Respect, Responsibility and Excellence
Dear School Community,
Welcome back to Marks Point Public School for
2020! I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable
summer break. This year will be a busy but
exciting year with many activities planned for our
students. As always, our core business is to help
your child succeed in their learning while
demonstrating the school’s core values of
‘Respect, Responsibility and Excellence’.
Our focus in classrooms and in the playground is
to develop these skills in a safe, nurturing
environment. We look forward to 2020 as we
work with families to push our students to reach
their highest potential.
Classes and Staffing 2020:
Our staffing has nearly been finalised for this year
and we appreciate the fact that the composite
classes can cause distress for some students.
However these classes also provide opportunities
to support students who need extra help or
extend other students who can be pushed to
reach their maximum potential. Classes and
teachers for 2020 are:
• K/JM - Mrs Janine Johns (Monday -
Thursday) and Ms Katie McDonnell on
Fridays.
• 1/2D - Mrs Sherrene Dawes.
• 2/3HG - Mrs Janet Gleeson.
• 3/4G - Mr Paul Gleeson.
• 5L - Mr Mark Littlewood.
• 5/6DY - Mrs Raquel Davis (Assistant
Principal) and Mrs Michelle Yeo:
Wednesdays and Fridays.
• Learning and Support Teacher (K - 2) - Mrs
Michelle Vallender: Monday - Wednesday.
• RFF, Science and High Potential classes
(Years 3 - 6) - Mrs Anna Gray: Monday -
Thursday).
• Learning and Support Teacher (3 - 6) - Mrs
Rhea Laverick: Wednesday - Friday.
• Library and High Potential classes - Miss
Katie McDonell: Monday - Thursday.
• School Learning and Support Officers – Mrs
Tina Main (full-time permanent) and we
are currently recruiting for another SLSO.
• School Administrative Staff - Miss Kelly
Wright (full-time), Mrs Angela Callen
(Monday and Tuesday) and Ms Tailah
Mostyn (Wednesday).
• General Assistant - Mr Gary Pollock
(Wednesdays and every second Friday).
• Student Wellbeing Support Officer (SWSO) -
Mrs Michelle Johnston: Mondays and
Fridays.
Educational Resource Fees:
Notes have been sent home for the Educational
Resource Fee for students. This fee covers
relevant textbooks and resources your child will
need throughout the year. Payment can be
made online, through our school website or at
the school office. If families require assistance
with any fees please see the office to discuss
financial options.
Active Kids and Creative Kids Program:
The NSW Government is helping kids get active
with the new Active Kids program. Parents,
guardians and carers can apply for a voucher
valued up to $100 per calendar year for each
student enrolled in school. The voucher may be
used with a registered activity provider for
registration, participation and membership costs
for recreation activities. The voucher can be
used at any time during the calendar year it
was issued. Contact Service NSW on 13 77 88.
Student Supervision:
Please note that the playground is not
supervised until 8.30am each morning. We are
currently experiencing students riding their bikes
and scooters to school earlier than 8.30 am and
while we like their enthusiasm for school, for your
child’s safety, please do not send your child to
school until after the first bell at 8.30 am.
Kindest regards.

Safely Riding Bikes and Scooters to School:
Students travelling to and from school, as well as
those at school need to feel and be safe. The
Department of Education and NSW Roads and
Maritime Services recommend that children
under 10 years of age DO NOT ride bicycles to
and from school unless accompanied by an
adult. We have noticed some students are not
wearing a helmet which is incredibly dangerous
and against the law.
Students under 10 years of age have not yet
developed the depth perception needed to
determine the distance of an approaching car
which could lead to tragic accidents. Students
under 12 years of age can ride legally on the
footpath.
We encourage parents to follow these rules for
the safety of their children. Bikes and scooters
should not be ridden in the school grounds for
the safety of all students and visitors to the
school.
Kindergarten 2020:
On Monday we welcomed our new students
and their families to Marks Point Public School.
Thank you to our older students who have
volunteered to be the Kindergarten ‘buddies’
while they are settling in to school routines.
Medication at school:
When a medical practitioner has prescribed
medication that must be administered during
the school day, parents/carers must:
notify the school
provide up to date information as required
supply the medication and any
'consumables' necessary for its
administration in a timely way.
The administration of such medication forms
part of the department's common law duty of
care to take reasonable steps to keep students
safe while they attend school.
Parents/carers of children who require
prescribed medication to be administered at
school must complete a written request (ask for
this at the office) and students must not carry
medications.
House Captains 2020:
The Year 5 and 6 students also voted in their
house captains for 2020. Congratulations to:
Hannah and Mackenzi - Albatross, Mariah and
Zach - Eagles, Aleah and Caleb - Gulls, Ayla
and Hashit - Swans (shown below).

MARKS POINT PUBLIC SCHOOL P & C ASSOCIATION Notice of AGM and General P & C Meetings
Notice is given that the Annual General Meeting of the P & C Association will be held at 5.00pm on Thursday 13 February 2020 in the School Staff Room. Nominations for Executive Positions are only open to financial members of the P & C Association. To become a financial member of the P & C, you must pay a $1 membership fee (annual fee). You will then be able to vote on motions throughout the year. Once a financial member, it is not necessary to attend all meetings but in order to vote, you must be present. You can join the P & C at any time dur-ing the year. Nomination of Executive Positions will be taken at the AGM and voted upon if necessary. The first General Meeting of the P & C will follow the AGM and the P & C would like to encourage as many parents, current and new, to come along and see what the P & C is all about. Under the guid-ance of the Executive Members and with a strong, hardworking team of volunteers, the P & C is look-ing forward to doing many wonderful things for the children at Marks Point Public School in 2020. However, the P & C cannot continue to do this without support from the parent body of the school, so please consider joining up so we have a wide range of ideas and viewpoints. General Meetings are held in the school staff room every third Thursday of the month at 5.00pm. Once a financial member, you are not obligated to attend all meetings. P & C membership is open to any adult who wants to contribute to the school, including parents and extended family members, teachers and staff members, and any interested community members. You can join the P & C at any meeting throughout the year. There is no pressure on any parent in the group to do anything more than they wish. The P & C under-stands how busy parents are today and therefore, joining the P & C doesn’t mean you will be given a job to do or be expected to participate in any fundraising or P & C events. If you want to just come and see what it’s all about, to keep up to date with information from the NSW Department of Educa-tion and the Principal who gives a report each month, then we would love to see you on Thursday 13 Feb. If you have any questions about the P & C, please contact current Office Bearers: Tina Mahony on 0412 008 308, Jenny Galvin on 0403 944 793 or Gabrielle Darcy on 0421 842 897.
