Pastor Rob

This month marks one of those milestone’s for my granddaughter, Lily. She begins Kindergarten - official school classes and real time school. This makes me reflect on my first day of Kindergarten or at least the parts I remember (“it was a long time ago”). I remember how everything looked so clean, shiny and brand new. The Crayola's were unbroken, wrappers intact and none missing from their box. The pencils were sharpened, their eraser was new, unused and pink with no holes drilled into it yet and no tips were chewed on. This was also true of the paste bottle (yes, this was before they had glue sticks). My desk for the year had a cleaned and polished top with my very own, handmade name taped on it. My name tag was perfect, no tears, no tape coming off, no pencil, Crayola, or pen marks, yet. I remember the whole room and the teacher being bright, clean, neat and new looking. I would suggest and say that with September and the Fall season, there comes the START, the NEW, the BEGINNING to school classes, football season, fall harvest and season at MWPC. Though summer is ending (it officially ends September 23rd), the calendar says, “NEW month, NEW season, NEW schedule of opportunities”. It seems that for some of us that our own life’s journeys are at the end of summer and what awaits is the fall and winter seasons of our lives. Those seasons sometimes are seen as ends, finished and resigned to no new opportunities in one’s life. The same can happen for a church. It seems that the church’s journey is in the fall/winter season and the feeling is that there is not much the church can do for God’s kingdom or an absence of energy/movement. We might see ourselves as “our best days are behind us” or “what new mission/ministry can the church do?”. Since last fall, conversation, prayer, dialogue and discerning has been happening regarding a NEW emphasis and opportunity of mission and ministry at MWPC. The leadership has adopted plans which were shared with the MWPC family last June to move ahead with our Family and Children Ministry and the hiring of a Family and Children Ministry Coordinator. This person is being sought at this very moment and the hope is to have this part-time coordinator in place by October, 2015. The Coordinator’s ministry will be to develop, organize and lead a mid-week after-school “club”, lead a Sunday morning children’s class, host a monthly child-parent(s) dinner and assist the MWPC family to learn, welcome and love NEW children and NEW families into our fellowship and into God’s kingdom. The fall season at MWPC brings with it NEW beginnings and a start with children and their families from the surrounding neighborhood. Praise the Lord!

Peace,

Pastor Rob

Christian Education and Choir Rehearsal

~ Fall Schedule ~

Christian Education classes kick off Sunday, September 13th, following the Sunday

morning Worship Service. The subject for the classes will be a year long study of

the four gospels, beginning with the Book of Matthew. Contact Steve Kennedy with

questions.

The Women’s Bible Study will resume meeting on Thursday mornings starting on

September, 17th at 10:00 a.m. and will be studying a book by Dr. Paul Brand and

Phillip Yancey entitled “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made”.

Have you been thinking about how much fun it would be to sing in the choir and

make a joyful noise? Now’s your chance! Choir rehearsals are scheduled to resume

on Thursday, September 10th at 7:00 P.M. We’d love to have you be a part of the

MWPC choir. Contact Nancy Blaisdell for further information.
