Christmas Celebration Students will be allowed to wear a Christmas Shirt, Ugly Christmas Sweater, or a red/green shirt on Thursday, December 19th. Students may wear jeans or sweats, and if they would like, they can wear boots. Volunteers Needed St. Anthony School’s Open House for prospective families will be here before we know it! Open House is scheduled for Sunday, February 2nd from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. We are looking for volunteers who will help in the preparation for this event and also for people who want to help the day of Open House. If you would be interested in helping out, please email Stephany Tucker at [email protected] or contact the school office at 812-282-2144. Christmas Program This year our Christmas Program will be for those students in grades K-4. The Christmas Program will be on December 12th at 7:00 PM and will have a dress rehearsal open to the public at 1:30 PM on that day. Celebration of St. Nick’s Day St Nicholas' Day is an observance of European origin that is celebrated in some American communities on December 6th. The legendary figure of St. Nicholas is derived from Nicholas of Myra who officiated as a bishop in 4th century Greece. During his lifetime he developed a reputation for gift-giving by putting coins into other people's shoes, which accounts for many of today's Christmas traditions that involve leaving gifts in shoes or boots. Some Europeans who immigrated to the United States brought with them beliefs, customs and practices associated with St Nicholas' Day. Children in families who celebrate St Nicholas' Day receive treats - including candy, cookies, small toys, or fruit - in stockings, socks, shoes or bags on December 6th. Some churches have special services dedicated to the feast of St Nicholas on this day. Here is a link if you would like to find out more about St. Nicholas http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/book-story-saint-nicholas/ SCRIP – A New Way to Shop Scrip is a way St. Anthony School can earn money on the purchases you already make. All you have to do is order gift cards from ShopWithScrip to places you already shop. You shop like usual, and St. Anthony School earns money. It's that easy! Not only that, there's no waiting for a physical gift card because an eGiftcard can be sent directly to your email address! However, if you still want a physical gift card that is still an option. An order form will be sent home in next week's Bear Facts. You can purchase gift cards as gifts, or you can purchase them for yourself, to places you normally spend money! All of this will help our school!

Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance We will be announcing Second Quarter Honor Roll along with Perfect Attendance at the Mass on Wednesday, January 8th. Weather Reminder

It is that time of year again, the time for inclement weather. Remember that St. Anthony School is on its own in making the decision to close. We know that many of our students come from different locations and outlying areas, and we may still be in school when roads in your area may not be safe. While safety is our utmost concern, it is your ultimate decision if your child comes to school on a day when there is inclement weather. Please remember that our school closing will only be posted on WDRB Fox TV, St. Anthony Website, SAS Parent Facebook Page, or you can call the school. Also remember you can sign up for WDRB Snow Fox Alerts.

Christmas Program

What: “The Story of Christmas”

When: December 12, 2019 at 7:00 PM

Who: K-4 Grades

Where: St. Anthony Church

*** There will be Dress Rehearsal at 1:30 PM Thursday Afternoon. Anyone is welcome to

attend the Dress Rehearsal. ***

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to work with your children for this year’s Christmas Program. Each

grade will have a different role in the performance and I have a list below of what each child is

to wear. I hope that your family will come and enjoy the sounds of Christmas. We hope our

program will put you in the Christmas spirit.

Your child is expected to arrive at 6:40 PM in the social hall. Attire is suggested as

follows:

Kindergarten and 1st Grade - We have the costumes at school; so your child will need to wear

white top and black tights/leggings/pants.

Grades 2nd

– 4th

- Wear black bottoms and a Festive/Fun/Ugly Christmas Sweater of your

choice. You may wear hair ribbon/scarf/ornaments to add to your outfits. Please keep it to a

minimum so not to be distracting or noisy.

The kindergarten class will be acting out the Nativity; teachers will send home their specific

role. 1st graders will narrate the Nativity; this will be practiced at school.

If there are any questions regarding anything with the Christmas Program, please contact Ms.

Alberts via email at:
