a large team of architects and lighting designers, Martini has been offering assistance in the design and development of lighting schemes for years, from the preliminary research phase right through

to the selection of individual products and technical lighting calculations. The requirements of each project are always carefully assessed, so as to guide the design and check the actual impact of the light on the environment, in order to adhere to the standards governing every indoor and outdoor installation. Martini group designers use technical lighting calculation software to offer solutions which enhance the various product and light source types, optimising performance and comfort and therefore saving energy in every architectural context (through the application of outdoor LED products, for example).A lighting technology design centre has recently been established in Milan and showrooms opened in Rome, Moscow and Saint Petersburg as part of a constantly-evolving programme.

All fixtures are designed for use in conjunction with the most up-to-date light sources: halogen, fluorescent, metal halide and sodium vapour, with particular emphasis on LED technology; they are also subjected to an ISO 9001 certified quality control process, during which they are tested and checked in our own in-house laboratory. Special attention is also given to making sure that current legislation is observed in all relevant countries, and that the technical and lighting features of the products are assessed and certified correctly.

  • 6The company

The products are designed using the most up-to-date modelling and three-dimensional prototyping software, in accordance with ISO EN 9001-2008 quality system procedures. A group of in-house technicians designs and develops reflectors using special software which checks data accuracy and helps to optimise performance in terms of the energy used; the calculated values are then verified in the test laboratory.

Departments are created in accordance with the latest logistics criteria, and structured so that components and semi-processed parts can be located quickly through barcode management. Specialist staff are given continuous training to guarantee reliability and quality during all processing phases. The processes are supported by semi-automated equipment, which helps to reduce lighting fixture manufacturing times. Furthermore, at the end of the line, full functional tests are conducted on the finished product.

    Bell / Twin 4

Bell, with its distinctive asymmetrical double truncated cone shape, is available in three sizes with various optics, meaning the fixtures can be used in town centres, along cycle lanes and in traditional street lighting schemes. The various versions are available with two types of projection, one asymmetrical for large spaces directly in front of the installation and one "street" type model with lateral projection. Bell 380 is recommended for pathways, pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes; Bell 460 and 570 for motorised traffic routes, motorway slip roads and roundabouts. The light projection features of the street reflector used in Bell 460 and 570 include excellent uniformity, wide spacing and a low level of glare, regardless of whether metal halide lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps are used. The flat transparent glass and the carefully designed optic guarantee excellent performance levels and light distribution in both street and asymmetrical versions.

    Alignment adjustment

Adjustable pole and wall-mounting system means the fixture can be positioned so that it is perfectly parallel to the ground. The photograph illustrates how the fixture can be rotated between 0 and + 20.

    Easy installation

The installation steps are simple and require only one operator. After installation, the cable is no longer visible.

Opening the ring by rotating it a turn.

Rotating the parabolic optic by 5; disconnecting the 2-pole electrical connector in order to remove the optic from the body.

Rotating the electrified plate by 5; disconnecting the 3-pole electrical connector in order to view the electrical components.

The closure ring can be removed in order to make maintenance procedures easier for the installer.

    Accessing the fixture

The glass support ring is hinged to the body of the fixture, offering simplified maintenance.

    Safety during maintenance

All versions are fitted with a mechanical disconnection switch which cuts the electricity supply off when the ring is opened.

    Installing the street fixture

The simplicity of the fixture and its accessories means the installation procedure can be carried out by just one operator. All components inside the end cap are fixed together using a steel cable and secured to the die-cast aluminium body.

    No tools required for maintenance

The special design of the fixture has made it possible to obtain a versatile and functional product which can be installed by any operator and which is suitable for use in complex overall arrangements (e.g. traffic-heavy roads, town centres, etc.). The option of unfastening the various components (see illustrations) without the use of tools makes it a unique product amongst street fixtures.

    Naxos / Twin 4

The Naxos range, with its distinctive asymmetrical truncated cone shape, consists of two different-sized versions featuring different optics, meaning the fixtures can be used in town centres and in traditional street lighting schemes. All versions of Naxos are available with two types of projection, one asymmetrical for large spaces directly in front of the installation and one "street" type model with lateral projection. The light projection features of the street reflector include excellent uniformity, wide spacing and a low level of glare, regardless of whether metal halide lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps are used. The flat transparent glass and the carefully designed optic guarantee excellent performance levels and light distribution in both street and asymmetrical versions.

Wall-mounted installation eliminates the need for a pole in applications where space is limited and guarantees continuity, whether street or asymmetrical fixtures are used.

Frontal projection for large spaces. Where this optic is used, fixtures can be installed around the perimeter of the area to be illuminated.Illumination class: S1

    Street optic

The street optic has been designed so as to concentrate most of the light it produces onto the road surface below, meaning that fewer installations are required and thus limiting maintenance and electricity costs. The optic system can be used to achieve high and uniform luminance on the road while limiting glare.Illumination class: ME3b

BodyThe body (available in two sizes: 460/570) and glass support ring are made using die-cast aluminium, while the pole-fixing system is made using cast aluminium and the arm is made using steel. The ring is recessed and locked in place using four captive screws which hold the ring against the gasket; it is also hinged using a concealed system in order to facilitate maintenance procedures.Tempered safety glass and aluminium reflector fixed to the body. All models are fitted with a disconnection switch in order to guaranteee maximum safety during maintenance procedures.

Light sourcesMetal halide and high-pressure sodium lamps from 70 W to 250 W, with E40 socket.

    EmissionsAsymmetrical and street optics.

Power supplyThe wiring is electromagnetic, with a capacitor and timed ignitor to protect the components when the lamps are exhausted and no longer work. The wiring assembly is installed on an extractable bracket fitted with quick connectors. The wide choice of lamps and wattage levels available guarantees maximum flexibility of application, in the lighting of both public and private areas.

AccessoriesPole attachment with 1, 2, 3 and 4 arms and adjustable attachment. Fixed and adjustable wall attachment.

    Sea

The Sea range, with its distinctive truncated cone shape and cylindrical top part, consists of two different-sized versions featuring different optics, meaning the fixtures can be used in town centres, along cycle lanes and in traditional street lighting schemes.Sea versions are available with three types of projection, one asymmetrical for large spaces directly in front of the installation, one sidewalk type and one "street" type model with lateral projection. Sea 380 is recommended for pathways, pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes; Sea 460 is recommended for motorised traffic routes, motorway slip roads, roundabouts and vehicle transit and loading/unloading areas near buildings. The light projection features of the street reflector used in Sea 460 include excellent uniformity, wide spacing and a low level of glare, regardless of whether metal halide lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps are used. The flat transparent glass and the carefully designed optic guarantee excellent performance levels and light distribution in both street and asymmetrical versions.

    Hono street fixture

    design: Mauro Saito

The Hono range, with its distinctive truncated cone shape, consists of two different-sized versions featuring different optics, meaning the fixtures can be used in town centres, along cycle lanes and in traditional street lighting schemes.Hono versions are available with three types of projection, one asymmetrical for large spaces directly in front of the installation, one sidewalk type and one "street" type model with lateral projection. Hono 380 is recommended for pathways, pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes; Hono 460 is recommended for motorised

traffic routes, motorway slip roads, roundabouts and vehicle transit and loading/unloading areas near buildings. The light projection features of the street reflector used in Hono 460 include excellent uniformity, wide spacing and a low level of glare, regardless of whether metal halide lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps are used. The flat transparent glass and the carefully designed optic guarantee excellent performance levels and light distribution in both street and asymmetrical versions.

    Sidewalk optic

The sidewalk optic is ideal for pedestrian walkways and cycle paths, and can be combined with the street optic without interfering with road traffic; the optic system also helps to save energy by increasing spacing distances.Illumination class: S1

    Asymmetrical optic

Frontal projection for large spaces. Where this optic is used, fixtures can be installed around the perimeter of the area to be illuminated.Illumination class: S2

    Street optic

The street optic has been designed so as to concentrate most of the light it produces onto the road surface below, meaning that fewer installations are required and thus limiting maintenance and electricity costs. The optic system can be used to achieve high and uniform luminance on the road while limiting glare.Illumination class: ME3c
