KNIGHTS TRAVEL TO ANN ARBOR The reigning NAIA national champion Knights head to Huron High School and Riverbank Stadium to take on Concordia University for the third time in school history. The last time MU traveled to Ann Arbor was in 2011 and the Knights cruised to a 77-3 victory over the Car- dinals in their first year of varsity competition. Saturday’s game will air LIVE on the Knights Football Radio Network beginning at 12:45 p.m. with Dr. Geoff Sherman (p-b-p) and Ian Garner (color) calling the action. SCOUTING CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY The Cardinals come into this game with a 1-7 overall record and an 0-4 mark in the MSFA Mideast League. CUAA earned its first-ever win over Alfred State (NY) just a few weeks ago. However, Saint Francis (Ind.) brought CUAA down 54-0 last weekend. The Cards are 1-27 all-time in just their third year of competition. CUAA is led on offense by quarterback Tyler Steele who has completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,120 yards and six touchdowns. Caled Mims leads the running game with 148 yards, but CUAA has not scored a rushing touchdown in 2013. Corey Turner leads CUAA in receiving with 35 catches for 405 yards and two touchdowns. Other than the 35-21 win over Alfred State, CUAA has scored just 29 points in its seven other games this season. Defensively, Takari Johnson leads CUAA and the MSFA with 94.5 tackles. He also has 17.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks this season. Lawrence Harris has intercepted three passes on the year for CUAA. The Cards’ head coach is Lonnie Pries and he is the third coach in three years for CUAA. THE SERIES HISTORY: MU IS 2-0 VERSUS CUAA The Knights have run into CUAA twice in their his- tory. WILHITE EARNS LEAGUE WEEKLY HONOR Sophomore Jamar Wilhite was named the MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week after an eight-tackle, five tackle for loss and three sack performance against Taylor. He is the 40th Knight to earn a weekly honor and is the 19th defensive player to earn the honor in the seven seasons of MU football. Demetri Oliver earned the same honor last year and was the last to earn the honor for the Knights. LAST TIME OUT: KNIGHTS DEFEAT TAYLOR IN 2OT The Knights had to go to double overtime, but defeated Tay- lor on Senior Day, 26-19, last weekend. An anemic offensive attack in the first half was countered by a defense that held the Trojans in check. The score was 6-2 at the half before TU took a 9-6 lead in the third. TU went up 16-6 in the fourth before MU scored 10 points to tie it and send it to overtime. After trading field goals, MU scored a touchdown in the sec- ond OT and stopped TU’s offense to seal the win. Robert Gibson scored the game-winning TD, Tevin Lake scored a TD and Joey Hecklinski hit Taylor Summa for a score as well. LAKE CONTINUES DOMINANCE Junior Tevin Lake has spent his entire Marian ca- reer setting records. He has amassed a school re- cord 20 100-yard rushing performances and is al- ready the career leader in rushing yards, touchdowns and rushing touchdowns. He has been responsible for 51 touchdowns in his career, has 3,802 career rushing yards and also holds the single-season re- cord for rushing yards with 1,594. He currently holds eight career records and 10 single-season records. Lake currently has amassed 950 yards rushing through nine games and has seven rushing scores. dustin craig named to all-time msfa teamAs part of the 20th anniversary celebtration of

the Mid-States Football Association, former MU standout Dustin Craig was named to the MSFA All-Time Mideast League Team. The selections are from 16 of the 24 schools that have been a part of the MSFA with only four charter members remain-ing as part of the association.Craig was selected after he earned the 2011

MSFA Mideast League Player of the Year honors and led the Knights to two NAIA FCS appearances. He was a NAIA national player of the week in 2011 and a two-time All-MSFA MEL first team pick. He finished his career with 17 interceptions to lead the short history of the MU program.

mu picked to finish second in msfa melThe two-time defending MSFA Mideast League

and reigning national champion Knights were picked to finish second in the MSFA Mideast League in the coaches preseason poll.

MU finished with 45 points and three first-place votes, while Saint Francis (Ind.) earned 46 points and four first-place votes. St. Francis (Ill.) (31 pts) finished third, Siena Heights (Mich.) (24 pts) finished fourth, while Robert Morris (23 pts) and Taylor (20 pts) were voted fifth and sixth. Concordia (Mich.) (7 pts) was picked to finish last in the league.

On the Midwest side, 2011 national champion Saint Xavier (Ill.) was the consensus pick as the top team with seven first-place votes and 49 points. St. Ambrose (Iowa) was voted runner-up, while William Penn (Iowa) and Grand View (Iowa) round out the top four in the league.

SXU, USF and Marian earned a three-way split of the MEL title last season, while St. Ambrose, Wil-liam Penn and Grand View were tri-champs in the Midwest last season.

The Knights won the 2011 league title outright with a 5-0 season and with the win over USF last season earned a three-way split with USF and SXU at 4-1 to win its second straight title.

In 2012, MU saw 21,179 fans come through the gates for six home games for an all-time high average of 3,530 per game. The second and third-highest at-tended games came last season.The single-game attendance record for Marian

On January 24, 2013, Mark Henninger, a 39-year-old Indianapolis native, was named the second head coach in Marian University football history and inher-its a program that won the 2012 NAIA Football Nation-al Championship.Henninger spent the last

five seasons as head foot-ball coach at North Carolina

Wesleyan College (NCWC), a NCAA Division III institu-tion, in Rocky Mount, N.C.Henninger takes the reins of a Marian University pro-

gram that began competition in 2007 and won the institution’s first-ever NAIA national championship and 21st overall national title with a 30-27 overtime vic-tory over Morningside College (Iowa) on December 13, 2012. The Knights have amassed a 48-23 record, three NAIA Football Championship Series appear-ances, two Mid-States Football Association Mideast League championships, and the 2012 NAIA Football National Championship in just six years.He was instrumental in the creation of the football

program at NCWC, which began competing in 2004 and had the second-highest NCAA Division III winning percentage from 2004 through 2010.In his five seasons as a head coach, Coach Henninger

amassed a 26-25 career record, including a 22-13 record in the USA South Conference. During his nine years with the program, NCWC went 48-40 and had a 40-22 conference record. In his second season as head coach, he earned USA South Conference Coach of the Year honors after leading the Battling Bishops to a perfect 7-0 mark and their second-ever conference championship. He was also a part of the program’s first-ever conference title in 2007 as defensive coor-dinator. The 2007 season saw the Bishops earn an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in program history; it was also the first time a No. 8 seed upset a No. 1 seed when NCWC defeated Washington and Jefferson in the first round.Henninger guided four NCWC players to NCAA Di-

vision III All-America honors. Thirty of his student-ath-letes were honored as All-USA South Conference First Team selections. He also guided four of his players to

ESPN CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors.Prior to his arrival at NCWC, Henninger served as an

assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Witten-berg University from 2000-2003. During his time at the winningest program in NCAA Division III history, the Tigers went 41-7, won two NCAC conference cham-pionships, and earned three NCAA Division III playoff appearances.He spent one season as a graduate assistant at

Wartburg College (1999-2000) in Waverly, Iowa where he coached the secondary. Wartburg earned the conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs with a 10-1 record.Henninger also coached overseas. He spent one year

as an assistant coach with the Hamburg Blue Devils Football Club in Germany in 1998. Hamburg won the Euro Bowl with a record of 15-3-1 and was the Ger-man National Runners-up. He also spent two years as a graduate assistant at Millikin University from 1996-1998.Henninger is a 1992 graduate of Roncalli High

School and graduated from Wittenberg University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management in 1996. As a defensive back at Wittenberg University, Henninger earned four varsity letters and was part of a team that went 35-5-1 in his four years.
