Newcomers Pot luck dinner: Friday 24th from 6:30pm at M Winter has officially arrived! In cold

days, not better than a nice and warm meal together! Come along and bring some nice food to share (the idea is to bring enough for you and your family plus some extra to share). Invite your friends and bring the family. This is a great time to cook something really nice that reminders your home country!!! Please let us know if you are coming. Phone 579-6410 or e-mail us.

If you have any other ideas for activities and get-togethers please let us know we can put together as many regular activity groups as you would like! (Such as a craft group, book or movie group, short trips, etc.)

Interpreters We are updating our interpreters list. If you are fluent in English and speak another language and is willing to help interpreting occasionally in situations like Court, Police and Hospital, please put your name down. Usually these organizations pay you when they need your service. Let us know if you are interested and your availability.

12 June: The Marlborough Parents Centre Parent & Child Expo 2011 - Have you got a young family? Why not swing by and see over 40 exhibitors, kids entertainment, expert talks and plenty of shopping opportunities at the Marlborough Convention Centre, 10am - 4pm. English Language Partners (ESOL): If you are new to Marlborough and need to improve your English, English Language Marlborough offers some options for migrants who are not permanent residents yet.

Mums and Tots group: Friday, from 10am to 12:00, at Plunket rooms (Henry Street). Price for 11 weeks: $22.00

Social English Class – Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Marlborough House (21 Henry Street). Price for 11 weeks: $22.00

We are an extensive nationwide hub of careers expertise and support. Careers New Zealand delivers career advice and support to people of all ages. Here are some of the topics that you might be interested. We can organise for you to meet individually or we can arrange a seminar when those who are interested can come and meet Gloria Ruru, the careers adviser. If you want contact Gloria on her email Gloria.ruru@careers.govt.nz Workshop 1: Skills, values assessment Why do I need to regularly review by skills base? Have my values changed? And why is that important for my work / study plan How do we know what values employers are looking for?

Workshop 2: CV's This session would concentrate on what goes into a CV and answering questions such as: What is different about CV's in New Zealand What are employers wanting to see in my CV, what information is important, how much information is too much. How do I make myself stand out How should I structure my CV in New Zealand What if I haven't really worked before Maybe if time, then going over the world of cover letters could be included. I also would consider doing some follow up work with people offering advice and guidance on individual CV's, once they have tried to use some of the tricks and strategies discussed

Workshop 2: The Job Market This session would look into accessing and creating opportunities It would cover topics such as: What happens in the New Zealand job market, how that differs to what I am familiar with: Where are jobs advertised? How do I be proactive in my job search? How can I create opportunities for myself?

Workshop 3: The dreaded interview This session would examine interview skills and technique. I imagine this to be built around role plays and mock interviews What are the differences between a good and bad job interview How do I prepare for an interview? What kind of questions am I likely to be asked How do I answer interview questions What sort of questions should I ask the employer What happens after the interview? What is an informational interview and when would I need to use one?

Interested in Art? The Marlborough Art Gallery has always great exhibitions. If you are a keen artist or want to start, there is an adult class running on Thursdays, 7-9pm and it costs $10.00 per class.
