Mis queridos hermanos y hermanas, Dios es nuestro refugio y fuerza... en tiempos difíciles.
Aunque pase por quebradas oscuras, no temo ningún mal, porque tú estás conmigo con tu vara y tu bastón, y al verlas voy sin miedo. Sal 23:4
Este es en verdad un tiempo de confusión. Es un tiempo muy difícil para cada persona en todo el planeta. Es la primera vez que el mundo se ve amenazado por algo más que guerras, desastres naturales y la amenaza de una guerra nuclear. Se dice que la COVID-19 es una "pandemia" porque los expertos creen que es una plaga de proporciones épicas. Así que la preocupación, la ansiedad y la paranoia son reales. Pero por muy reales que sean estas preocupaciones, hay otra realidad más grande que todos nuestros problemas juntos - nuestro amoroso y misericordioso Dios. "Yo soy el buen pastor", dice Jesús. "El buen pastor da su vida por las ovejas" (Jn 10:11). Es un tiempo como este en el que el poder y la bondad de Dios brilla a través de él. Pero su poder y su bondad sólo pueden manifestarse si cambiamos nuestros modos, nos acercamos a Él y pedimos por su misericordia. En otras palabras, este tiempo de desesperación nos invita a reconocer que "Nuestro auxilio está en el nombre del Señor, que hizo el cielos y la tierra" (Sal 124:8). Así que "No tengas miedo". Este es un momento para crecer en su fe. Empiecen un tiempo de oración familiar diaria. Ahora que todos están en casa por los encierros, reúne a tu familia por la mañana o por la tarde para rezar y compartir la Biblia. Rezad juntos los Salmos de protección. Los Salmos de protección son el 91 y el 23. Sigue este formato: lee un pasaje de la Biblia (utilizando las lecturas de la misa diaria - ve a https://bible.usccb.org/es y haz clic en la fecha del día donde dice LECTURAS DIARIAS), comparte el mensaje juntos, toma turnos para orar por diferentes intenciones y luego termina rezando los Salmos 91 y 23 juntos. Recuerden, ¡esto también pasará! Es un momento difícil, pero tenemos la esperanza de que con la ayuda de Dios, lo superaremos. Seguiré rezando por ti y por su familia. Por favor, mantenga a los sacerdotes y a nuestra comunidad parroquial en sus oraciones.
My Dear Brothers and Sisters, God is our refuge and strength… in times of trouble.
For though I should walk in the valley of the shadow of death, no evil would I fear, for you are with me. Your crook and your staff will give me comfort. Ps 23:4
This is indeed a time of trouble. It is a very difficult time for every person across the planet. This is the first time the world is threatened by something other than wars, natural disasters and the threat of a nuclear war. The COVID-19 is said to be a ‘pandemic’ because experts believe that it is a plague of an epic proportion. So the preoccupation, anxiety and paranoia are real. But as real as these concerns are, there is another reality bigger than all our problems put together – our loving and merciful God. “I am the good shepherd”, says Jesus. “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (Jn 10:11). It is a time such as this that God’s power and goodness shines through. But his power and goodness can only manifest if we change our ways, turn to Him and ask for His mercy. In other words, this time of helplessness invites us to acknowledge that, “Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (Ps 124:8). So “Do not be afraid.” This is a time to grow in your faith. Begin a daily family prayer time. Now that everyone is at home because of the shutdowns, bring your family together in the morning or in the evening for prayer and Bible sharing. Pray the Psalms of protection together. The Psalms of protection are Ps 91 and Ps 23. Follow this format: read a passage of the Bible (use the daily Mass readings – go to http://usccb.org and click on the day’s date where it says DAILY READINGS), share the message together, take turns in praying for different intentions and then finish by praying Psalms 91 and 23 together. Remember, this too shall pass away! It is a challenging time, but we are hopeful that with the help of God, we shall overcome. I will continue to pray for you and your family. Please, keep the priests and our parish community in your prayers.

I have noticed something very interesting in the past few years that has just been so odd to me. We live at the height of free speech where everyone has a voice and a platform through social media and it can be accessed instantaneously anywhere around the world. In fact, people use this so much that there are constantly being fights and arguments over accounts being suspended or content being removed even though we have the right to free speech. So with all that said, how come people aren’t using this ability to share about faith? If you compare the amount of content about faith versus the content that is non faith related, the amount of faith content is tiny in comparison. We need to be like the communion of saints and be a witness of faith in our lives. There are so many opportunities both personal and on a larger scale for us to share our faith yet we don’t do anything about it. This weekend we are talking with our year 2 teen about the communion of saints, being a witness of faith, and talking about a few modern day saints to show that saints are an old thing but there are saints in our time as well. He notado algo muy interesante en los últimos años que me ha resultado muy extraño. Vivimos en el punto álgido de la libertad de expresión, donde todo el mundo tiene una voz y una plataforma a través de las redes sociales y se puede acceder a ella instantáneamente en cualquier parte del mundo. De hecho, la gente lo utiliza tanto que constantemente se producen peleas y discusiones por la suspensión de cuentas o la eliminación de contenidos, aunque tengamos derecho a la libertad de expresión. Así que, dicho esto, ¿cómo es que la gente no está utilizando esta capacidad para compartir sobre la fe? Si comparamos la cantidad de contenido sobre la fe con el contenido no relacionado con la fe, la cantidad de contenido sobre la fe es mínima en comparación. Tenemos que ser como la comunión de los santos y ser testigos de la fe en nuestras vidas. Parents everywhere are struggling to be parents, teachers, and friends for their children in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are likely and understandably relying on screens to help them through these seemingly endless days. Many children are also online for school, which only increases their screen exposure. The American Pediatric Association warns parents that too much screen time can lead to sleep problems, lower grades, mood and weight problems, and can keep children from learning how to relax and have fun without a screen present. Try to make time for reading, playing games, and other screen-free activities that will help break the cycle of screen addiction and talk to your children’s teachers about how screen time for school can be managed.
