Social Media Marketing
• Marketing done by social interactions– Likes– Shares– Comments
• FREE! (suppose to be)
What is Social Media?
• Facebook Page: Allows you to see reports, create admins, put Facebook apps, etc.
• Facebook Profile: Your PERSONAL Facebook page Not able to do needed things for marketing
• Posts: The content you put on your page• Likes: Quickly showing your approval• Shares: Sharing your post• Comments: Interaction
Terms
• Consistent posting schedule• Post: interesting things• Make your audience WANT to come to your
page and interact• Golden Rule: Post with a purpose! What do
you want to accomplish? What do you have to offer your audience?
Overall Strategies
• What you catch depends on what bait you use.
• Your audience will depend on what you post. Make sure you are posting properly
Fishing Analogy
• Use different types of posts (images, videos, texting)
• Post relevant to your audience • Don’t post same things on multiple social
media sites, at least not at the same time• Figure out best time for posting
Posting Rules
I love Cats!
Posting Rules Continue...
• Be controversial if appropriate • ALWAYS BE CREATIVE• Be funny (not all the time)• Unique• Keep with your brand• Overall: GET PEOPLE TALKING
• Post slowly at first• Find Right Name• Find most popular times with target audience• Boosting– Facebook Boosts– Like4like.org– Make Friends and share
General Beginner Rules
• Requires more motivation/call for action• Post dynamic type videos– Informational– 2D Animations– Short Films, etc.
• Very effective for most type of organizations
Youtube (Video Marketing)
• Who has a FB profile? • Pages– Public figures, bands,
businesses
“I looked them up on FaceBook and I couldn’t find them, they don’t exist.”
Posts• What to post:
– Photos – Status
• Updates, funny stories, lyrics, etc
– Videos (from your YouTube!) – Links to interesting/relevant blogs/articles (your own blog, hopefully)
• When to post: – When the most people will be online to see it! (evenings and weekends,
mostly) – REGULARLY! – Scheduled posts – Making other people administrators
• Boosting: – If you have money... – Since most of us don’t: like4like.org, or just focus on making it really good.
(Which you should anyway...)
Other Ways to Promote
• If you post interesting and relevant things, people will want to see your stuff.
• Use your own profile, let people know you have a page, and what the page can give them (encouragement, inspiring music, etc)
• Find organizations/pages/groups who are interested in you or interested in the same things.
• Pages with the most likes: people search for a celebrity/organization, find their official page, and like it because they want to stay updated.
• Meant as a news feed, where you can, in seconds, figure out what’s going on in the world and join the discussion.
• Limited to 140 characters (every space/letter/punctuation is a character).
• Meant for anyone: individuals, businesses, churches, etc. (no special pages/groups for businesses)
• FB promotional rules apply: follow/find others who are interested in you or interested in the same things as you. Be active, post quality, and you’ll find an audience.
• (This assumes you have something to say.)
• I love WordPress! • Free • Make one if you don’t have a website (if you do have
a website, there might be a blogging feature where you can write/post/update and sell your stuff.
• Social media integration– Good place to put EVERYTHING, when you post a new
update, put it as a status update on FB. – Put in YouTube videos – Twitter sidebars...
